I keep doubting Volk not because he isn’t great but because his opponents are so good. After Islam I said I’d never doubt him again and here I am wondering how he’s gonna deal with Yair.

This was a breakdown I was stoked to see but its probably the best and most impassioned breakdown yet! Let's hope a loss to Volk doesn't start a string of losses :-) bit seriously these are two of my favourite fighters in the UFC. I just feel Volk is to wise and cunning no matter what is thrown his way. He is cool as a cool customer.

Yair is getting clapped up. Trickery and unorthodox striking is literally bread and butter for Volk. He's seen it all, he's trained with it even more and he's gonna smother him and literally ground and pound Yair until it's over. I LOVE Yair and his style, but this is a stylistic mismatch despite everybody saying it'll be interesting, I see now path to victory for him.

I hate how we measure reach. I know they've same reach on paper but that reach counts shoulder width, which doesn't mean as much as arm length. So in reality Yair probably does have the longer reach when it comes to punches. Just wanted to get that out but its gonna be an awesome fight for sure!

Always love your breakdowns. One thing you didn't mention is Volk's high fight IQ to counter and capitalize, which I think is going to be a big factor in this fight because all the flashy stuff sometimes leaves Yair in vulnerable positions.

It was unanimous dec. loss vs Makhachev, not split. Otherwise great insight as always. I've got Volk but Yair is rapidly improving between fights and you never know what he will bring out next. For all I know nobody should count him out unless he is asleep on the canvas.

it's absolutely deadly how Yair's opponents try to counter his kicks and he immediately lands a straight punch while his leg is up in the air, and now that he's good off his back grabbing his leg is also not as much of an advantage unless its someone who's really really good from the top position

Volk is a different animal than Josh Emmett, not taking anything away from Josh, he's as tough as they come. This fight is scary good for fans/gamblers. It's one I will stay away from. I wld love to see it go 5 rds😁

Volk is physically to strong. If he could handle the strength of makichev. He will dominate. He is now training alot more jiu-jitsu and wrestling. Volk to dominate.

I think ultimately, Volk will be too disciplined and intelligent for Yair. However, Yair is lethal and if he lands clean, he can take anyone out.

Think it'll be the perfect mix of striking and clinching up against the fence for Volk, just systematically wearing him down, has to get close to Yair, see it being dicey for the first 2 maybe 3 rounds and then I think Volk's gas tank will just drown Yair over the rest of the rounds.

Show notes: Haven't made any comments on this since the microphone issue. On that note has been lush to see quality mics. Shadow on face, looks like a black eye. From left side up could be a thing. I'm sure you've talked about it. Shaddows suck unless we're going cinematic. "THE WAR ROOM" screen is mint. Mainly because I've watched for a while. Nothing happens on it now tho. So we have fighter bio/tale of the tape on the cut, sweet I want that full screen. Use the 'war room' screen for the shots of fighters doing the shit you're talking about. "Vulnerable to high kicks" and there it is on the tv/war room image without the cut shot to said image. We get Dan, we get the image. For me it flows better. Much love to whoever reads this. 🤟😁

The problem for volk is he dominates but generally to decision. Doubt he will finish yair which gives yair 5 rounds to land something crazy. He’s always dangerous. Either volk decision or yair getting dominated but catching volk with something crazy.

Biased towards Yair here a little, in my opinion (although based on excellent points). Volkanovski has earned himself an X factor which hasn't been mentioned - he's a fucking animal of a human being in terms of grit and determination. Holloway took down Yair on several occasions, its likely that Volk can do similarly at points. The standup is compelling. But as an overall package, Volkanovski is the favourite.

Fundamentals win fights. Yair is explosive and unorthodox, but Volk is a well rounded, and well disciplined fighter. Makes better decisions. Volk just isn’t gonna give this shit away. The people Yair looked impressive in front of got smashed by Volk. Yair stood and went back and forth with Max for how many rounds? Volk pieced Max up for that same length of time.

It’s a dog eat dog world and Volk has bigger teeth than anyone in that division. I’ve doubted Volk too many times in past fights, I’ve learned my lesson. Never doubt Volk. Yair is amazing but Volk is just a different kind of beast altogether.

I know MMA math isn't always solid ... And Yair can definitely cause an upset. But Volk and just as importantly , his team are soooo good at research and prep.. maybe even the best right now... Between Eugene and Joe Lopez CKB etc , they KNOW they're opponents well. I think Yair got a really durable Max Holloway and Holloway pulled away and got the win. Volk in his last fight out paced and out boxed Max ( beat him at his own game). Then challenged and nullified Islams wrestling ( thats insane!!!!) made him look human .. gave other fighters the confidence and blueprint on how to beat Islam in the future I think... I think Volk will beat Yair at his own game as well, not with flashy kicks etc ... But with pace and patience , picking his moments and (like Hardy said) frustrate Yair and ultimately get the win
