The survey is not the problem. In fact, I was very surprised to find out that Fortnite even does that sort of thing for new skins as it's a very neat community thing to do by giving players some agency on what skins appeal to people the most. Taking it away, while it doesn't actively harm anything, just makes the environment feel sterile(?). It would be a loss to the community in a sense. Not to dunk on veteran players as I only started playing since a little after Ch5 dropped, but it is very short sighted and weird to even suggest that the surveys are the issue. The real issue is whoever is in charge of translating these concepts into 3D models. I understand they all have to follow a similar rigging for the game but Aphrodite in particular is a very good example of oversimplifying. Her changes were essentially taking things away that likely wouldn't have affected anything from a gameplay perspective. From there, we can ask why they felt it was necessary to remove details. The changes on her are small but have more than necessary. Even if we want to talk about hitboxes for other skins, the Giant Chicken from Family Guy is a thing so that excuse is out. Ultimately, I genuinely believe this is a result of laziness. I don't doubt that maybe some of the details from the concept art may have interfered with the modeling and rigging but a lot of examples given tell me that they hit a small bump in the road and decided to just give up for some of these skins. It's indicative of either having to meet a deadline OR trying to use a deadline as an excuse to avoid working more. This is what the conversation should be about, not on whether the surveys should get axed. I'm sorry but I find that dumb

in my opinion the surveys ruined the surprise factor of the skins, it's very obvious that the skins in the concepts will be more and more beautiful, so when those skins come out in the game a lot of people will be disappointed

I firmly believe this is simply a case of employees/design team that has to make it appear that they are doing their job. They must think doing a near copy would be frowned upon or seem lazy but instead they make all these changes that end up sucking because they are collectively not real artists themselves. Sometimes when you have too many cooks in the kitchen you end up with something plain boring imbalanced and uninspired.

Or maybe they have an in-house design rule stating "make sure every character is either wearing modern track pants, grenades or sneakers. We aren't a fantasy game". YEAH I'm so glad to find someone who also likes the concept Leelah, it's something I constantly brag about in my friends group. Like, what we've got is not bad, as you said it's cute and she still my main skin but yeah having the faithful concept would've been great.

Concept art truly spoils the fun of having a skin because we know what they look like.

The concept art will often be much more acceptable for a wider demographic. When what the marketing department is demanding will sell overrides art being done well.

We should leave the concept art. It's nice to have at least an idea of what the skin will be like. As for deviations, epics need to make sure that the final skin has a variant of the original concept art.

Hey there. Cool video and I agree with your thoughts, I didn't know that many of the skins that I love got butchered but anyways I really wanted to ask what map you're playing because it looks cool as hell and I haven't seen anything like it.

People forget that Fortnite is a rated E game so a lot of stuff epic shaves down to keep that; Concept art is what helps me and many others decide what they actually want, we’re using our money we spend time to make for in game cosmetics. I doubt epic really has a benevolent reason for doing like they do with concepts but it is just a “concept”, can’t expect everything to go right .

I don’t think they should remove concept art but they should work harder to make the accuracy between the skin and concept are better. Obviously nothings gonna be perfect but there’s some skins that do the art Justice where as other skins just completely move away from the concept art entirely.

I think they should remove it if they don't want to stick to the concept of it, but if they do they should strictly plan on making it 1.1 and showing us it both the art and skin in game with more discussion

I personally think that they should either hold polls about the skins or just show that a skin will be changed from the concept art to the final version before releasing it into the game so at least people hyped for a particular skin can temper their expectations or, if they give enough time, can express their feedback about what they absolutely want to keep from the concept art so that the devs and artists may update it to better meet people's tastes. Basically, reaching a middle ground between what players want and what some executives/devs may want to change so we don't feel at the whims of some invisible out of touch group of people and so that we may be happier. Either that or they could endeavor to release the "final versions" together with a 1-to-1 reproduction of the concept art as an alternate version. TBH, from this season I ended up liking a lot just the 2nd Medusa skin (her in a battle armor) and the Awakened Hades skins. Aphrodite and, especially, Zeus I think are the most mediocre of the season. I especially dislike their 2nd skins as Aphrodite looks like this weird bubblegum woman that really doesn't have much going on and Zeus' 2nd skin doesn't even look like a God. It absolutely suck how its been translated into the game, IMHO. Also, Medusa's 1st skin vs the concept art is a travesty. I hope they can either establish a middle ground or just make skins closer to the concept art because, I legit feel there's so many cool concepts on there that got butchered for whatever undisclosed reason. BTW, and this also IMHO, if a popular concept art skin has to be wildly changed because of legal reasons, I think they should disclose that and propose the new design or allow people to request another concept skin to take its place. Once again, this could be a public poll on their websites, requiring accounts to be of at least a certain level to be able to vote, and for a couple of days at most so any delay would be minimal.

