Of the many great songs Burt Bacharach wrote with the late lyricist Hal David, Bacharach has said "Alfie" is his favorite. And Stephen Holden of the New York Times wrote of "Alfie," "...its central question seems more urgent today than it did in the mid-'60s: "Are we meant to take more than we give/ Or are we meant to be kind?"
This performance of "Alfie" is posted as a tribute to the late Mr. David, a man who has given us the timeless lyrics to so many wonderful songs.
The video is from the critically acclaimed show, "I KNOW A PLACE - Spend a Night in the Sensational '60s" starring Jennifer Sheehan which debuted in Spring 2012 at Feinstein's in New York. (The show also includes a medley of Bacharach and David hits, which can be found on this KZfaq Channel.)
Accompaniment provided by music director James Followell on piano, Dan Gross on percussion, and Craig Magnano on bass/guitar.
