I had to change the discs and pads on my 159 so I thought I would record it and hopefully help future DIY'ers. So this is my 159 Brembo brake disc and pad change video!! Valid for any Alfa Romeo Brembo setup such as v6 3.2 and some Brera models.

few notes: -its good practice to measure thickness of brake disc: front not less 26mm at back not less 10mm -brake pads come in different shapes according to axis(front/back) -i didn't knew alfa 159 had brake sensor, definitely will search for that

And we have more tips: When removing rims check for cracks (mine was cracked from inside) good practice go to the shop for balancing (my rims was badly balanced and one even bent) before that i always blamed country roads for car shaking...

One thing i would suggest, is checking the pistons and their seals on the calipper for any damage or signs of corrosion. This should be done every time brakes are changed. If any of the rubber seals are damaged, even a tiny hole will allow water in and corrode the piston. The piston will then get stuck jamming the brakes or just making them stuck slightly and brakes will overheat. Then the new disc and pads can go to the bin.

Hey good video, erverything is visible, the quality is good and the cutting ist perfect, but: You should always clean everything with a wire brush (inside of the brake caliper, the screws and the wheel hub) ! Especially the inside of the brake caliper: it is very important for the mobilty of the brake pads, if you dont do it: dust can stop the mobility! And you should use ceramic paste, especially on the sides of the brake pads, because they are moving over the inner sides of the brake caliper! Also there is a mounting for the cable. You should use ist! Have a nice day :)

Thanks a lot for this video! What's that one screw for in the brake disc? Is it just made for easier installation? Because mine seems very worn out and I'd rather leave it out than risk having to drill it out next time i want to replace the disc again.
@JasonNeil
@JasonNeil 3 жыл бұрын
The disc will be held in place firmly by the wheel bolts. However, I wouldn't risk NOT installing it just in case the disc slips on a wheel change. I would install it, just don't tighten it too much and you should be fine next time.

Apparently it isn't uncommon for them to be a real pain to remove. They are a different material to the alu calipers and this causes corrosion at the interface. Heat and violence is supposed to be the way forward.

he means that at the inner side of the calipper, there is a conduct für the warning contant cable, you should use this. also, you should use ceramic paste instead of copper paste when a vehicle has abs system on board (i dunno why to be honest)

hey there, do you need a hex driver or a zxn driver for the screws of the caliper?
@JasonNeil
@JasonNeil 5 жыл бұрын
Hi John, you need an external torx driver for the two caliper bolts. Take it very slowly if you get some resistance and squirt some penetrating oil and leave to soak. This side was fine but on the other side I was close to sheering a bolt as it was very seized.
@xshowda

@@JasonNeil I did it today, did the change of both sides in 1,5 hours with a 10 min smoking break between the sides. the passenger side was much harder to loose, i took a 70cm torque wrench for more leverage, it worked. Driver side was very easy with a little wrench like you used in your video. External torx driver E18 worked also perfect for me, got a whole set with extern and internal torx drivers for 20 euros

+Zenderman you are right, i think with ti trim or on the sportiva trim with sport package they made these brakes available for also smaller engines, but they painted the calipers red. it should be the same aluminium brembo calipers, such a strong good brakes.
