Alexander O’Neal’s smash Criticize was released in 1987 and appears on his infamous All Mixed Up album and is his biggest UK hit to date. It reached No.4 in the United Kingdom and on the R&B chart in O'Neal's native United States. It was one of his only two hits to chart in the Republic of Ireland (reaching No.14). Criticize reached No.70 on the Billboard Hot 100. It features on O'Neal's second album Hearsay. The song is also featured in the soundtrack of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV on the in-game radio station "The Vibe 98.8".

I grew up in the 80s. Proper amusement arcades, amazing animation, and bouncy castles. Lots of bouncy castles. Playgrounds were potentially death traps, all concrete and steel, but, by the four winds, it galvanised you.

I'm 60 years old now but in my younger days I used to frequent the night clubs in town back in the good old 80s. This song was always played every time I went to one particular night club called Squires. Hearing it brings back so many great memories. I'm with you all the way. Am 66 now and also remember the clubbing days when this and many other 80s classics used to set the places afire! I saw him in concert at the Albert Hall (London) in April 1991 with The Pasadenas in support on the All True Man tour - seriously one of THE best concerts of my life.

This was my mothers theme song when I was baby. She always played this song and always said our immediately family was criticizing her. She had converted to Islam and the way she dressed, how many times she prayed down to the food she ate the rest if the family made a big deal out of it. She was passionate about her beliefs and her new found spirituality. One thing she didn't drop was the good R&B music...she wasnt dropping Alexander O'neal for nobody!!!! Alexander O'Neal had one of the most distinctive voices in R&B. This is one of my all-time favourite jams of his. Love the pulsating beat . Jam and Lewis upped the tempo on this one. Brilliant.

I'm late to the party. Never heard of Alexander O'Neal until a couple months ago. I don't know what planet I lived on because I thought I was an 80's music guru. I was reading an article on Morris Day and the Time and heard the name. Looked him up. POW! Instant fan. Now, I know all the songs on every album and he is the best find of the year!! I'm simply incapable of turning it off. I wish they still made music like this today. And my lord, what a handsome guy!

Alexander O'Neal is definitely one of the underappreciated artists of his time.. But please don't worry. There are dozens more unbelievably talented R&B artists yet to be discovered.. artists who have simply been lost in the shuffle as music tastes changed over time.. but the music they left behind testifies to their talents.

In 1986, I happened to get my 1st job as a teacher at his former HS in MS, North Natchez high School. I lived a mile from his mom (In Broadmoor) and met him at a club there in Natchez in '87. Went to the same college (Alcorn State). Not many people know, but he was an outstanding linebacker/defensive end in football. An All-around talented guy!!

Most gorgeous song ever. Everything about it is amazing, light, happy, upbeat. Backgrounds singing, instruments, the 80s were the best, artists really cared about their music&put everything into it. Even the film's of the 80z were best, and they had amazing soundtracks hits. I miss 80s so bad it hurts, makes me cry tbh! I wish can go back.

@@alancraig9052 Kilmarnock sounds foreign. So living in the US my answer would be no. But here in the states our dance floors don’t exist like they did in 90’s. Many of my friends now 40 & 50’s wish we could go dancing at a dance club like we used too. But I guess the reason they don’t market our age group is because we’re in bed by 11pm😂. Enjoy your dance club while it still exist.
