As a classical guitarist that is still in school and only sees people that are way ahead of me playing every note perfectly, this type of raw video is super comforting in the way that it shows everyone goes through the work to play a piece (Some faster than others but still). Especially you since you're probably the one I look up to most. Thank you for refilling my motivation.

So brave to open yourself up like that. One thing that has really inspired me about the video is, as a newbie guitar player, I always assumed I would know I can play when someone names a tune and I just play the notes. It's reassuring to know the work never stops.

Nothing better then a behind the scenes video on new pieces. Alot of humans just listen to the final version and forget how many intense hourse of practicing we go through just to memorize it for example, and then there always is the fine tuning on some bars and stretches. Thanks for sharing it and thanks for sharing your art :)

This is great! We only usually see to finished product when a guitarist (or any other musician) plays, ,and it's good to see one actually trying to get to grips with a piece.

Props to Alexandra for putting herself out there while learning a new piece. Of course, her practicing is much better than my playing.

Oh my goodness. This is so much fun to hear. I've been playing these songs for about 15 years and have been through many, many adventures with them all. I have lots of fingering suggestions that actually make it a lot easier and some note changes. Both Llobet and Leisner have some note mistakes. David solved some of the problems with different voicings, especially in this one.

I generally go very, very, very slowly through a new arrangement to determine if the fingerings are optimal or need alterations to accommodate my hand limitations. I am fascinated by the challenges of learning, wish I could visit Ireland, it's been 3 decades 😢

It was amazing seeing Alexandra get through the piece so quickly. It would take me a whole lot longer than 20 minutes to get through part of one page let alone all four. The one thing that is always a bit of a mystery to me is how one determines the fingering needed to play a piece from just looking at the sheet music.

Thank you for this fascinating insight into your learning process. A question I have been meaning to ask is how long it typically takes you to work up a typical short piece like this from first sight to performance. The answer seems to be - scarily little!!!

To make you feel better, I'll upload a video of me trying to play Mary Had A Little Lamb on my ukulele. A few years from now, I might be able to play your warmup. Love your playing. Sat in the 5th row for Andrés Segovia in 1987 (have a bootleg tape somewhere). Rumors of his decline would be denied by his excellent performance that night, and his humorous comments to the mostly Spanish audience at the Miami Beach Theatre of the Performing Arts on April 4, 1987, just months before he died at age 94

I watched many KZfaq to recommend for learning guitar and realized an important key beside the fundamental theory and techniques. You may have to catch your moments of your moods or emotions to recall your recent frustration to next improvement about the song you know. You may have your guitar in front of you all the time. You may imagine an artist just see a beautiful picture without a pencil in hand, a scientist suddenly has idea without testing supports, a handyman just see the way to fix things without properly tools.

Since you're sight reading it - you can keep your right hand anchored. You don't need strum beauty for sight reading. There are places where during arpeggiation your hand is moving like a half inch on each arpeggio.

I played that arrangement on the guitar with another guitarist in my conservatory back in Córdoba. I played El Paño Moruno´s piano part, he had to play the Seguidilla's piano part, which is a complete nightmare. I think only Polo is harder, It's very savage hahahaha

Nothing to feel awkward about Alexandra. As someone who can't read music, or play classical, this was very impressive and informative to me. I was wondering though, when you work in these small ensembles, do you simply find the timing between each other to get a good 'feel', or do you think you benefit/would benefit from a conductor??
