Yeah, one of my favorite quotes about Staley's power was from Barrett Martin ,drummer(Screaming Trees, Mad Season) he said " Staley sang with such power that when he sang near you , you could feel the 'sonic shock wave',or whatever, progectimg from his chest...like the vibration of his voice was palpable"(paraphrased) ✌️😎

Was is Jerry, or Ann Wilson, that said his voice just vibrated off his body, like it was coming out of all of him, but yeah something to that effect

Well said. IMO, he's the greatest singer ever, but music is so subjective ,there's no wrong answer to "who's your favorite band/singer?"... AiC/Staley just happen to be mine..honorable mention to Chris Cornell/Soundgarden/Audioslave as close second...and Led Zeppelin/Allman Bros,Band...and ACDC/VanHalen....and Metallica/Megadeth...and..🙄.. STFU!...😅🤙

I don't think I've ever seen a bad Layne Staley performance. Shit, even their unplugged performance, in the midst of everything going on personally, was legendary. It's unfortunate that most really good rock and metal vocalists only really have a couple good growly, gritty vocal years (think Serj Tankian), just a limitation of all human vocal chords. Layne seemed to give it his all even past that point. Though to be honest I don't know anything about the proper method of singing, beyond knowing that there's a right and wrong way to do it.

I would present Mike Patton, not only can he sing anything anyone sings, he holds most of the world records, Layne is unique and he HAS IT, and not had, he is alive forever aslong as we listen. God i wanna hear Mike do this one, but I doubt he would, he probably leaves this one for Layne out of respect and admiration.

Dammmmmmnnnn!!! I've been an Alice in Chains fan for years, but I've NEVER Heard this song live till this very moment. I'm stunned... I've always loved Layne Staley (I named my son after him! Michael Làyne)Layne's voice was the most unique, powerful, haunting, chilling, incomparable, mesmerizingly , insanely soul reaching voice I've EVER had the pleasure of listening to. They say that although an immensely friendly, funny, kind, decent human being that Layne was, he was very sad, cuz of his father, and his demeanor was almost "timid",but I tell you, that man expressed himself with that voice, and Oh, the stories he had to tell Us!!!!. R.I.P Layne, and may reside happily in God's kingdom.

I've seen it a few times reviewed by "vocal coaches" which is a joke when they critique it giving a sample of how "it should have been" with their voice I laugh so hard at them bc they think they're doing a better job than Layne Staley I mean c'mon man none of them can touch him as the old saying goes "those who can do, those who can't teach" Layne could (&"would", sorry had to put that in 😂)💕

It's fascinating and super cool how black people overwhelmingly have taken over the reaction space. We get to relive our love of this music through their fresh ears. Mad Season - Wake Up is amazing. Same singer, Layne Staley. AIC was such a big part of my life that I actually named my first born son Layne.

Got to see AnC and Layne in his healthy prime at the State theatre in Detroit in the early 90s. Such an amazing band and front man! Will never forget that night ❤️

Thank you for watching and listening to this live version. This song is so much better when you can see and feel his pain and also see and hear the power of Layne's voice. It came from his soul. One of the most amazing voices ever.

Got to admit Jamal I love the way that you react to music like this. It’s a pure reaction without the misguided judgement that a lot of people who will never fully appreciate the pure force that the music has. Layne is one singer from the 90’s ‘grunge’ scene who I didn’t get to see live but I wish that I had.
