I hate the classic nerdy character protagonist , it's the "I can do literally everything" plus " I'm kinda clumsy and shy" played by an attractive actress/actor. I hate it
3 жыл бұрын
This. I also hate the nerd character that knows everything about everything, like Amy in B99 (love the show though). The most intelligent people irl actually don't go around scaring everyone with their trivia knowledge. Also the actual pros are specifically good at one or two things.

It’s lazy writing. They want to give their main characters flaws so they’re not perfect but giving them the clumsyness is just a cop out because they don’t want to give them flaws that could possibly make them unattractive to the viewers... I hate it

Why does every teenager in these movies want to go to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, or Duke? And how do they get in if they're average in literally every way? Just once, I'd like to see the protagonist go to a normal university, one they could realistically get into. They can't all be "gentlemen of Harvard" (I hope you read that in an Armie Hammer voice).

It's on the same level as that one line, can't remember what movie particularly, but I know Danny Gonzales made a video on it...anyways, that paraphrased as "remember how you're a loser and no one likes you? Well, if you let me into this party, you'll help me not end up like you!"

To be fair, it's equally lacking in self-awareness to voluntarily leave your dance team for someone else and then blame them for it. Her friend wants her to defy her mother when her grades have dropped horribly and makes it sound like she has some point about making your own choices, meanwhile she's blaming the protagonist for her own choices and not taking any credit for them at all.

Also, colleges are portrayed to focus on extracurriculars way too much. Colleges that have academic heavy degrees put a lot of weight on academics. Great if you do other stuff but you need the grades to back it up. Otherwise, how will you do well in college classes? When I was applying to college, one of the things I was told over and over was to make sure my grades didn't drop towards the end. If you are "accepted" to the college (before a final transcript is sent to the school) and your grades start dropping dramatically, the college may waitlist you or decide not to admit you.

Undercover Unicorn as someone with a dead parent, I completely agree that it’s annoying. Like, it irks me that these things are used as surface level plot points. I’d rather they either stop killing off one parent just to make it more interesting or they actually explore grief in the story a bit more.

Like the kinds of parents that push their children to work harder academically and don't want you doing things that aren't involved with that. You may have wonderfully understanding parents, but not everyone has that luxury. My grandmother is strict about what kinds of friends I have, and sometimes I do have to lie about them. And in Work It, Quinn has a freaking 4.0 Gpa, and literally still decides that she has to create a dance team to get into Duke. *why tf does every netflix chrarater get into an ivy-league school that easily, 🙄* ( Has anyone noticed these movies, always have predictable sequels, it's actually annoying. 😑)

*How to create a basic teen Netflix movie in 7 easy Steps* 1. _Get a Girl/Guy who’s “quirky” yet has untapped potential_ (Most likely always Caucasian) 2. _Get a One dimensional more interesting friend to tag-a-long and exist solely for the main characters dilemma dispute reason_ ( Most Likely always a Black/“Minority” or a member of the LGBTQ community or if their trying to kill two birds one stones they’ll intermingle them 3. _Have a Screenplay filled with dialogue that is tedious and boring or has _*_Slang_*_ not used anymore_ 4. _Have a basic Mean Girls Rachel McAdams wannabe bully the protagonist_ 5. _Main Girl/Guy has awakening after unnecessary conflict_ 6. _Movie ends with some message that was not clearly fleshed out and characters life continues_ 7. _You realize the time you’ve wasted watching garbage, so you drink bleach and go to sleep wondering when will they stop making these type movies, and create something with substance._

Quinn saying "which part of history do you want to be on" is an implied ultimatum that would mean their friendship would suffer if she didn't abandon her team to go with Quinn which is emotional abuse and a huge red flag.

@@dionisialieo9493 That's not what I find creepy. it said he graduated a couple years ago, which means he graduated at least 2 years ago. That makes him 20 or older. However I'm a senior in high school right now. And the majority of my grade is 17. This story started at the beginning of her senior year. So the fact that a 17-year-old started dating a 20-21+ year old is a little creepy. My friend was dating a 21-year-old and she was 17. He ended up getting fined and put on the sex offenders list. Like it is a serious thing

I really wish Netflix would just find someone, anyone, who’s been in school at some point in time in their life. Because they obviously do not understand how schools work. No everyone does not play the goddamn cello! Now if she had said clarinet, sure. Everyone plays the clarinet. But no one plays the cello. No one! Wait wait wait. So this man NO ONE CAN FIND has social media and a public dance studio where he gives dance lessons? Are Netflix writers even humans? One girl quits and the entire troop is gone? Why? Why wouldn’t they have just fulfill their obligation to be in the tournament without her? I mean it’s not like she was their most important dancer in fact she COULDN’T dance. I swear to God the writers of Netflix are not human. They don’t know what being a human is. None of this movie makes any sense because it wasn’t written by humans. (1.2k likes??? Wow!!!! Thanks everyone!!!!)
