RIP Tina. And, yes the abuse was very real. My mother use to talk about Tina showing up at shows with blackeyes, back in the day, but the abuse was so commonplace back then that no one really saw it as a problem. Congrats on your channel I hope to see it grow.

Tina's book : I, Tina is a fantastic read. When you read the book you will realize how terrible the abuse really was. Do go out and purchase it. You will be glad you did. It's a true story of strength and perseverance. I've been so lucky to see her in concert twice.

Even Laurence Fishburne had to tell production that he will film certain scenes "once" so they had to get it right from the get go. He embodied Ike's personality and madness to perfection. Laurence Fishburne recognized that he needed to disengage the personification for his own safety and others involved in the filming. Only Laurence Fishburne knew the limits and character it takes to embody Ike, because he was fully aware of the dangers involve when channeling Ike's characters.

I used to play Private Dancer on a loop the summer of my 13th year. I had no knowledge of Tina Turner before that, but was an instant fan. I recall the variety of sound in 1980's music, so many great artists. I had no clue about her personal travails, I just admired her powerful voice. She's an incredible person. I became a fan of Angela Basset when I saw her in Strange Days in 1995, she had a great character but not as much screen time as I'd like. Thanks for another great reaction!

@@AlexxaReacts Strange Days is one of those slightly futuristic movies. Like our modern day but with a few tweaks, like being able to experience other folks memories via headsets. It has a great cast, and I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't feel confident recommending it to others. I haven't watched it in years so I don't know if it holds up. Not a must see, but a back burner type. My answer was wishy-washy... *'Good film, not a must see.'*

What part of the movie, I’ll never forget is the part where our community rejected her, claiming that she wasn’t black enough that her songs weren’t black enough. There’s no black or white just music and soul. and Tina had soul ,she had that voice god what a legend. She broke so many first, and they will never be another like her.

I can't wait for this reaction!!!!! I believe you are the first person to do this movie! I almost always hate biopics of musicians (they never ever get the stories right, they fudge stuff, and the best way to learn about musicians is to listen to their music, watch them perform, read the album covers, and THEN read a book, if there's a good one out there. Movies almost always blow it.) But THIS one is the exception to the rule. I think the reason is because it's not about the artist's life, but one of their marriages! It's got a focus. Angela is fantastic in this, and so is Lawrence. Wow. CAN'T WAIT! May not be there for the Premiere itself, but I will DEFINITELY be watching this reaction!!!! Did I say "can't wait" yet? :D

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. One of Angela Basset best roles. She portray Tina Turner life beautifully. I hope you know understand her life and why she left the USA for swissterland. Powerful movie. Read her book and also check out her videos , interview on youtube there are so many. Another great role Angela Bassett plays is in waiting to Exhale. Laurence Fishburne is an amazing actor he can play any role but yes ineed you hate Ike Even more lol. There were no laws protecting battered women back then. Police were abusers too. Leaving is when the woman gets murdered. Leaving is the most dangerous time for her. Tina had a shellfish, materialistic mother who liked the money and wanted her to stay. Zero support system. Zero money to escape.

Alexxa, you were like the loudspeaker for our minds during this reaction!!! 😄 When you said early on "I don't know how I feel about Ike & Tina", I thought.....uh-oh! She doesn't know! Oof. This one hurts, no doubt about it. ONE THING I have to say though: Ike was not an insignificant talent, he was a super major component of their records and their live act that can't be overstated, and his career stretched back to 1953, to the very, very earliest cusp of the R&B/rock & roll era. Some say (not me ,though, lol) that the first "rock & roll" record is one he made (Rocket 88)....but which came out under the singer's name (Jackie Brenston). But all that doesn't mean he wasn't a dick! And he didn't have to take it out on Tina that he hadn't gotten the credit he deserved! It wasn't her fault! Pfffft. I was definitely disappointed to hear about this dude's behavior because before she came out with her story, he was just Ike Turner. Ike & Tina. Beloved! All through the 60s and 70s, they were beloved, they played and toured everywhere, constantly. They had hits from time to time. He had NOTHING to complain about. Ugh, getting upset all over again! lol. GREAT REACTION!!!!! THANKS!!!! You are a terrific reactor! I am subscribed!

PS: A fiction story that touches on this era very well is "Dreamgirls" with Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy, Beyonce. As far as music biopics that actually tell the story well, I thought Queen Latifah did fantastic job playing Bessie Smith, I thought that was very well done. And "Love And Mercy" about Brian Wilson, that also did a good job. "Coal Miner's Daughter" from 1980 is great, about Loretta Lynn. Other than those, music biopics all really inaccurate. Sometimes great performances, but never a source for information that you don't doublecheck and triplecheck! (THIS movie, however, did a great job telling the story, right down to the venues they're playing, and the recording studios they're using, super tiny details. Ike with his Beatle haircut, lol. He had that thing for years!

This movie is one of the greatest music biopics of all time. The black community have turned this biopic into a comedy of sorts. Here are some facts: Patti Labelle, The late Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Vanessa Williams, Robin Givens & Halle Berry were all considered for the role of Tina Turner & Laurence Fishburne turned down the role of Ike Turner five times. Him & Angela Bassett were also in Boyz N The Hood & Akeela & The Bee, Him & Chi McBride who played Frost were also in Hoodlum, Him & Vanessa Bell Calloway who played Jackie were also in Biker Boyz & him & Jennifer Lewis who played Tina’s mom were also on Blackish. Jennifer Lewis is only a year older than Angela Bassett & she was believable as her mother, they were also in Meet The Browns, Angela Bassett & Phyllis Yvonne Stickney who played Ilene were also in How Stella Got Her Groove Back & Vanessa Bell Calloway was in Tina Turner’s What’s Love Got To Do With It music video.

Ike Turner was troubled.... if you have any idea of the horrors he went through before the age of 12, you'd understand why he is "a monster".... That's all I have to say. In addition to the fact Angela and Laurence should've won the Oscar in '94 for this... Laurence Fishburne said he rewrote the script because Ike was portrayed as too much of a villain and monster, and, having experience being abusive with his wife, he knew exactly what he was dealing with, and he knew the inside of Ike, and he did the best he could. I guess when you say he tried to humanize Ike it seems impossible, but it isn't... people like him exist in the real world, and that's human.... props to both Angela and Laurence, and may Ike & Tina rest in peace

I don’t understand why you block out so much for those on KZfaq. On one hand I can say it’s because of the violence, but if that’s the case, why show/review it at all? Then you block out the last scene between Ike and Tina in her dressing room where there isn’t any violence. Why was that? I’m disappointed in this reaction as well as Apollo 13 where you muted the sound of a very important scene at the end. I’ve saved others to watch, but now am second guessing myself on it. Can you please explain why you did it this way to these movie reactions please??

On Patreon my patrons get access to the original edited videos with the original sound. Exactly. Tina wasn't no punk or shrinking violet. She was always a rider. Tina put hands on people too men and women. When it went down on the road she was in the mix with Ike and rest of the band fighting their way out of venues. Ike saw Tina as a little sister and a wingman and Tina wanted Ike to be in love with her but he was never that physically attracted to her. She used to bring women to Ike before they got married and Ike didnt understand why she changed. So when she would pout about it or get pissed about his other women, that's when he would slap her because that's all he knew to do. Sometimes she'd fight back and sometimes she wouldn't. They were toxic together. He was troubled and emotionally stunted no doubt but Tina was not innocent or a very nice person back then either. You could blame it on her bitterness over Ike not loving her like a wife but even she said the movie was very unfair to Ike
