What I love about every story of Elvis is that whoever it is telling it, everyone always talks about him like he is above them. No matter who it is, whoever talks about meeting him does so in awe. I cant think of a single celebrity who would be able to talk of meeting Elvis for the first time as if they were more famous than him.
@KittyKittyBangBang249

There was no one more recognized than Elvis. A musician that wasn’t really a fan of his was able to do a stand in session to get some songs out and he said when he walked in the room it made his knees weak. He was so charismatic. And every single time Elvis would go to people stick his hand out to shake their hand and say “hello, I’m Elvis Presley “. He needed no introduction obviously but he always remained humble. To be that good looking and that talented and remain completely humble? It would NEVER happen in today’s world. Nobody can match his voice anyway. Not even close

The only possible one I could think of would be Muhammad Ali, and that's because my sister once described meeting him as "being in the presence of magic." Ali wasn't even having a particularly good day, Parkinsons-wise, but still he was humble and kind and just radiated charisma. When Alice is describing his meeting and saying "He was ELVIS," it reminds me of my sister meeting The Greatest. He was just ALI.

When he says "He was ELVIS", I think he really says it all. Elvis was genuine and not some fake guy in front of the camera or audience. He was himself and didn`t play a role. And there is not one single person that has ever met Elvis that did not like him. He was something special.

Just brings tears in my eyes when someone tells about Elvis. Elvis was something that no one else has never been and never will be. He was Elvis thin or fat, nothing could diminish his striking inner light and charisma. I think it was totally stupid to talk about "fat Elvis". Someone might say "the flower stick Alice Cooper".

He didn't get overweight until about 1974-75. Up to that point he was the darling of the world. People would pass out just looking at him. Guys wanted to be him. Women wanted to bed him. His persona will never be matched. He was absolutely amazing. Looks, voice and style. He had it all.

Thank you for setting the record straight. At earliest late 1974 and at latest mid-1975. Also for everyone to remember is that he slimmed down again for in late 1976 (and late December 1976 could be considered another unofficial comeback).
@Intheshed123

Elvis still looked fine in 74 and 75! Maybe 10-15 over weight but nothing serious. Mid 76 is when it got out of control. He was very sick and needed help. He wasn't gonna get it from Ginger, a 25 (whatever) year old girl. Obviously, I truly believe there is way, way more to the last year of his life then the public will ever know about. All we know is the tip of the iceberg. PEACE...

okie musgogee, I couldn't remember his weight for late 74 and 75. I'm a big Elvis fan. I haven't seen any photos of that era lately. He still had AWESOME performances through early 76 and even then during late December 1976.

@@Intheshed123 He's gaining weight too quickly. His physical condition was very poor. 1972-74 165-168 lbs 1974-75 200 lbs 1976-77 255-300 lbs (P.S. more information from Elvis's stepbrother)

@@sanchan20018 Elvis was never even close to 300 pounds. Its BS. Google pictures from 1976-77 and see all the pictures of him on stage. A bit stumach and swollen face, but still thin. Elvis reportedly weighed 230 when he died.

In an age where celebrity is thrown around so much and applied to anyone and everyone who so much as has a few minutes of fame, one cannot always gauge what it meant to be a celebrity in the age of Elvis. Elvis was a proper celebrity; he was a movie star, a rock star, and a presence unlike any other. This was a man who became so beloved, he defined a genre of music.

You can tell that Noel is impressed, because he doesn't crack any jokes until after the story has been told, he asks a sincere question. Mind you, it's pretty cool they got Alice Cooper to host Buzzcocks that one time, it means each of the people on those panels that episode not only met Alice Cooper, but met a guy who met Elvis, a musician who defined a genre and was, let's be honest, a legend.

I can tell you why Elvis did that, and I happen to be qualified to speak on the matter. Elvis thought Alice was trying to portray himself as a badass, and wanted to show him what the real thing was. Whether it was the right or wrong thing to do, it's not for us to judge. It's rock and roll history and has now entered the halls of legend.
