These filters work great. I've been using them for 5 years. I use 4 filters in my setup. I have the 2 1/2 gallon Alexapure and I also made a diy 5 gallon bucket using Alexapure filters when I am overlanding or camping. I just bought more filters last month and like my old filters they work the same and filters fast. I have no issues whatsoever with my filers. I've done water test and everything is on par. Thanks for your video. P.S Strange that the filters I bought a month ago looks like my old filters. I'm not sure why your filters looks completely different?

You CANNOT STOP using them!!!! Must keep them wet. Used correctly, there's NEVER mold and filters can last up to 5+ years. The way you know it's time to change the filter, is that the water begins to come out of the spout slower.

Yep! I'm well over 1000 gal on one filter and still going strong (using city water). I regularly clean it every 3-4month. Water tastes great and the filter is holding up just fine. Not sure what these other reviews mean by "metallic taste" or only lasting month..."

The small amount of water that is trapped in the top is too keep them moist by design just like the water in the bag they are sealed in.

Have used the Pro for 2+ years w/ 2 filters. Original filters still working. I think in the instructions it’s suggested to clean them every 6 mos. or so. I have a toothbrush (stored in a baggy for this purpose) to give them a scrub if it seems like the flow slows down. After the brush cleaning they work ‘normally’ again.

I did take them out from time to time to clean them. In the summer eveything stays pretty clean but in the winter they do tend to get a light film of mold on them every few days so I also use a toothbrush to scrub them off under running water.

Your video made me wonder about the lifespan of filtering contaminates. A couple years ago the website had stated something like 5,000 gallons per filter, if the filter was maintained. Now the website states 200 gallons per filter. Anyway, I wouldn’t have checked otherwise, so Thank You! 🙏

@@erikapoindexter342 That's exactly what I thought it said. I remember thinking if I had two filters than that should be good for 10k gallons and last me for many years. And then after seeing just 200 this last time I'm wondering if they cheapened them up or they just don't last as long as they first promoted. For as much as one filter costs there's no way I'm replacing them yearly. Once every two years max and if these don't even last that long I'll have to look at other gravity fed filters that work similar to this.

@@Mr.Everything I know this is old now, but I'm chatting with their support about the capacity. I remembered it being 5,000, the same as you, and was bothered that it now says differently. This is what I was told: "Hello there, and thank you for reaching out. I hope your day is going well. The Alexapure Pro filters have a verified filtration rate of 200 gallons. The wording has been updated. Previously, it was stated that it had a capacity of up to 5,000 gallons, which was estimated based on the testing of the 200 gallons." What the heck, absolutely infuriating!

@@quinnh3008 I'm glad to know it was once listed at 5,000 gallons. I remember the original filters lasting for over 2 years until they really got slow with the filtration. The replacements to the replacements I got about a year and a half ago already seem to be slower than the originals I had. When they were less than a year old they hardly work in the winter and get a flim of mold on them unless they're resubmerged every 12 hours or so. Now that it's warm out they're working pretty well again but do slow down from time to time, especially if they aren't constantly used. When they're new, 2 can filter the entire top tank in less than an hour, compared to a couple hours to a full day depending on the time of year for me and if I go more than a day without using them. I'm curious to see if any other brands will work in this reservoir to test them compared to the AlexaPure.

I ran across this video today. I changed out my alexapure filter today. I only use one filter and this one was almost 4 years old. 1 1/2 gallon a day for almost 4 years ain't bad. I'm hoping the new filter will last as long. I don't have a way to post a picture of the old one, but I can tell by looking at it that it was time to change. The new filter in one hour put just over 3 inches of water in the lower half.
@Mr.Everything
@Mr.Everything 8 ай бұрын
I've never used just one filter but only 3 inches in the collection tank doesn't seem that good. With 2 good filters I can fill the top part the whole way full and all of it will filter to the bottom on 60-90 minutes. I'd think with just 1 new filter you should probably get at least half the bottom filled in 1 hour.

Interesting, it's supposed to be impregnated with colloidal silver in the middle. I owned one for 4 years and just bought another. This filter did the trick for a long time. However, this new one seems to not filter as good water as the older model.

I bought mine in October of 21 and still fills the same speed. I'm just wondering how often you're supposed to get a new filter. Two people that use about a gallon a day. I'm not good at math! It gets clogged apparently. That's a pretty good sign lol.

