I think people just have a hard time accepting that it's a new AIC. I don't really care for the new stuff either as I'm stuck in the stuff I grew up on with them. With that being said, it's to no blame on William's part. He is very talented and has opened a new chapter for them. For me it's the same reason why I can't really listen to Metallica anymore either, the music just changed too much.

its not that we dont like him...hes talented absolutely...but as an AIC purist, i cant listen to Layne, and then him. it just doesnt work
@puppetmaster85513 жыл бұрын
@@richarddutton1981 ya I’m not on board with that, Jerry sings leads on the majority of their material, you guys were all fine listening to Jerry written and led songs when Layne was still alive but now all the sudden Jerry singing leads is not good enough. Shit is whack. I will never agree with not supporting Jerry/Sean/mike because Layne is gone, Jerry is the one who wrote most of the music, if Layne was the lead writer then it’s understandable but that wasn’t the case. They’re a different band now but they are still a very good band and as long as Jerry is around writing the music and singing they will continue to be a good band. If William was the lead vocalist then maybe I’d understand that perspective more but it’s Jerry who is the actual frontman on the majority of their new material not William, you don’t wanna listen to will sing old songs live then fine so be it but there is no reason to to listen and support songs Jerry wrote that he sings as well, it’s no different to songs he fronted when Layne was around

This is right up there with what makes me love the dark, grim reality of what made AIC and makes them a force a force of fucking nature. Dark, sad lyrics that if you know the story of this band, or am a combat vet like me whose head is fucked up from the shit we had to deal with, this one really gets to you, me personally. Duvall in my eyes knows exactly the shoes he had to fill, and will never be a true replacement. He fits in better with this outfit than any other current signer I can think of. They carry on his legacy just as Metallica carries Cliff’s. Similar tragedies but the fans and bands themselves keep each these two alive. It’s a beautiful thing. Staley’s touches home, like I’m sure millions of others are touched.

This song is both beautiful and painful at the same time. It hurts because I know this is Jerry's goodbye to Layne...and it's also beautiful because it's Jerry's goodbye to Layne. "Tomorrow's Forcing a goodbye." Is the line that got me. I had a good friend of mine commit suicide not long ago, and the reality is when you lose someone like that to a drug overdose or hanging themselves...those of us left behind understand these words. It doesn't matter how or what method the person leaving too soon left...it just matters that it's a reminder that tomorrow is promised to no one...and that some times tomorrow's force a goodbye that was unexpected. And it's those unexpected death's that sometimes hit harder than the one's we are expecting...because it's the unexpected death's that remind us just how fragile life is... AIC will never sound the same without Layne, but I'm not hating on Duvall like many of you are...because there's no one that could ever replace Layne. I am, however, glad that AIC is making music again.

in september/october i lost three of my family members and another in november. after my cousins funeral we all sat outside and listened to this and shared a joint in his memory. i can’t ever listen to this song without it reminding me of one of the hardest times in my life. so beautifully written, but goddamn is it a tear jerker.

No better tribute to Layne than this. I lost both my brother and my best friend of 30 years to addiction. Nothing makes me remember them more than this. Bill , Sean, I love and miss you more than you'll ever know.

I just watched a video on that, which was just released by a dude who does these pieces on the grunge musicians . . . mostly focusing on AIC. it was about 50 minutes long, and it explains very well why no one could save Layne. He had such a loving and supportive family. It is so sad. His mom explained why no one could help him very well. Layne needed to withdraw from the music industry and take like a three year sabbatical . . . he was SO young when he started using, and fame happened so fast. The music industry can be very sleazy and predatory. Layne couldn't take that three year sabbatical because he had contracts, and felt the pressure of a 40+ person payroll all depending on him to sing, and he was a good man. So he felt this pressure. All of the rehabs were happy to accept the checks, but had no policies in place to support relapses. Putting a young man back into the shark tank before he learned how to deal with sharks . . . well, this is what led to his death. Layne was in rehab many, many times. The sad thing is that if he had gone to rehab for a longer time, and learned how to deal with the triggers and intensity of what he was dealing with, he would still be with us. He didn't want to die. He loved his family . . . his genetic family, and his brothers in the band. Everyone says he was literally the most hilarious band member, and so light hearted. His mother said if he hadn't gone into the music industry and done some kind of regular job, she would not love him one iota less, and that he is with her every moment of the day. That is the kind of son he was. He was also a very dear brother. It's such a huge loss. If the industry had supported him in taking a sabbatical, he would likely be playing today with them . . . it took them almost a decade to come back after he withdrew from public life and gave up.

Awesome performance. I can't imagine how hard it is to sing a song live about your best friend that left this earth too early. Rest in peace Layne.

kzfaq.info/get/bejne/erWcmbVe2a6ldJ8.html having seen this video and knowing how much Layne meant to Jerry it really makes this song hit even harder. Jerry and Sean really loved Layne and I’m glad all these later they’re still respectfully honoring him and his legacy. I’m very glad Jerry was able to overcome his own demons and get cleaned up so he is still around today, wish Layne would’ve been able to do the same.

Stevie Ray Vaughn said it best, We all need to take care of each other. But, to take care of each other we need to take care of ourselves first. Drugs are a one way street to nothing and I was going down that street. Cause, You see, drugs take away all the LOVE. You stop loving your self and can't see the love coming from anyone else.

I met this band in 1990, superb 1st LP..... I was very interested in the "grunge movement".... And I listened to "Alice" 2002 a lot....huge sadness, "that" voice will no longer be there. Layne was a truly great singer, fate would have it otherwise. 22 years ago, part of my youth went with him. Wherever you are, you have to sing again, with Ronald Belford Scott, Kurt, Chris Cornell, and so many others. Thank you for your presence, too short on this land.

One of the most emotional songs ever and one of AIC’s best. Jerry is a genius. I also can believe it’s been 11 years, it’s crazy

I can't listen to this song when Lily Cornell sing it. I will never get over her Father's death or Layne. They were my favorite from that era. It defined and shaped my youth, when no one understood me, their music did. I'd run to my room, crank their music, and shut the evil, cruel, hateful world out. #GrungeForever.
