Thank you for sharing this Kit - it is very significant. As well as celebrating Alfred’s achievements on the platform, today is a day to think about the baton being passed on. By Alfred - but also, before him, by Edwin Fischer to Alfred. There is a real ethics to this - for example, as you say, how one carries what one has received without imitating.

I would like to add: Maestro Brendel also studied with Katia Andy who was Fischer assistant and whose mother studied with Clara Schumann who certainly influenced her daughter's musical world. I studied with Miss Andy many years ago and her interest in emotional playing and musical playing set her apart from the purely technical teachers. She would say "play musical" and she would speak of "expository" playing. In these days of "historically informed" performances the emotional often gets side lined and I believe that was never the intention in the 19th century. How lucky we are to still have those traditions being passed on by Brendel

On Alfred Brendel's birthday an intimate conversation on meeting him here in Philadelphia (Philly) was beautiful and touching.

Quelle belle rencontre ou plutôt des retrouvailles...je me souviens du documentaire qui suivait l'ensrignement de Mr Alfred Brendel à Kit Armstrong. C'était en angleterre je crois. Passionant, que de talents ! 🙏

Merci de votre commentaire. Vous pensez probablement au documentaire « Set the Piano Stool on Fire » du réalisateur Mark Kidel, tourné entre 2008 et 2010 selon mon souvenir.

@@kitcarmstrong Je vous remercie de votre réponse. Oui, il s'agit bien de ce documentaire, on y voit vraiment l'expression de votre extraordinaire talent, avec l'enseignement de M. Alfred Brendel. Pour moi qui m'intéresse un peu à la musique, et lorsque je vois une partition des grands classiques, je me dis, c'est possible de faire vivre ça !? vous êtes un peu des "extraterrestres..."! J'essaye d'aider mon fils qui commence le piano, alors déchiffrer la partition "chanson sans paroles" de Fritz Spindler pour moi est laborieux...Je pars de loin (lol) mais ne dit-on pas qu'on apprend à tout âge ! Merci pour ces moments de musique que vous nous offrez en cette étrange période de confinement. Et avec l'ambiance sereine de votre église, ça doit être très favorable à la méditation spirituelle, et de penser au Don de Dieu, le Don du talent et de la musique. Merci encore.
