@@puckarine Honestly would love for her to watch it alone, in the dark. Feel like that would give you the most genuine reaction. The Thing is amazing. Have you seen the remake as well? The Evil Dead would be a good movie to watch as well. So creepy, yet corny all at once.

@@c.t.1893 you mean the one in 2011? I haven’t seen it, but I hear it was a prequel rather than a remake, so it’s not off the table. But given what she said here, if we want her to give a straight up horror movie a chance, she may have to do it on her terms. Maybe she has another jumpy friend who also hasn’t seen it. Also maybe let her get in a few happy ones first, so she doesn’t get desensitized too soon.

Is the scary part over???? Repear throughout the movie. The cat represents pure evil. 1) Runs away, causing a crew member to look for it. Death ensues. Cat crouches under something and watches. Close up on those pitiless cat like eyes. 2) Ripley tries to escape in the pod and blow up 5he ship with the Alien left behind, but cat runs away and Ripley is forced to look for it, giving time for the Alien to get to the escape pod and hide. Hilarity ensues. 3) cat escapes hibernation chamber, resets navigation controls, therefore escape pod takes years to return, Ripley's daughter dies of old age. 4) Before going back to hibernation, cat takes a large dump in Ripley's chamber, causing Ripley unending nightmares on the way home. I will admit reasons 3 an 4 are speculative in nature, but as logical as this movie is.

Alien is one of the most perfect movies ever made. Perfect cast, perfect direction, perfect story, perfect score, etc... No CGI. Very hard to find flaws in it. And it's still good after all these years. BTW, when the alien explodes out of Kane, Veronica Cartwright's (Lambert) reaction was authentic, she wasn't acting. A pressure line that sprayed blood shot blood right into her face and she legitimately freaked. I loved her character because her fear seems so real. Fantastic performance by everyone.

An interesting fact about Lambert’s death and the nature of what took place, the subject of where the aliens tail was going has always been one people wondered about. Turns out if you watch the second movie and view closely at Lambert’s file, you’ll discover she was transgender. The alien you can learn from various media has no eyes and relies on scent and sound fro most of its sensory skills when killing. People have wondered why the alien violated Lambert the way it did and some fans theorize that it sensed Lambert was different and the mutilation of her genital area may confirm the alien was interested in her anatomy and why she was unique compared to its other victims. This is just a fan theory but terrifying to think of.
@Neorott
@Neorott Жыл бұрын
@@shanelogan630 Oh BULLSH**! Ridley Scott stated that both Ripley and Lambert were both originally cast as males, but decided to make them both females later on in the casting. Lambert was a female, period. Do I need to explain what a female is to you? Trans-whatever was not a thing till five minutes ago. It wasn't even a word in 1979. What James Cameron wrote in her file in 1986 was just to make the character interesting. They were goofing around. Ridley Scott himself has stated on camera that Lambert was sexually violated because she was a female. He raised the question of whether aliens have sexual urges. He said those exact words. The alien had grown inside a male.

Even though sequels were made, I still think the original film is the best. Especially because it is so small-scale (as you've said, just a single spaceship) and very grounded. An ordinary crew facing an utterly vile, extraordinary monstrosity. Sigourney Weaver was the unknown newcomer in the cast back when this premiered in 1979, so her being the last survivor was actually meant as a surprise ending for the audience. :-)

This reaction is awesome! If you consider this movie was released in 1979 and most of us got to watch it when we were kids because yes, ratings for audiences came way after. The movie has a few fun facts like the cast didn't actually know what would come out of Kane's chest, so their horror and surprise on screen was authentic. Kids and adults around the world were scared as heck with this creature. The ambience, the dim lights, the claustrophobic environment really gets you. And that's what makes a movie great. That it reaches you. Also Sigorney is acknowledeged to be one (if not the first) female heroes in movies. You just love her. As I loved your reaction to one of my favorite sagas.

I dont really understand what you are saying because the MPAF rated films for audiences in the USA and the BBFC for audiences in the UK from as early as 1910 so audience ratings most certainly existed when this movie was released. In the UK in 1979 in cinemas there was U (Universal), A (basically not recommended for people under 14), AA (14 Up only), and X (18 and over). Aliens was X rated in the UK. I remember this because I had a paper round and carried a radio with me and was gutted when I heard that I would not be able to see this movie in the cinema, I was 14 in 1979.

When the film was first released I was in my early 20s. An idiot, into hallucinogenic drugs. My friends and I decided to see it at the local theater high as heck. OMG, I had to leave the theater. My heart was racing, I thought I was going to have a panic heart attack. I never saw the whole movie until many years later.

This was my favorite film to watch at 9 years old. Still is today. I loved the scare sensation it transmits but the main reason of why it fascinated me it was because of the alien design. Giger was a true artist.

The sequel, Aliens, is less scary (but not without horror elements) and more of an action movie since it is directed by James Cameron.

@@jimmyc3755 it’s the difference between a suspenseful, nuanced, sci-fi horror thriller and an all out sci-fi horror action movie. I like both very much, but Alien is a much cleverer movie in concept and execution... Aliens is a great action movie but not particularly “deep”.

I am impressed that you persisted until the end. You were clearly terrified. Excellent observations about the ship. You are absolutely correct to point out its importance in creating the sense of claustrophobic inescapability. The aesthetic of eery hatch closures and flashing lights is a vital backdrop. The ship is vast and inhuman, an environment in which the alien can be at home as much as the crew.

My favourite film of all time. Every detail of this movie is exemplary. From the carbon dioxide expelled from the astronauts helmets, the dripping water on the peak of Brett's cap, and the electronic voice of Ash's disembodied head. Even though it's a slow build, not a second is wasted, and it portrays the hopelessness of isolation unmatched in cinematic history.

In terms of horror movies ... Aliens is not one. That is a much more actiony film. Alien ... this one ... is the only true horror film in the franchise. The rest is imo weak imitations solely created to attempt making money of it.

@@muhest Your right. The Alien is a truckers in space haunted house horror movie.Scared the shit out of me as a kid. I think of Aliens(director's cut) as the perfect science fiction film. The Colony, the company, the atmosphere processor, the marines, the queen, the pulse rifle, and the coolest group of side characters put in blockbuster.

@@muhest The brilliance of Aliens is it didn't re-do Alien. Every horror movie gets progressively less scary. Seeing the alien for the first time is scary. Seeing it for the 100th time? Not scary! So, turning the sequel into an action movie works. It feels different, but still connected to the universe, and a continuation of the story.
