Today we’ll be discussing the surprising connection between James Cameron’s Avatar and the alien universe.

I did not expect at all that Avatar will be connected to Prometheus and the Alien franchise in general but apparently the official avatar script directly refers to the xenomorph and Prometheus. I'm a fan of James Cameron movies so it was really exciting to see that the alien franchise in which he directed one of the installments is connected to another franchise that seems to be one of his biggest creations. The avatar connection to the alien franchise leads to a few interesting question like are Engineer involved the Avatar universe and could they had something to do with the creation of Na’vi a humanoid race on Pandora? Despite the fact that both franchises seem to be very different, there are two solid points of evidence that alien and avatar are in the same universe. If you’re interested in Avatar I actually have another channel where I discuss everything related to Avatar, so feel free to check it out.
Before I reveal two details proving the connection between avatar and alien, It's worth to point out how weirdly similar both franchises are.
Both alien and avatar are set in somewhat distopian future controlled by corporations. In avatar the civilization on Earth is on the brink of collapse which is similar to the situation in the alien franchise where earth is extremely to be polluted and almost completely destroyed as evident in one of the deleted scenes of alien resurrection. Another similarity is that in both franchises there are corporations that are particularly interested in space exploration and profiting from it.
It is also really interesting that Sigourney Weaver who plays the main lead in the alien franchise is also the main lead in Avatar of 2009 and continues to be one of the main characters in avatar the way of water and subsequent avatar sequels.

Context is very important. The script was describing a creature in the Avatar universe. The T Rex and Alien were just references. James Cameron was telling the studio what the creature was like. He never said that the Xenomorph was in the same universe as Avatar.

Yeah, that was definitely just aside text for the reader's understanding. And two ships being named Prometheus isn't a connection. I'd say a bigger connection would be how easily the RDA corp would fit into the mega corps of the Alien universe. It looks like it could rival Weyland-Yutani.

That’d be the last bite they ever took, we would need some serious CGI to show us what acid blood does to the face 😂 lmao. It could also just be that the Alien franchise exists within the Avatar universe and the script is just Jake making a popculture reference. Many technical aspects make no sense if they are both in the same universe. For example, LV-426 is 39 lightyears away from earth and Dallas states that they need 6 more months to get home, while Pandora is less than 5 lightyears away and it takes humans almost 6 years to get there.

Could be the same universe but set in different time periods. Bladerunner takes place before the events of Alien. But the whole "earth is dying" would work in tandem with the Mega corps on Pandora

The reason “the world is dying” in avatar is because Skynet was partially successful in causing judgement day. Even though a large majority of the world’s population survived being nuked the resulting irradiation of most of earths arable land and fresh water cost humanity greatly. The humans have no choice but to conquer Pandora for its resources or cull half of the adult population to prevent mass starvation. Tell me that my head canon wouldn’t have made “Avatar 2 Whaling Bugaloo” a lot more nuanced and interesting.

Not sure if this makes sense with the timeline, but…. What if after Prometheus, the Engineers go after David, David unleashes aliens, and humans try to weaponize the aliens while surpassing their makers-the Engineers to come out on top. This results in a Blade Runner future where our androids now turn on us (justifying the perceived prejudice of Engineers to AI in Prometheus), but we defeat them too. 😅 Humans. The humans always win. Go team.

This is interesting because when I went to go see the first Avatar movie I was thinking in my head that the human colonizers remind me of the Space Marines in the Alien series. This would also mean that Avatar is in the same Universe as Blade Runner.

If 'Avatar' and 'Aliens' are set in the same universe, I have to wonder if there's a relationship between the RDA and Weyland-Yutani, and if the latter found alternative sources of unobtainium- or even a substitute, the way steel is used in place of titanium when the latter is in short supply.

If Avatar is set in both Alien and Predator universe, then it's something to do with Awa as just one of the Engineers' creation before her children turn against her creators when she realizes they decided to kill her because they considered her as an "abomination", and thanks to Pandora's dangerous fauna, toxic atmosphere, and jungle terrain, this would've consider a good hunt for the Yautja.

The script is just using it as a point of explanation to the reader. He could have said it could take King Kong ,but that doesn't mean King Kong exists in universe. Now if he said it feeds on Aliens or has killed Aliens then that's different.

I completely disagree. This information was provided for the reader of the script, to give an idea. T-Rex and the Alien are two well-known predators, which everyone knows as dangerous and horrifying. That is why he used them in the script. If your argument is true, then we'd need to assume that Jurassic Park is also the same universe, because T-Rexs are dead for a long time now and only in the Jurassic Park franchise have been alive again. Prometheus is a mythological figure. There are several real life ships named after him. You reference in the PRoject 880 script names the ship "ISV Prometheus". ISV (Interstellar Vehicle? International Space Vessel?) is not an acronym we encounter in the alien universe. USS, USCSS, etc. are used. There is indeed a very good hint that it is not the same universe. All technology is vastly different. We don't see pulse rifles, etc. Also we see the US Marines and not colonial marines. No Weyland-Yutani, etc. No, it is not the same universe.

