This whining noise is referred to the oil pump? Because i have the same problem in my punto 1.3 mjt

Only for JTD 2.4 engines in 136, 140, 150, 175, 185hp versions. The others have no chain-driven pump. The 2.4 200 and 210hp don't have it either.

Ive been having such sound on my 400k kms VW golf mk4 1.6 for about 5 years ant 120k kms. Now i replaced the timing belt and it is the same but for addition i hear grinding/ scratching occasionally, i believe the oil pump should be done in it. It has a close- cased one.. How did it turn out for you? Did you change the oil pump?

I have no idea how it's made in a golf. Often this noise is just a belt pulley, alternator bearings or bad sterring pump.

@@dabyd64 i double checked every pulley, i took off the accessory belt and the noise persists. It is really strange, but i really believe it is an oil pump that has started making such noises. But if i give the timing for the noise i would say it is an intake camshaft since it is the only thing that would match up with rotations by the given noise

No, it just the chain, won't fail but makes this annoying noise. I drove another 7 years just fine.

pablito0603 sure, the noise comes from the crankshaft pulley, but here's no bearing there. There's only the oil pump. Usually that sound comes from the chain because it lengthens and grinds. Try with 10w40 oil, there are few cases that fixed it that way, but eventually it will make it again, the only solution is to replace the oil pump. JTD 20V 2.4 175-180-185hp have the same oil pump. And the 10V 136-140-150 have the same pump type, but different from the 20V

But it doesnt necessary mean that it will give... mine sounds like that last 40 000 km.

pablito0603 as long as the oil lamp goes away in 1-2 seconds after powering the engine, it's ok. The problem is just the noise, which is annoying, that's a very ugly sound coming from a gorgeus car. Just try a slighty thicker oil, can make a huge difference.

Yeah, but u cannot put thicker oil in 20v. 5w40 is the right choice and recomended by factory. Only slight variations are allowed ( like 5w50 for summer or 0w40 for winter). My oil lamp goes off as soon as it cranks, so I guess it s all good. And the rattle...well TBH it is Diesel power :)) Peace and out
