Thanks to the high-quality upload, you can see the alien head and arm poking out at 0:23. Never knew about it until somebody pointed it out.

I always loved this explosion. It isn't particulary realistic but since it comes in three waves it seems like a whole world exploded. Ripley is shook bei the sheer wave of energy and light. She seems physically exhausted from it. It is, of course, not really the end. But it sure does the work to make you believe it could be (when you watch it for the first time).
