@@x_trio_3_po333 Norman Osborne is a tough case too. Yeah, things "went south" with him big time in the end and he was overwhelmed by his own ambition. However, in my estimation, at least somewhere along the way, even after he'd made it big, he meant well (or something near it), but was corrupted by horribly failed super tech. Not nearly as tragically so as Otto Octavius, but, he definitely wasn't as repulsive as Burke either. Burke, though, we don't have his backstory, has the feel of someone who was a dedicated self serving weasel from go.

@@NoctemAeternusMusicYou're absolutely right. However, given that Jones was indisputably a corporate villain, I mentioned him. And it was Bob Morton's weaselly behaviour that actually gave us Robocop. Plus, Morton was a fatal victim of corporate greed and ambition, thus making him less of a villain.

Great reaction! ❤I have every Bill Paxton line of dialog from this movie memorized! I recite the lines with the movie every time I rewatch (which is often) I'm still missing Bill Paxton: Terminator (1984), Aliens (1986), Predator 2 (1992) True Lies (1994), Apollo 13 (1995), Twister (1996), Titanic (1997) and much more. 5:01 Traumatic loss is a defining trait of the backstory of _every_ compelling protagonist. I typically figure the loss of a _parent_ is enough. It's so much worse, though, when it's the loss of one's _child._ Leave it to sci-fi to arrange circumstances under which the protagonist loses their child by having the child die of old _age._

5:08 "So did the sleep chamber keep her looking _young?"_ It's not a sleep chamber, Journey. It's something _much_ more sophisticated; a _stasis_ chamber. You go in there and you stop experiencing the passage of time. Not only do you become unconscious, but you stop needing to eat, hydrate, expel waste, and breathe. Your metabolic processes cease and your metabolic _needs_ disappear. Not only did she not perceive time with her _senses;_ she stopped experiencing _entropy._ Ripley and her cat were the exact same age when they emerged that they had been when they went _in._ But for the rest of the universe, time went on.

Paul Reiser, the actor who played Burke, took his mom to watch the movie in the theater. She cheered when his character died. 😅 Carrie Henn, little Newt, loved sliding through the shaft so much she kept screwing the scene on purpose, so she could try it again. James Cameron obviously noticed and said she could go at it as much as she wanted AFTER they finished the scene. 😂 Btw, this was her only acting job. She became a schoolteacher. About Ripley's daughter, Amanda, there is actually a really cool game called Alien Isolation, set between both Alien movies. It's the story of Amanda trying to find what happened to her mother and instead, she finds... Well, you know.

I always found it interesting that despite Ripleys' fully justified contempt for Burke, that she nevertheless tried to save his worthless life when all the soldiers wanted him dead. She wanted Burke to face criminal justice and due process on earth in place of some quick vengeance on LV426. Though her motive maybe have been more about sticking it to the "Company" rather than out of any personal concern for Burke, the loyal Company man.

Everybody always says that. Because they have seen the 1ST MOVIE. Now look at it from a real life perspective. You are a mid level manager in a corporation. An employee has destroyed a very costly company asset. Why? Because of some fantastic story about a monster. There is no evidence of any such creature. There is nobody left from her crew to corroborate her account. There is no evidence of any indigenous life on that planet. People have been there over 20 years without finding any life forms or derelict space ship. The employee has obvious psychological problems. And most importantly, you can't assume she is telling the truth because you DIDN'T SEE THE 1ST MOVIE. How do you react? Just blindly believe her? I think VanLeuwen was irresponsible to even let Ripley go unrestrained on Gateway Station. Who knows what delusional threat she might dream up and then blow up the station and everyone on it. Same for the marines. They are trained and experienced military personnel (other than Gorman) who have fought alien threats before. This woman is former navigator on a cargo ship, now disgraced and reduced to fork lift operator. Why should they listen to her as if she knows more about what they do? Should our military chiefs of staff take their strategic advice from a Fox News anchor or a Taco Bell manager because he saw Platoon in a theater once? Why send the marines into the hive when they are all going to die? Because nobody has any reason to think they will die. They are trained, they are armed, and it is their job and their duty to go look for any surviving colonists. If a mob is holding some American hostages in Botswana, are we going to send the SEALS all the way there just so they can decide "nah, this is dangerous; screw it, let's just go home"?

