Marina Alimou/Alimos Marina (Μαρίνα Αλίμου) is a picturesque part of Alimos on the South part of Athens (Athenian Riviera) in Greece. Marina Alimou is located southwest of Athens - next to the areas Palaio Faliro (Παλαιό Φάληρο) and Elliniko (Ελληνικό), 15 km from the city center, 8 km south of Piraeus port and 30 km from Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport. It is served by a dense network of trams, buses, and taxis.
It offers services for everyone with its beauty and variety such as cafes and restaurants (like "Skipper's" and Dia Noche") that have outdoor seating so you can enjoy your coffee under the Greek sky while tasting Mediterranean flavors. The Marina also offers other activities that you can enjoy like the municipal swimming pool, or experience sea life at the historic Nautical Club of Kalamaki (ΝΟΚ).

A story from Alimos... Yachts gently sway on the harbor’s calm water. The Meltemi is barely more than a soft breeze on what looks like turning into another sticky Saturday. It is the end of one charter week and the start of a next. Returning sailors have to vacate their yachts before 9 a.m. Then a small legion of cleaning ladies is released upon the boats. An army of moiling bees toiling away to get the ships ready for a next batch of vacationers who will be allowed onto the boats as of 5 p.m. And then set off for their sailing trips. Trips that probably take them to the Cyclades, or maybe the Saronic Islands. Two Scandinavian families are clearing a vast catamaran. One of the daughters is wandering along the quay. She tries to engage in a conversation with vacationers on other moored yachts, taxi drivers awaiting travelers in need of a ride to the airport or to the starting point of a next leg on their journey; cleaning ladies waiting to get onto the boats. She must be about twenty or so at the looks of her. That age where girls feel all adult and grown-up, and still feel very confident about somehow succeeding in realizing all their dreams. She is rather heavy built. But also in those spots where men tend to like volume. Those same men, as a result, no longer tend to see a voluminous young woman, but rather a voluptuous one. The girl is offering people the food that is left-over from their sailing trip. Half a jar of jam, some cheese and ham, coffee, an almost entire loaf of bread. As well as some beers. It is her modest contribution to the redistribution of wealth. Something that is undeniably a good thing. Her quest is not very successful at first. Most of the addressed are not entirely certain they correctly understand her proposal, English not being their nor her mother tongue. She does not ask a middle-aged man on the yacht moored next to their catamaran if he is interested in the goods. Obviously, that man is a well-off white Westerner. He should obviously never benefit from any redistribution of wealth. Just comes in handy to help finance the concept. Finally, she finds a taxi driver who, after some initial reluctance, gladly accepts the food. The white male on the neighboring yacht admires her for it. Even thinks that he could fall in love with the girl; at least for a while. Then reflects on all life still has to reveal to the girl, and quickly tires of the idea. One such thing is the existence of people like Benita. Benita arrived here from the Baltic region about fifteen years ago. She had, and still seems to have, access to considerable capital means, the origins of which remain unclear to this day. With that money, she started her own yacht chartering business. Benita adheres to a very hands-on management style of her chartering business. Each Saturday for instance, when the yachts are returned by departing travelers and new tourists board them, she is present at the marina from dawn till dusk. Never the other way around. Not even when a man called Quinten boards one of her boats. See, she trusts no one to adequately establish the possible damages to one of her yachts. Damages that the client obviously has to compensate for. Numerous times she noticed damages that everyone else had failed to see. That even the licensed craftsmen subsequently called in for the necessary repairs often failed to see damages noticed by Benita, does not change the fact that damages were real and serious; in Benita’s eyes at least. The craftsmen however failed to spot the impairments claimed by Benita and consequently left without repairing anything. Benita obviously did not pay them as a consequence. Unfortunately, by that time the customer was already far into his journey back home and it proved impossible to refund the compensation he had paid Benita for repairs that ultimately proved unnecessary. What else could Benita do but reluctantly hold on to that money. Also, none of Benita’s cleaning ladies is allowed on a yacht before Benita has inspected it herself. And has removed all items the customer left behind. Left-overs of alcohol, bread toppings, soft-drinks, … Benita has an appetite for all of them. Some even claim to have witnessed her carrying expired milk back to her car. You can just not trust a simple cleaning lady to handle such complex matters, could you? How could they appreciate the true value of a good Macallan, aged in double casks during 30 long years? Then, the customer receives his yacht with a full tank of fuel when sailing off on his trip. The agreement being that they return the yacht with a full tank. Benita looks to it that each of her boats fills up with one and the same distributor. Because she knows that her chosen distributor provides quality fuel, and no cheap mixtures that end up hurting the engine. Even if she is well aware that her distributor has the meters on all his fuel trucks rigged to display about 30% more fuel than the amount that was actually pumped into the tank. The customer pays the fuel distributor for those 30% extra. Vicious rumors have it that Benita also has a stake in those 30%. But that has never been proven. Anyway, even if so, what do those rich pampered American or West-European customers care about the odd 50 euros more or less on a fuel bill? Not to mention Russians. In a way, Benita is entitled to that kind of redistribution of wealth. Is she not? Even if nowadays she is one of the few in town driving a fancy German SUV, nothing would ever compensate for how those Russians treated her back in the Baltics. The Swedish girl does not yet know about the existence of people like Benita. Let alone about the powerful traders beyond the money Benita deploys. Convinced that she has turned the world into a better place by handing away some left-overs, she scampers back to her 7,000 Euros a week charter catamaran; all smiles and joy. Decent Scandinavian upbringing and education do not prepare one for harsh realities like Benita. Only the Mediterranean does. Still, somehow, the girl has contributed her share. At least, Benita did not get her hands on the left-overs so kindly offered to the taxi driver. Maybe that could get the man on the neighboring yacht to love the girl again… for a short while at least.

Beautiful video! I was there at least 20 times in the last two decades. Is there now finally stable electricity in 2023? Sufficient acceptable Wcs & showers? Dear Greeks you are my favorite folk in Europe, that's why I come to you every year for several weeks. But now and then some things could go a little faster. With much love. Greetings from Berlin!

Hi there! Thank you for your comment and for watching my video about Marina Alimos. I'm glad to hear that you've been there many times over the last two decades and that Greece is one of your favorite destinations in Europe. In terms of the electricity stability, I'm not sure about the current situation but from my understanding, they are planning to renovate the Marina soon. I understand that things can always be improved, but I hope that your overall experience at the marina was still enjoyable. Thank you for your love and support for Greece, and greetings from Athens! 🙂
