Alexandra will be going through, step-by-step, one of Francisco Tarrega’s most famous pieces. In this live tutorial we’ll discuss the different techniques required and how to achieve them, whilst also delving musically into how we can shape our own interpretation.

I think it's great to see so many young players gravitating towards the classic guitar. There are a lot of young jazz players coming up too.

:) it's so nice to see someone with a really good, personally developed performance-level of a piece sit and chat about how they arrive at it in retrospect like this. It's not difficult to find a teacher saying: this is how it is! But a teacher who remembers how they have changed the interpretation over time is so rare, and so useful. Thank you so much for making this available.

Just to say a huge thanks to you both for taking the time to do this, Alexandra is such a gifted player and going through this has helped enormously, I've finally staggered through to the end simply because this piece is so delicate and delightful, it now remains to "polish up" which will be another couple of years or longer 😂 many thanks again.

Alexandra, my favorite. She has a touch that is subtly unique and beautiful.

This is wonderful for me who is working on the piece right now. Seeking out the nuance and poetry rather than slavishly keeping to the scores literalness is a helpful approach, thank you.g

I feel Tarrega understood the guitar very well, he explored scales, hamonic changes, tones...I dunno, I guess it's attractive because he knew how to play it, and we as players can improve a lot just by learning his pieces, it's like each piece is a lesson of its own

This is a really excellent resource. Thanks for the insights and advice, this piece has been one of my favourite pieces of music since I was very young. And I have to say, your rendition of this piece in your Nov 2017 KZfaq is truly sublime. Of course, you can "improve" on that, but I suspect one day you'll look back and see what a fresh and brilliant interpretation it was. There is no such thing as the "perfect" interpretation. But what you feel on a particular day of your life is just that, and it's a snapshot, a moment in time.

This is a big help, and I can tell this is going to be a long journey for me to complete. I played acoustic country and blues, and metal on electric guitar for the last ten years. and i imagine that all my techniques and playing habits W/ hand and wrist memory I have will probably hinder my progress. Luckily I’m stubborn as an ox and persistent as hell 😂😂.. What was that medieval type chord called that you opened up with please, and what kind of key signature or chord types should I look to learn to get a medieval tavern type sound (as blues use 7ths a lot) hope this makes sense. Your a great guitarist and you’re playing style is very nice 👌 🤘🤘🇬🇧

The reason Alex is having problems with “muscles” in her hand is that her guitar position is wrong, to hold the guitar as high as this means that her arm is in constant tension. If she would drop the guitar and let her arm hang loose the hand problem would resolve.

It's useful for all musicians to study basic anatomy, for instance Alexandra is talking about muscles in the hand BUT there aren't any large muscles.

Where did "Barney" submit the questions to during the stream? The live-chat seemed disregarded. I wanted to ask why in bar 11 (the long scale run) she insistently plays a low C instead of the C# that's written (A string 4th fret).

Volume levels between the two speakers are poorly matched, tho host is too loud compared to the guest, making it difficult to listen to.

Modern guitarists have polluted the rhythm and phrasing of this work in its opening section. Nobody plays it in time despite Tarrega not having written in fermata or any other rhythmical notes.