Jump scares can be tricky. I remember, when I first saw the movie _Jaws,_ I saw _one_ jump scare. As intended, it scared the _hell_ out of me. It didn't piss me off, though, because it fit _perfectly_ with the circumstances. All too often, movies that rely on jump scares take to relying on nothing else which, I find, tends to cheapen the movie. But since then, I've watched several reactors react to _Jaws_ and they have three or four. 🤷‍♂

The sleep pods basically freeze them to save on resources for the long trip (using no oxygen or food) so Ripley was preserved without ageing as long as the sleep pod functioned. They call it hypersleep but it isn't really sleep in the conventional sense. That's why Parker suggested to "freeze" Kane with the face-hugger still attached so they could deal with it when they got back to Earth, which was probably a really good idea, but of course movies like stupid decisions to prevail.

There is two things I like to say. There was a deleted scene they left out. While going through the nest to save Newt, Ripley encounter Burke who was still alive but cocooned and impregnated. He tells Ripley to help him but all she did is give him a grenade and moved on. Around 2013 or 14, they made the game Alien Isolation where it takes places 11 years after Alien and 50 years before Aliens. You play as a 20 something Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley who travel to a space station to search for evidences about her mother's whereabouts but encounter an alien rampaging around the station and killing everybody in the station. Should play it to get a better understanding on the story and if horror games doesn't scare you.

6:40 "They aren't listening to her." "I hope the aliens come for their asses since they don't want to believe." Let's be reasonable here. Would you believe her? I mean, really, if a stranger you've never met comes up to you tomorrow at your job or in a store or whatever, and starts talking about a fire breathing dragon that she fought, and when she cut it, butterflies flew out of the cut because the dragons blood is made of butterflies. But, all the evidence disappeared when she killed it. Would you believe that person? Really? Ripley's story is so unbelievable that it's literally insane. 1. The alien has acid for blood that instantly dissolves metal. Impossible. The best acid made in Earthly laboratories would take hours, maybe days, to dissolve that much metal. And it cannot be contained inside flesh, inside veins and arteries and hearts and brains and lungs. it would destroy those. Also, acid doesn't carry nutrition (it destroys it) or oxygen, they real blood does so it is utterly useless as blood. If it could be genetically modified to do all the things blood does, it cou9ldn't dissolve metal like that. 2. The monster grew from the size of a rat to the size of a pony in a day. Nothing can do that. Growth requires food (it didn't have any) and it requires time. A baby horse starts out much, much bigger and takes 3 years to get that big and it eats thousands and thousands of pounds of food in that time. So it has magical blood and magical growing powers. That makes it a wonderful monster in a horror movie, a work of fiction, but not anything that a real person can believe. So it's very reasonable that those people in that meeting couldn't possibly believe this impossible story. Also, they've had people on that planet for 20 years with no monsters ever sighted which gives them another reason to disbelieve. Finally, as they said right here, there are over 300 colonized world with humans on them and nobody has ever seen anything like this. Not even close. With all those reasons to disbelieve, and not a single reason to believe this total stranger, do you really blame them? If you've read this far, then I just have one more point. Movie audiences, including me so I'm nobody special, we all love the main characters. We relate to them. Usually, we see the things that happen to them. We want everybody else in the movie to listen to them, trust them, an ddo everything the main character says because we love the character. But the real world doesn't work like that. People don't listen to random strangers, don't trust them, and definitely don't do what they say. Good script writers like the ones who wrote this movie make their side characters behave like real people. That's good writing. If these executives just believe her "All right crazy lady from the past, we believe every impossible thing you said without evidence" it would be silly and unrealistic. Let's give these writers credit for making believable characters here - characters that are not just more audience members that love Ripley.