I'm thinking of going back to Brita tbh. I bought an alexapure on the premise that the filters last 5 years, however, from my experience I've had to replace my filters annually. I've owned the system for just about 5 years now and have gone through 4 filters so not great. My current filter's throughput was great for 1-3 months. then suddenly it slowed down to a noticeable trickle. It will probably fill a tank in half a day, but lately I've been running into the issue where the water coming out of it also makes my throat sore. I clean them every 2 months with a soft sponge. I'm beginning to think that this was initially a great product but as it gained more traction and with cost cutting, their quality has really went downhill. And now they're deceiving their customers with promises of what was and not is. Just my 2c.

Considering my filters from 2020 worked so well and now these seem to be noticeably worse I'd say it's possible they have gone down in quality. I know there's the Berkey water filters but I'm not sure if they're any better or would work in an AlexaPure because I think the actual stainless steel reservoir looks the same.

I have had good filter service life by performing a good back-flush. Best done outside, hold a garden hose end on the round washer at the water outlet tube and gently use medium water pressure to force the water out from the inside. If you hold the filter over a white bucket while BF'ing, you WILL be amazed at all the crap jumping out of the filter's exterior. I then reinstall the filter, I use just one, and still perform a 1 or 2 tank filter flush to get back in service.... YMMV....

I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I read somewhere to not let the filter dry out. Does that mean that you're water level in the top container should be high enough to fill the bottom and then it stops dripping and the unfiltered water stays backed up in the top one to keep the filter submerged?
@user-mp9rd4hg8b
@user-mp9rd4hg8b Жыл бұрын
I had the same concern. if you always have enough water to cover the filter, the bottom reservoir will always overflow, so you will never be able to keep the filter fully submerged. My top reservoir never completely empties and, with the lid always on, the filter will never have a chance to literally "dry out," which is what I think they mean. In other words, don't take the filter out and leave it on the counter for a few days or else it really will dry out.

All that you need to do, is to filter a gallon or two of water every 3-4 days. This will keep the filter primed and moist. If going out of town for a week or more, just remove the filter/filters and place in a ziploc bag full of water until you are back home and using it again.😉

The filter last at the most a month before it starts to reduce the amount of water. You can see when you add water that take less water after less than a month just replaced the filter 20 days ago and started with two gallons and now just take 1 and 3/4. I do have a water filter system for the whole house so it has nothing to do with my water, it is something with the filter and they are not cheap to last so little time.

This is interesting if we're all experiencing the same problem. I know for a fact for over a year the 2 filters I had in 2020 would run the water through quickly. Maybe it got slightly slower over the months but I could at least fill it up the morning and it would be filtered by the afternoon or do it at night and by morning it was all through. Now it takes 24-48 hours in these new filters that worked like my old ones when new but pretty much came to a halt after the first week or two. It makes me wonder if the filters have gotten lower in quality or just the quality of water is getting more and more polluted and slowing it down.

Did you TDS test the water quality? I used mine for the first time and found that the water quality was the same or worse after going through the filter. I called them to let them know but the guy didn't know why. I going to replaced it with another new filter and check the results. By the way, we bought a new frig with water dispenser which used expensive filters that are WORTHLESS. Don't waste your money on those. I used 2 different meters to do the test results to check for reliability.

The new ones I bought never seemed to work correctly. Even when spring time came around they still seemed as bad as the old ones I was replacing. I contacted My Patriot Supply and they gave me troubleshooting steps to purge any air blockages out of them but it didn't fix anything. They then sent me replacements for free and they've worked perfectly for the last few months I've had them. Eveything flows through in around 1 hour. So I'm not sure if it has to do with the weather or I just had a bad batch. If these perform poorly this winter then I'd have to assume it has something to do with the temperature or humidity in the colder months.

Oddly enough these new filters already seem to have slowed down to almost no flow. @@Mr.Everything Do you keep them hydrated? I just watched a different video where someone claimed you have to keep these wet all the time and if you let them dry, you have to remove and soak for 24 hrs to make them filter properly again. That rather bummed me out because I was looking to buy this brand but I'm on the road a lot so there's no way I can keep them hydrated all the time. Curious as to your experience in this regard?
