Thanks for the honest review. Citrus oils can be very irritating and can cause photosensitivity, that is, it can get worse with sunlight. I love the scent of citrus but it should not be used in skincare.

Exactly, also, even if the zone isn’t exposed, it is still one of the most irritating things for us with sensitive skin and multiple allergies. I really don’t get why they keep using these ingredients for skincare products when they should not be there in the first place.

This. This. This. Essential oils are SO concentrated and SO strong. E.g. it took me a whole 5x5ft rosemary bush to make 6ml of rosemary essential oil. Aside from how unsustainable that is (because people do harvest and create sustainably eg Evan Healy etc), but the medicine of these plants is where we get A LOT of actual medicine. It's not just pretty background scents and they're not to be underestimated in their strength to cause changes in the body. One of my favorite herbalists on here (sheofthewoods) calls essential oils poison... I don't know if I would go that far but they are definitely not benign.

I've mentioned this idea a few times before -- still super interested in seeing a water-based vs. silicone-based makeup video. What the difference is in look, effect, how to match them, etc.

Robert Welsh touches on this in a couple of his videos... He says it can be good to match them up, like wearing water based primers with water based foundation and so on. But what it really comes down to is how good you are about doing proper skincare all the time, not just right before wearing makeup, because having a really good skincare routine can make or break how makeup is going to look on you. And it depends on your skin in general and figuring out what products work best for you and your skin type. Alex touches on this as well... That we are all so individual, each of us is so different when it comes to our skin type, and where we live plays into it as well, that it is nearly impossible to making sweeping recommendations for people based on the ingredients in products. You just have to try different ones and figure out what works best for you. You can find KZfaqrs that have very similar skin type as yours, and use what they find works for them as a starting point. For instance I look for those that are in their late 30s or early 40s (I'll be 40 in May) and have dry skin that seems too look fairly similar to mine without makeup on. And then once I find a product that seems to work well for them and I think will work for me, I will then find someone else that is reviewing the product or whatever and it looks like they have very close to the same color skintone as me, so I can get a good idea of what shade I would need/want in the product. Because I very rarely find someone who has super dry skin as well as a light nuetral olive skin tone. But unless you live in the same exact climate as they do, are the same exact age as them with the same hormonal things going on, and are doing a very similar skincare routine as they are, there is always going to be some differences. So that is why they often don't specify how certain products are going to look based on if they are water, silicone, or oil based because it will be different for everyone.

And oil/wax based (usually for theater makeup) ... It's best to use corresponding products. Water based foundation wouldn't work well over a silicone primer

Essential oils especially pomelo or citrus (also limonene, linalool or geraniol) can sensitise your skin to crazy extends. Always good to patch test these products on a small area first. Thank you for the review❤

Your honesty is always so appreciated. Not only can we never know what we'll have a reaction to until we do, but our sensitivity to things typically increases with age. Two years ago I suddenly became excessivley sensitive to all members of the solanacea family (tomatos, eggplant, potatoes, etc.). I can't even touch a tomato plant with my right hand without getting painful, itchy and burning eczema on that hand within just a few short hours.

I’m so sorry to hear you had a reaction to it! I don’t have overly sensitive skin. I’ve been using the body cream just on my hands (cause that shit’s expensive) for a while now and haven’t had any issues. You’re right, the scent and formula are absolutely amazing.

I so appreciate your candor. I used the Rhode lip goo and loved it. After 2 weeks my lips became so chapped and it since i use a lot of different lip goos, it took me a beat to figure it out. And that was it. I know people love it but I could not recommend it now. Everyone’s skin is unique.

You’re right, these products smell amazing ❤ I have very sensitive skin…like crazy sensitive but I haven’t had any issues or reactions to using Rare Beauty Find comfort collection. The aroma therapy pen, a first for me to be using any product like this one, really does help me stay calm! I use it at work when I feel stressed…so every day lol

thanks for being honest, based on your description of the scent I was ready to try it, I love citrus/musky scents but I have asthma and extremely sensitive skin and certain fragrances (most) will get to me. I even have to be careful of candles. I suspect this would have given me severe rashes!

I developed those little brown spots from exposure to clary sage when I was gardening. Same mechanism as citrus as it leads to photosensitiy. It took years to fade. I can still see them if I really look.

Just FYI - If you're not sensitive to fragrance / fragranced products in general, it's MUCH more likely to be one of the skincare ingredients, NOT the fragrance that you're having a reaction to! Ashwaganda got my spidey senses tingling since that hasn't been extensively tested yet, especially not as a topical ingredient in skincare.

Hello Alexandra, in my case, I am wary of products containing essential oils (although I love their smells), I had an allergy to a bobbi brown cream (the yellow one) which has a smell to die for but it m It gave me little pimples and my face itched, it was horrible (yet I love this brand....). Appreciate the honesty luv - don't think my hands would manage to squeeze that hard plastic - no wonder the hand cream packaging doubles as a hand massager lol You are gonna need it ha ha ha. I think the aromatherapy pen is a total rip off imho. The packaging contains one 5ml teaspoon of product ! One toddler spoonful of medicine size - it would not last long with me lol. It's a no for me no matter how nice it smells ♡♡♡ Glad ur skin recovered quickly Alex xxx

I purchased the body cream a few months ago. Loved, loved the scent! However I broke out as well. Even had systemic reaction. I gave it to my niece. I really did love the smell. It’s just my body’s reaction. No ill will to the brand!

This happened to me recently with the Great Barrier Relief. If I use it, within an hour, I break out in a severe, painful & itchy rash. I’ve never had a reaction to a product before, either. And, yes, it took a week to first appear.

That is so freaky I actually had the opposite effect where I had those sorts of patches BEFORE using the lotion on my skin and after I started using it, my worst itchy patch went away I am curious to see if any more pop up in other areas?

Be careful. Once you have a reaction to one you can find yourself reacting to others that never gave you trouble. This happened to me starting in my 30’s with citrus enhanced products and by the time I hit 50 I could only use certain soaps including dish soap and my go to fragrance free Lubriderm lotion. Does make shopping easy though!

I like the hand lotion and the mist! The body lotion is nothing new, it smells good, that’s about it. It’s super light. Doesn’t really feel moisturizing, it’s super lightweight but doesn’t feel much, I’d rather use a different lotion, especially for the price… The hand lotion really feels great. It’s not oily and leaves the skin soft and nice. It definitely moisturizes the hands nicely. The scent again, is just amazing. The mist… I spray this and my mood feels so calming. I spray my hair and body randomly when I need a boost. I literally, find comfort, in it. I have a bottle in my car, at my work desk, and at home. The pen oil thing, not a fan don’t see a need for me.

It could be due to any ingredient, unfortunately, not necessarily one of the scented ingredients. I had allergy testing done last year and found out I'm allergic to several ingredients commonly used in skincare, makeup, etc. And the allergist said you can pretty much develop allergies to anything at any point in your life, so it doesn’t matter if it's something you've used before, etc. Anyway, long story short, if you have similar reactions in the future and want to find out specifically what's causing it, consider having allergy patch testing done. :)

It is sooooooo frickin annoying that we don't have a Sephora here in Ireland .. almost everything needs to be bought online and it is really difficult to get samples for ANYTHING ... I was so excited when a Flannels opened here in Cork recently BUT the amazing beauty section that they have in the UK is NOT included in the store here. It is so so annoying especially if you have allergies to skincare and make-up AAARGHHH - thanks for this review, I was so looking forward to purchasing the set, but I just can't risk it now!!! 😠
