one of the best movies i have ever seen, powerful in the way that the "hero" isn't what one would expect, and is all the better for it.

This movie truly has one of the best endings i've ever seen, and that's not something i like to say easily and toss around. Hollywood is often afraid of giving us a weak hero, or making him do the wrong choices. But this character ends up better than all those other movies, sacrificing everything he has, losing his girlfriend, for a choice he isn't even sure of. At this point i'm just rambling useless stuff, but it's the only way i got to evacuate the shock from how good an ending that was :)

Parenthood (NBC) 2x20 "New Plan". I heard it towards the end of the episode, and I was like "this sounds beautiful; I have to look it up."

So true. There was a great line from the movie spoken by Ed Harris that I feel represents exactly what the movie is all about and completely ties in with the ending. Detective Remy Bressant: Would you do it again? Clip Corwin Earle? Patrick Kenzie: No. Detective Remy Bressant: Does that make you right? Patrick Kenzie: I don't know. Detective Remy Bressant: It doesn't make it wrong, though, does it?

a great movie and soundtrack. It would have been nominated had Afleck's name not been attached. Closing song bookends the movie.

@catherinetodd - I don't think this song is on Away We Go, but it was a fantastic movie and a brilliant soundtrack. This song is on a CD called Towards the Sun, and it's a limited release, hand numbered. It's fabulous.

@catherinetodd - CD called Towards the Sun. Better hurry, though, because he only made 5,000 copies of this CD. They are hand numbered, seven songs on the CD, and you can order it off of his website.

LOVE IT! Thank you so much for posting "Through The Dark" by Alexi Murdoch from the film Gone Baby Gone. I myself and another reviewer on Amazon both were mourning the fact that this beautiful song was NOT on the CD or mp3 download. I am so happy you have found it and posted it... where did it come from? Where can I find more by this wonderful musician?

@Skullz930 - Totally agree. Regardless of what a crappy mother she was, she still loved her child. She didn't love her the right way, or appreciate her, but she still loved her. No matter how nice Morgan Freeman was, the truth is, she was not his, nor did he have any right to take her. I was very torn, battling the decision in my own head, but in the end, truth is truth. No matter how you feel about it, no matter how much you disagree with it, truth is truth. Love doesn't drown out truth.

The movie was great and I love Casey Affleck as a director and as an actor. That said, the book by Dennis LeHane is still superior to the movie. This is most often the case with novels turned into movies. This one was exceptionally well-done.

@rblasco1970 No. It is morally ambiguous - just like everything else. There are a host of factors that must be taken into account and 'right' or 'wrong' are only two labels amongst millions tacked on every issue. The more human an issue is, the more so. Truth is factories telling the public not to feed strikers so it ends sooner. Love is giving food to the strikers' starved families. And even then it works both ways. Truth is Helene is her biological mother. Love might favor Freeman in the end.

*****SPOILER ALERT*******This movie was spectacular!! Casey Affleck's decision at the end was the right thing to do but he'll never know if it was in the best interest of the child. The little girl's mom was no good but she was HER little girl. Morgan Freeman had no right doing what he did but it will always hang over Casey Affleck's head, the little girl might have been better off with a man who knows what it's like to loose a child, therefore knows how to purely love and truly appreciate one.
@catherinetodd14 жыл бұрын
What is the web address?
@rblasco197013 жыл бұрын
@Stranger - Sorry. Regardless of how nice Freeman's character was, he was not that little girl's daddy. He took that child in the middle of the night, from her bed, from her mommy, and no amount of pretty clothes or toys could ever change that. The lies that accompany his decision, and the lies he would tell that child when she asks for her mommy makes clear that it is not morally ambiguous. We don't like Helene, but that doesn't change the fact that she was Helene's baby, not Freeman's.
@StrangerToEarth13 жыл бұрын
@rblasco1970 And it's not that we don't like Helene-we are shown just how incorrigible a mother she is, how the child's development would be stunted by her influence, lacking in options. Means justify the (long term) ends; evil must sometimes to be used to counter greater evil: a few strands in a web, and it's multicolored, not black and white. Wherever your opinions lie, you can't take lying and kidnapping as sure-fire proof of complete wrong, because some would say Helene's having a child is.

Afleck hasn't had a true hit since Good Will Hunting. He's done movies, but the last few of them have been really lousy box-office wise. they have a saying in H'wood, Three strikes, you're out. I think Gigli was the last of those three. He did a couple movies after that, but I can't even remember what they are. He did one earlier this year with Russell Crow that was really good. He was listed much farther down in the credits.

Perhaps he did the right thing in principle; but one is left to wonder, how the girl will turn out? Likely she'll be a second of her mother, irresponsible and trashy. Her mother would probably forget about her and go on with her vapid life, and the little girl would be offered a good life with Morgan Freeman. One day she would probably have to face her origins, but I think if I were her I'd appreciate the way things turned out. It's morally ambiguous, I s'pose.