I just find it weird that they deviated so much from popular concept arts when they could've been easily executed in game. There's no reason old Paxton or old Aphrodite couldn't have been implemented, but then commit to designs like Cerberus which was certainly more difficult to execute well than those two. I agree it ruins the surprise but I also just find it really odd when concepts are well received and then they drastically deviate from them for seemingly no reason?

“Stopping survey skins so players can’t complain about downgrades” feels like a scummy move ngl. All that will do is make people even more mad because they see it as epic wanting to avoid more backlash rather then address the issue of final product not matching concept art. While skins are expected to deviate from the concept, elements that look good and can make it into the game should be carried over. For example, Oscar being made into a society character instead of an IO one and him having smaller hands is a fine change because of current storylines with IO no longer existing and also the fact bulky hands don’t look so good when holding guns. But there was no excuse to downgrade Aphrodite from her original concept art. She looks like she took Hope’s outfit and then dyed it white, at least at first glance. The weird plastic sleeves and the gold leaf laurel going from her leg up her body and to her head looked great and should have made it in. When you look at any of the other gods you can tell what god they are or at least what they represent. With Aphrodite she just looks like a normal person. Hades has cool underworld flame and a badass gas mask, Ares has a flaming helmet, Zeus is obviously Zeus with his lightning designs on his Greek outfit (even with the grenades on him), and Artemis has a cool night sky look and has arrows. But Aphrodite doesn’t have anything that makes her stand out.

Kimko five tails definitely was changed because of crash bandicoot and coco from it. Now if they get permission to use the other kimko five tails in Fortnite make it a edit style instead of a new skin

I feel like they could have switched immortal Aphrodite out for the concept art Aphrodite since me personally I don’t really like the immortal version right now and I think a lot of people would’ve appreciated the immortal skin being the same as the concept art instead

I actually like the fact that they sometimes tone down the skin as compared to the concept art. A lot of concept art that gets chosen is too crazy, edgy, or just far away from the actual original Fortnite aesthetic. Some people might not understand. But I actually Like a lot of stuff from Chapter One over stuff that came later. I even like when they made skins that look like generic versions of collab skins back before they started shelling out money for actual collabs. Like the Reaper skin. Generic John Wick. I like that skin. Too me that is the original Fortnite aesthetic. And I hate how far away we've gotten away from that with some of the new skins that have released.

I think people are overly critical. Plus is seems the minority with the loudest voices gets heard. Squeaky wheel gets the oil... Concept are is just that, a concept. Also, I don't know if the policy changed or not but when I got one of those surveys in the past there was an non disclosure agreement attached to it. So all these leaks shouldn't even be coming out. Also people who are disappointed with what they get, maybe they shouldn't follow accounts that leak this type of information. It's an issue that really isn't one...

The skin that upsets me the most so far is Aphrodite, she looked so sick in her concept art As for any skins I'm fine with, Kimiko I know she's supposed to be a fox, but if I'm right, she's specifically a "kitsune", so like a spirit or demon fox If you look em up, they're usually white foxes with red fur marks So I think her final result was justified, it just looks more accurate and better to me

Many older designs are very accurate to their concept art, whether that be the weapons or characters, I don't know why exactly these changes with such newer skins get made, but it's funny how they're always for the worse. I also heavily disagree with your opinion on the video, as someone who is huge on game preservation and documenting the development of games and updates I love seeing how things start and end.
