"I'm not sure if I'm actually in danger right now" If I remember correctly, at the start of the game, waiting for the train, you actually ARE in danger. If you're too slow, make a lot of noise or even get unlucky, the Alien CAN show up, even that early in the game.

xeno is more physically capable and could probably see an invisible ariral anyway since they can rely on smell and hearing if it is needed. i dont think arirals would smell that good if they are alien cats…

This is why it's so hard to watch immersive sim LPs as someone who is extremely OCD and meticulous with how I play, I clear sectors in a very thorough and organized manner. Seeing a player like the librarian miss 50% of the items hurts my soul. I was getting hives when he missed the map at the start lol

The BEST advice you’ll ever get for this game is to: A: Forget that sprint exists. It’s like giving the Alien a GPS to your location. B: look EVERYWHERE, you’ll find better and better blueprints for things and they blend in with the environment. C: A again, NEVER sprint😂 Also this game is very forgiving when it comes to missing items, you will be able to go back to places you’ve already been for things you missed/things you couldn’t access in early game, and you’ll want to😊

1:36:49. This is by far my favorite scare in this entire game. They just introduced the Working Joe's to you, as an unsettling, uncanny valley, non-threat. You walk into an enclosed room and pick up a tracker, which in the cutscene shows nothing on it. The game gives you back the controls and tell you how to pull it out, which still doesn't show anything on it making you think you're alone- You turn around and the Working Joe is just... There. No jumpscare stinger or sound cue, just there asking if you're lost... And then leaves. It's in character and plays at the uncomfortable vibe they give off, but more importantly it establishes right then and there: They do not appear on the Scanner. If they become a threat, you'll have to use your eyes.

That's all well and good but the Working Joes do show up on the motion tracker, you can see him on it immediately after the scare! The tracker is a motion based one, meaning something won't show up on it if it stands still, which is why it didn't pick up the Joe initially.

This game made in 2014 holds up 10 years later, and I'm almost certain it'll hold up in another ten. It'll always be terrifying, beautiful, and breathtaking.

dear librarian, just wanted to say thank you so much for the amazing videos. i use them all the time to focus while drawing and it's become a habit to listen to a video or two while trying to get to bed. im sure you hear it often now but your calm voice and insightful, smart commentary is such a delight and rarity!!!

Alien Isolation is a great game that portrays the original fear and tension of the first film in the saga (Alien / Alien the Eighth Passenger). I'm glad you played it. Then there is Alien Colonial Marines which is a more action-oriented game like the second movie (Aliens/Alien Returns). Greetings.

You are probably already aware of it, but another game I'd recommend for you to play that has similar vibes to this (to some extent) would be "Still Wakes The Deep". It's eldritch horror set on an oil rig in the middle of the north sea. Big recommend!

Isolation on hard difficulty has this stupid caveat: You might as well unbind the run key because running for even just 0.5 second would agro everything in a zone, even in areas where the alien is otherwise only passively lurking in the vents rather than patrolling them. All it really does is turn the game into a walking slog. It also unlocks all the alien's "adaptive difficulty" behaviour right off the bat, on lesser difficulties the alien doesn't start off having as aggressive of an AI and would unlock certain behaviours if you do certain stuff, but the hard mode just throws it out of the window by having it all be unlocked immediately.

EDIT: I misremembered, the alien on nightmare difficulty is great fun, just the lack of resources to do anything but sit there is a little annoying. Hard has good resource balance. my only issue with hard difficulty (and maybe nightmare as well) is the complete lack of tools they give you. resources become so rare that you can only craft a couple necessary items. if they had the difficulty of the alien but all the resources of normal, i think it would be even better than the amazing game that it currently is.

The reason "Hard" is the recommened difficulty for a first experience of the game rather than "Nightmare", is that on nightmare you have no maps and an important piece of equipment is broken. A challenge to play through later, but a bit unfair on a first run.

I am already enjoying this So SO much. You have such a deep appreciation for the material, it’s downright inspiring. I can’t stomach the movies themselves, but I’ve seen loads of clips, and lets plays of this game. I’m a designer, and the creature design of the xenomorph makes me giddy. It’s perfect. I believe this creature can survive in space, and it is deeply unsettling. Primal. It’s phenomenal. Small fun fact, last I heard (so this might be outdated info), most of the ships in orbit and the International Space Station’s tech is actually quite retro. These vessels take forever to build, and at the time, 60’s-80’s tech was the best they could do. So, most ships in orbit look… well… not *terribly* dissimilar to this :)

Might be a bit early, but a fun bit of knowledge to know is that this game had a sequel(I think) in the form of Alien: Blackout. It was a fnaf esque game, where you had to help 4 (if I remember correctly) people survive on a station, and at the same time protect yourself from the alien. It was one of those games where you had to tell people to hide, and go to certain places to complete tasks so you all would live. The "Blackout" part was basically just a time limit. Fail to do whatever the task was within a certain time, and all the power goes out with death coming not long after. It was a mobile game however, and was also taken down from all app stores 2 years ago.

I'm so excited to watch this series!! 🙌🏻 Don't forget to check each area really well for new schematics (for smoke bombs, flash bang etc) and the white computer looking screens are maps so you can see more of the area you are in! I've seen many creators miss those things and have to backtrack to find them!

30:26 & 1:29:29 those big glowing white diagonal panels leaning against the wall are map terminals. They blend in too well with the environment but they're critical to notice and utilize if you want to make it through this game. A lot of people completely miss them because of how well they blend in. You'll be visiting areas multiple times so it's important to find the map terminals the first time. 1:13:48 leaving the area and saving after picking up the Security Access Tuner actually softlocks your save into a _really_ difficult situation. The game wants you to stay in the area and avoid the people, because if you leave it becomes difficult to re-enter without being seen. Not sure why they designed the game like this, it traps so many people. I'm impressed you managed to figure out a workaround with a flare at least, I didn't expect that to work on Hard.