I think the comparation to the Alien is like a reference to the fact that the alien movies exist in the avatar universe. Also the Prometheus thing could be the fact that he thought of naming it that cause the God Prometheus gave humans fire to help them just like this planet could have given them a home to save them. but then some producer or smt could have came and mentioned that there already is a movie about an Earth dying, set in space with aliens and humans battling each other and it could get mixed up by the fans so that is why it got changed. not a bad theory but I think it is a bit far fetched

The structures on Pandora are in the shape of magnetic fields. What Cameron is implying is the fields in this part of Pandora are unique or strong enough to cause magnetically susceptible stone to form in the shape of the invisible field, much like iron filings do in real life. Somehow the field maintained the shape long enough for the stone to fuse over time and thus create these structures. You can also see these shapes on the Sun in real life as the coronal flares are blown up by giant magnetic bursts and flare in the shape of the fields. This is also further hinted at by the floating rocks and land masses that are in the very same area. Some for of magnetic field is keeping these stone structures aloft. Humans, plants and animals don't float because we aren't magnetically susceptible. Navi did not build these, nor is it implied.

I mean, when it is said "Alien" on the script it could be intended to mean an alien creature to us humans. That's not a direct connection to the Xenomorph. But what we can assume with 100% certainty is that some type of advanced species was on Pandora before the Navi (geometric stone structures). If it was the Engineers we will never know.

As I was watching Avatar 2 I started seeing the same connection. Blade runner, Aliens, and Raised by Wolves universe all center around humans pushing out into the galxay from a depleted Earth. Awa (I can't remember the spelling) in Avatar is just like "God" in Raised by Wolves where everything on the planet is connected. Now with hearing Aliens were mentioned in the script really confirms it all. Great video 💪🏽

Sorry, the first argument ist just kinda weak. I do think that the intention of mentioning "Aliens" is a hint by the writers. But superficially its still just a popculture reference. Like, they might have mentioned "Zombies" as well, and nobody would assume that Avatar and the Walking Dead share the same universe. But still I do think you might be up to something as the "Prometheus" ship and the appearance of Sigourney Weaver are both heavy, "in your face" hints. I dont think its the same universe as Sigourney Weaver obviously plays two different characters. But the Avatar Movie definitely has to be watched and understood in relation or rather before the background of the Alien franchise, its motives, themes and mythology.

I'm not really convinced by this. I think the first example of the Alien being mentioned in the script was simply meta-commentary by the writers to convey to art and visual effects department the power and ferocity of the thanator. I also think that the second example of the ship being named Prometheus is simply James Cameron paying homage to Ridley Scott.

Interesting theory, though I don't buy it. All the reasons you list for how the Engineers could've designed the Na'vi to interact with everything on Pandora also applies to their having naturally evolved there. Additionally, "the Alien" mentioned in the script likely is a Xeno from Alien series... but it seems to be a reference for those making the movie, and not a line as though the characters in the film would know that reference.

another point is that the ruins of a industrial race which seems to be destroyed looks like an act of engineers themselves.. similar to how they wanted to cultivate a higher spiritual consciousness on earth with jesus but when humans failed they wanted to destroy them. Na'avi seems highly spiritually advanced in terms of biological computation and intelligence... this race really sounds like a race engineers would want to artificially select for.

I am 1000 liker of this video! Alien, Predator,Prometheus, Terminator and Bladerunner are in the same vein as Avatar, not so much as the same universe.But Avatar is the suppose apex combo of all these movies and everything James Cameron either made or had a hand in. The next Avatar moves are supposed to be where the hunt begins in the flames of war. Sounds kickass really, but I will believe it when I see it. That's just my two cents.

LOL, this is not true at all. I mean lmao. 'The alien' was referring to the actual alien creature it was hunting. Meaning, it is so ferocious, and has such high metabolism, that it could eat a T-Rex (which are extinct and don't live on the Navi planet anyway), which is not only a beast of an animal, after finishing that huge beast, it would still be able to eat that big hammerhead animal - an alien - 'for dessert'. This is NOT at all in anyway connecting Avatar to the Xeno world. LMAO. Also, that 'Avatar tiger' is in no means less dangerous or ferocious than a frigging Xenomorph. LMAO. The Xeno would teabag the Avatar tiger a hundred times before it would even be able to land a scratch.

If the original Ellen Ripley is a clone of Augustine then it's absolutely possible, because clearly the Alien movies are later on after Earth completely dies and in Avatar Earth is simply dying. It's a fun concept to explore when James Cameron gets desperate for cash but I doubt it will ever be more than fanfiction

Honestly don't think these franchises are linked. It's just the director and his company developing ideas off older ideas. It's fun to think about, but it's not convincing, just because the Alien was referred to in an Action paragraph in an early script.

This would be cool. But even if it is, there seems to be your logic about Na’Vi not being local to the planet. Since they can connect to other animals with their tales then it’s obviously a massive sign that they are evolved in that planet. Alien mention was probably a comparison mention not direct connection. But it certainly would be cool. If there was a crossover between Alien, Predator and Avatar that would be the biggest blockbuster potential movie of all time.

The facehugger in 'Alien' can implant the chestburster into any host, allowing the resulting xenomorph to survive in the any environments its host can. As the Engineers created the xenomorphs, it's trivially easy for them to create the Na'vi with the necessary adaptations to survive on Pandora. "If there was a crossover between Alien, Predator and Avatar that would be the biggest blockbuster potential movie of all time." Yes- IF the scriptwriter is competent, and gives the audience the action we expect, instead of wasting time on environmentalist propaganda disguised as philosophy.

Sorry Kroft but James Cameron has clearly different view on xenomorphs compared to Ridley Scott one’s, In James Cameron’s eyes xenomorph is just another bug like stupid brain less cheap ass monster but in Ridley’s eyes xenomorph is cosmic being that potentially threat to all life of universe. you need to separate Ridley’s one or James cameron’s one if you discuss about xenomorphs they are completely different leagues.

That creature looks a lot like the dogs in puppy form in predators and I would also throw terminator in here for the destruction of earth but rebuilt through blade runner
