You make it sound like it's difficult. while it isn't at all. I almost only know people who do a lot of useful (to them or to others) and fulfilling things in life. they don't earn a lot of money from it, but that's not their motivation either. (for example: I know quite a few volunteer red cross workers who put in a lot of hours for nothing, besides working a full time job, having a family, keep a active social life and besides all that also do some painting, writing, reading, or some other quite but still productive activity) it's really not that uncommon. Earning a lot of money from it is more uncommon. Most people in the world will never be able to get that much money even if they worked just as much. But most don't have that ambition, they just want to feel fulfilled and doing makes you feel fulfilled (at least more fulfilled then dreaming about doing or worse dreaming about having). Once you get in a rythm of doing it's remarkably easy to keep doing and eventually you will look at your life and maybe be amazed at what you actually do (allthough this is offcourse within the boundaries of your own limitations. for some only doing one thing is in their capability - due to a chronic illness for example. but if that's the most they can do, then they are just as productive as this guy, even though he will be able to do more things. still what he does is not that incredible for a healthy person, and very much doable. - not that I want to diminish his efforts for getting to this point in his life, but I just want to point out that it's something I see many people do, allthough they might not get into any spotlight ever in their life.) A human being loves doing, creating and exploring possibilities, it's due to social limitations and negative thoughts that some get caught up in an unproductive circle. (like focusing to much on an end result or a potential negative outcome. you can do more when just focusing on doing the things you like to do and take the downfalls as such part of the journey) oh so cliché :) . but in the end it's a valuable cliché.

I'm a graphic designer/social media strategist, and honestly, the social media came later to me as a means to have a steady income. I literally work once every 10 days, for about 8-10 hours, schedule everything at night, and have the next 10 days off. Meet monthly with the clients to show them my face, wine/dine and then say bye to them for the next month. Some clients I haven't seen in 4 months, but their work keeps rolling. The staff I hire works remotely from whatever location they choose, so no office expenses. It has truly been the most freeing experience of my life, I can vacation when I want, I read all day or write, or paint, or sketch. So yes, going into a viable business by studying your market and having a knack of something is absolutely the key that will set you free from the 9-5.

It's actually interesting to hear a doctor's perspective on entrepreneurship. I worked as admin under doctors for years and kind of wished I had a window into how they managed long hours and difficulties specific to the medical field; it'll be interesting to hear how you walked through entrepreneurial challenges. I'm glad you got over the kind of stereotyped idea, the self-absorbed, narcissistic, arrogant individual who has their own-named website, because a unique perspective will definitely be a refreshing change; sometimes entrepreneurship can appear a little cliche'd, so an atypical entrepreneur might be pretty relatable for some. Definitely gave me some food for thought.

I hope it will also help me to overcome any doubts and fear when it comes to finally get my blog and KZfaq channel running. I have set up both 2 years ago, when I decided to go back to school in my mid-30’s to finally finish my physics degree, and I wanted to share my experience along the way. But it is going very slow primarily because I am still in the state of doubt in regards to putting myself out there. Thank you very much for this video and your channel in general!

Just wanted to tell you that I really enjoy your videos which I stumbled across accidentally. I am a 42 yr old single mum and had no idea what I wanted to do in terms of career except I knew I wanted to be a mum. Now my kids are 11,13 &16 and I want to do something I enjoy, so I've just enrolled into Uni doing a double degree in Business and Commerce and Science ( phycology major). I really am trying to figure out how to best be productive as I also homeschool one of my daughters and considering doing the second child next year. As you can imagine, I seriously have to be organised. I am still working out if I want to use, good notes, onenote, Evernote for note taking. I can only stream my lectures so I don't think I can add them into an app. I think it will be trail and error figuring it out, just know it's gotta be straight forward as I have a lot to learn and do. I am considering of doing my own KZfaq channel to share with others that even if you get to middle age there is nothing wrong to going after your dreams. I am grateful your sharing your content, so thanks so so much.

Sota Maehara I believe it’s the weird balance in Universe, if there’s a God he must’ve had a lot of fun when he created the Earth. Have you notice that the best beaches and amazing nature are present in poor;/ poorer countries? Or is it a chicken and egg dilemma ? I don’t know, I feel like the most developed countries do not have anything close to how amazingly beautiful Thailand and so many other countries have ,gorgeous DR , beautiful St Lucia and so many others etc. So developed countries dream about living on a beach In Thailand and for you that’s routine , again , funny God 😆

I loved your selection of books Ali. Pesonally I'll give it a try to "Show your work", i guess i am also a person who enjoys imagining and getting involved with new projects and working hard on them, also not as good at sharing them.. so you convinced me. !... Thanks, and keep posting insider knowledge about entrepreneurship and productivity, those are amazing!..

Thank you for this video! Totally relate to the Four Hour work week! I need to revisit that. Thank you also for helping me realise the answer to the most surprising question I've ever been asked about myself. I now get it that it's because of all the books, content, and thoughts that have been percolating over the years. Will definitely up my note taking game. Great work!

Ali Abdaal I just read your post, and, while its fine, it doesn't really answer the question - you talk about how we should make sure our long term goals are worth it and how we should be happy in the now. But then the post just ends, without you actually saying how. Maybe you answer in the interview, but I don't have 50 minutes, could you simplify it for us?

Ali Abdaal very wise insight. I never had a mentor in my life. Started reading self help books since 11 years, but I look up to you for wisdom. How do you cope with personal negative traits like envy and anger? BTW, I loved the book of The courage of being disliked. Thanks.
@roho4373
@roho4373 4 жыл бұрын
@@manunoatay Anger and Envy come from comparing yourself with others. For 1 week try to become better than who you were the previous day. Every day Compete/Compare not with others. But with yourself. And also being mindful to engage in positive behaviors and not engage in negative behaviors such as being vengeful, jealous, petty, nit picking, gossiping etc Make weekly goals and start a daily Journal to track your goals. Before sleep, write down in your journal: 1. what you accomplished today 2. what are your plans for tomorrow that will help you reach your goals for the week. 3. how you think you are a better today compared to yourself the previous day After you wake up in the morning: 1. Review what you wrote down the previous night. 2. Take action only on the biggest item you have planned for today. Don't do anything until your biggest item is completed. After 7 days, review your journal of notes for the past week. If you find value in the activity. Continue.