Ash's body was destroyed by the surviving crew, but Ash secretly uploaded part of his AI into Nostromo's shuttle, Narcissus, and escaped with Ellen Ripley. Chris Hooper eventually wiped Ash's consciousness from the shuttle's computer banks, finally 'killing' him. Ash was the reason why Ripley was floating in space for 57 years.

29:05 "We can't have any firing, in there." This move strikes me as a mistake. I mean, you _don't_ place Marines in a dangerous situation and then tell them they're not allowed to _defend_ themselves. They're Marines. If they're in a place where their weapons pose an unavoidable threat, the way to remove the threat is to have them fall back to a secure location until you come up with something _else._ This man, as a Marine lieutenant, should've _known_ that.

I dont think anyone mentioned this and since you hated Burke, here's a story you will like. When Paul Reiser brought his mother to the premiere of Aliens, she cheered when Burke got killed. And to answer your question about why the Xenomorphs backed up, the queen signaled them to back away to protect the eggs. She and Ripley had a sort of agreement not to harm each other. Till Ripley burned the eggs.

5:24 "This reminds me of interstellar when his kids got older." This is different. In Interstellar, time worked differently for Matthew McConaughey than it did for his kids because of Relativity (Ask Einstein to explain that). But basically it mean when he traveled super crazy fast, time slowed down for him, but not for his kids on Earth. And the black hole planet made things even worse. In this movie, Ripley wasn't going that fast, so time didn't slow down, and she didn't have black holes. She was just frozen so her bodily functions stopped. Even aging stopped. She doesn't just look young. She really is the exact same age right now as she was when she killed that first alien 57 years ago. But I bet her 401k is Huuuuuuge!

21:35 "They never listen to Ripley." They did. They instantly recognized the acid blood. HIcks saw the melted metal and said "Looks like somebody bagged one of Ripley's bad guys." They listened and they learned. But right now, they are the military experts. She's never been in the military, never even held a gun. Military people don't listen to civilians who try to tell them how to do their military jobs. Ever. Nor should they. When Ripley said "It's not secure" she was wrong. It's like she walked into a surgery and told the surgeon "you're doing surgery wrong". FWIW, in the military, "secure" does not mean "All sealed up so perfectly that not even a germ could get in." Nothing is ever that secure. Not the Pentagon, not Fort Knox, not the strongest castle, fortress, or bunker ever built. "Secure" means two things: 1. We have checked the entire area and there are no enemies here right now. 2. We have guards at every entrance so if anything tries to get in, we will know it. These marines did both things so the area is secure. Gorman was right. Ripley was wrong. That's why they should not listen to her. Side note: we learn later that the Marines and Ripley all m issed one way in that no human could use, but aliens can. They might have been wrong when they said it was secure, but she didn't know about that either, so she was just as wrong as they were.

