--------
In this clip, Ali explained how Nelly's solo career took off. Nelly was initially part of the St. Lunatics group, but his talent caught the attention of two music professionals from Harlem, one of them being former Mase manager Cudda. Cudda decided to work with Nelly alone, creating a demo album of just Nelly's verses. When this demo reached Universal, a deal was secured. Ali revealed that Nelly didn’t involve the group in his decision to go solo.

Right! Even if Universal did sign them as a group first Nelly still would’ve been the face of the group. This is still a business and he had the marketability, the “it” factor. so it wouldn’t have made that much of a difference lol.

@thetribesden1960 why though? I don't believe that. Labels are vultures and leeches. They seek the bottom line. If they have a chance to promote 3 or 4 platinum artists? They would do it. It's to thier benifit. And bottom line. The truth is, outside of Nelly and Murphy Lee, the rest of the group didn't have that demand. I feel like Ali thinks the chips should've always have fallen in his favor. And they never quite did. Even if Nelly didn't do anything else after 00, his talent alone wouldn't have shined.

Universal didn’t want the St Lunatics, They only wanted Nelly. They saw the potential in him, And Nelly wasn’t going to go through with the deal, But he had sum people in his corner that told him to not miss out on a opportunity, Sumbody has to get their foot in the door. And once he got on he put them on. And if we being real Murphy Lee was the only person out of that group that had the potential to be a star.

It was the country grammar single off the lunatics underground album in 1998 that made them choose Nelly as a solo artist. It was the hardest song on the album and the only song that Nelly was on by his self. My homeboy pretty Tony and his cousin trale from u City had the CD in the hood before most of the city even heard it. I knew off top he was going to get a deal off of that song the first time I heard it. That was 1997 1998. Murphy Lee also had a hot single on that same album.

Ali just sounds bitter. Nelly did everything he was suppose to do. It’s not like he got on and left the group in St Louis. @@jgibson8092 that makes no sense. If you wrote 80% of a damn album and essential was the reason the album went diamond, what the hell you need Nelly for? He did not write 80% of no damn album. He contributed to an album the same way death row, cash money, and every other camp did for their star. Snoop, Dre, Juvenile, and Pac did the same. Whenever an album comes out every one donates to the album. But nobody Daz, Kurupt and Wayne them don't comeback and take credit for the whole damn album. You can hear Nelly flow is completely different than Ali's. The cadence, the temper and delivery. Do I think he might have contributed a couple of rhymes to Nelly, yes, but nobody listened to Nelly for rhymes. That was the weakest part of his package. It was his delivery and flow. Ali sound fake as hell to come out now when they beefing for 3 years and all of sudden he essentially wrote everything and takes sole credit for a group's whole album. What an asshole. It’s a hard pill to swallow when you dog out ya lil homie and the rolls reverse. The moral of this story is do unto others as you want others to do unto you. Honestly Ali should be grateful that Nelly was solid enough to keep them boys around because realistically any fame the St. Lunatics got from the outside looking in was because Nelly over delivered and was in position to call shots. Nelly was the marketable one, just face facts. We gotta stop doing this in our culture, everybody can’t be the star. We all need good role players, another moral of the story.

Any member had the resources and platform of nelly to do whatever they wanted to do. Not just in music but buisness and all that. The thought of if Nelly doesn’t do this solo deal, they would’ve continued to keep grinding in the early 2000s with no national success. The label took a shot at him & after the success of Country Grammar, he pushed y’all in front to drop the group album. Your song was the main song for the Osmosis Jones movie. If Ali felt a way at the time then he should’ve just left the group. You was all in the videos & had featured verses. He himself couldn’t find solo success so you gonna hate on the man that put a spotlight on the whole city? Ali just ungrateful

I just heard Nelly whole side of the story let me save y’all some time……Ali was still in that bad publishing deal that they all signed when the record company owned 100% of their publishing in 97 or whatever yr but when country grammar came out Nelly was the only one to buy his publishing back for $75,000 that he didn’t have universal paid for it….so when it came to Ali admitting to writing some of the songs on country grammar he didn’t say anything because of the company he was signed too back in the day still owned 100% of his publishing therefor they would get paid for his part of the publishing on “Country Grammer” so basically he is mad at Nelly because he feels he should basically had paid him under the table….but this the tricky part Ali was in a rush to sign that bad deal back in the day and Nelly signed it last because he was skeptical knowing it was bad business but still signed it but had to buy his way out of it later on down the line….now Ali is coming out saying he wrote it all which may be true but Nelly not denying that he had a part of writing on the album basically Ali is butt hurt I’m sure he made more than enough off Nelly from 03-2018 he just in his feelings because they fell out😂💯

Most people who understand business know how to seperate their friendship from business. And they usually surround themseves around people they are more business savvy over. So when anything ever comes up about seperating they have more knowledge on what to do to prosper. Maybe nelly was wrong to a certain degree, but none of us were there to witness it. What i can say it all of the group members had other doors that were open for them after the group split up because they were associated with nelly. At this point yes you can point fingers and be right, but you still need to take some accountability for not using your fame to open up your own doors for yourself.

And when it comes to a group with a group member who is the most outgoing, attractive, confident AND talented, the other group members expect that person to not go out a get something for him or her. They are banking on being carried by that individual. In addition when it comes to a group, there is always that 1 member that goes harder.