their leader was inexperienced, went in totally overconfident and lacking basic information about the environment they were in. they took in weapons they couldn't use without blowing up the facility! hell, the soldiers had zero respect from Goman. they listened but ignored what she told them. but hey, they're the "professionals".
@blakewalker84120
@blakewalker84120 3 ай бұрын
@@YoureMrLebowski In the real Earth, officers are often graduates from military academies (e.g. West Point) with no experience. Happens all the time. Same thing with Gorman. You're right; he is inexperienced and froze when stuff happened. That doesn't change the fact the rest of them were excellent, well trained professional marines. They were on a rescue mission. Even Ripley never said "They're all dead, let's leave." The idea was to rescue the colonists. They HAD to go in there. It was extremely urgent. Yes, it would have been nice if any of them had noticed the primary heat exchangers. In their haste to get in there and save human lives, they ALL overlooked it. Even professionals make mistakes and these guys are not professional nuclear physicists, they're professional marines. I think we can excuse 11 Marines for not being professional at every human occupation known to man. Nothing you said invalidates anything I said. The area was "secure" by any and all reasonable military standards. Professional soldiers of any kind are not obligated to listen to a civilian consultant regarding military protocols or procedures. They did listen to her about her one area of expertise: what she knows about aliens. After that, it would be pointless, even reckless, to let this civilian with no military experience tell the Marines how to do Marine stuff. You said "they ignored what she told them" but they didn't. They knew about facehuggers, acid blood, all of it. They listened, they absorbed it, then they went in and tried to do their job of saving human lives as quickly as possible. If these aliens had not picked the one single most perfect spot on the entire planet to build this nest, the Marines would have won. We can see what the 4 survivors did with limited ammo and no resupply - they killed dozens, maybe a hundred but there's no way to count it so I'll say probably not a hundred, but many dozens of aliens. There was a maximum of 152 aliens here. Reasonably, the 4 marines killed half of that number, give or take. Now imagine what all 13 of them could do with unlimited ammo and plentiful resupply. Most of them would get back home alive. They would have won easily except for this one horrific bit of bad luck that made them put aside their weapons and walk into an ambush while they tried to complete their urgent mission to save lives armed only with harsh language.

I'm glad you saw the Special Edition. That's the only way to watch Aliens now, especially after Alien Isolation. To me, this movie is the greatest sci-fi and one of the Top 3 sequels ever made. Its right up there with T2 and The Godfather Part II. Sigourney Weaver shouldve won Best Actress. Thanks to James Cameron's writing and Sigourney Weavers acting, Ellen Ripley is one of the greatest, strongest, most iconic female characters ever put on film.

"Aliens": Third Officer Ripley has been found and taken to Gateway station with a Xenomorph-size case of PTSD. What will the "Weyland-Yutani Suits" make of her blowing up the "Nostromo"? 4:18 You are watching the Special Edition version that I bought as a Laserdisc(!) in 1990. It answered a question I'd had since 1986; was Ripley a parent? 12:38 Actor Jenette Goldstein is/was a bodybuilder and spoke Spanish fluently enough to be cast as a Latina in movies. I've read that makeup artists had trouble with her "prominent case of freckles." 17:10 Ripley is showing Sgt. Apone and Cpl. Hicks that she isn't a "front office paper shuffler" like Burke, but a working class dog like themselves. 20:59 Hamsters, like Jones the Cat, are too small to be Xenomorph hosts. 24:47 In 1986, I noticed that Ripley is able to "get close, quickly," to Rebecca, unlike the female Colonial Marines. Why was that? A reviewer of the time said: "Sisterhood!" The SE version answered that question. 29:26 Vasquez passes a spare fire control unit to Drake, so they can still provide fire support for the squad. 44:03 The Sentry Gun Boogaloo was something unexpected. 46:55 The Manual of Arms. 57:05 They went out like Klingon warriors. 1:00:10 The right tool for the job with Duck Tape. 1:00:25 The studio cut this out!? 1:02:00 The Egg Chamber. 1:06:04 Queen takes Bishop. 1:10:50 Ripley's journey isn't over...

The crazy part about that meeting Ripley had with those corporate suits is none of them in that room likley had a clue that the company they're working for 57 years ago tried to obtain some alien creature to use as a bioweapon. Hell, none of them might be aware there is a bio weapons division at the company. These things are so compartmentalized, those smug assholes probably did think she was crazy. Only those at the very top of Weylan-Yutani are truly aware of what's going on, what went on before the events of the original movie and in between then and this movie, and that's terrifying.

Weyland-Yutani has been aware of the xenomorphs and other predatory species (wink wink) for a long time. It was only with the advent of FTL space travel that they could get out there to get them a fresh specimen. More than likely the order to get a xenomorph for analysis is built into the Mother system for every one of their ships. They just don't tell the crews about it.
