I gave birth to a 9lb 10oz, 21in baby boy, who was 7 weeks 6 days early. We did NICU for only 2 weeks. YAY! I breastfed abut he cried constantly. Im talking, he would drain both sides, and scream like he had not been fed. In the hospital the had tested my milk to makes sure it was nutritious. At his 1 week out of the hospital, i sobbed, because he always cried. Doc said to let him feed both breasts, then give him a formula bottle. BEST DECISION EVER. I was producing a lot of breastmilk, but it did not fill hom up. So...both breasts, then a 4oz bottle. Then 6oz and then 8oz. I breastfed for about 16 months. That baby boy is now a man. I always tell new moms, do what is best for you and baby....breastfeeding, pumping, formula, or a combition of all. Baby being fed is what matters.

Thank you for posting this!! I got told so many times that I should be breastfeeding, but I have a heart condition (WPW with SVT/AVRT) and the stress from breastfeeding I just couldn’t handle it, hearing this from you, an OBGYN, makes me feel not alone and that it is 100% okay if you choose not to breastfeed! My oldest son is also a brain tumor cancer survivor and I have been told that he got brain cancer from the formula, which is 100% not true. But people can be so cruel! As a mom you know what’s best for YOUR child and I think this message is so important for new or expecting moms!

To those people who think formula is abusive, only breast milk is acceptable, what are adopted parents supposed to feed their children? Or foster parents? Or single dads? Women do die during childbirth? Do you expect dads to let their newborns starve to death? And what about women who don't produce enough?

Yes, girl! The criticism I got when I switched to formula…. Returning to work as a county social worker made it so hard to pump and my supply was always quite low after trying multiple different drinks, foods, power pumping, etc. Switching to formula was so much weight off of my shoulders. My daughter’s pediatrician was annoyed with me worrying about switching as she said it’s made to mimic breast milk and baby would be getting the same nutrients. So much mom guilt. Please don’t shame moms who are trying their best.

Honestly, some people it just doesn’t work out for one reason or another. And that’s ok. My formula child has been far less problematic than my breast fed child. Who knows why?! I don’t for a second blame breastfeeding to have been a worse option.

Less problematic in what ways?
@DJ-ix7gf4 ай бұрын
@@s.sflower my formula child has seasonal allergies most months out of the year, a very defiant eater, has struggled with sleeping issues off and on, could not easily self soothe and is just overall a much more challenging young child. My formula child was just a much smoother process and almost never missed school, sports, or events for being sick. I love them both dearly but I would definitely not say my bond is stronger with the breast fed, like not even close. I guess it’s just different for everyone.

After finding out baby formula being spiked with melamine in Asia, I don’t trust any formulas now. But then I might need to go this route cos as I am expecting now 😮 just found out 3 weeks ago not knowing I was ever able to conceive and I’m now 43.

Out of curiosity, if you feel comfortable sharing, what are your reasons for going with formula instead of breast feeding? or do you also pump? I’ve heard sometimes breastfeeding can be stressful and difficult for new moms. Pumping can help, but sometimes their milk ducts are blocked or something. I’m not a parent, so I was just wondering. Sorry if this was too much to read 😅 P.S. I accidentally typed “beast feeding” so I edited the grammar mistake.

My son my was silently aspirating when breast fed so he needed to be switched formula thickened with baby oats (you can’t thicken breast milk). My sister formula fed because she just wanted her body back after pregnancy. There are so many different reasons.

My kid did not want breast milk. They would only eat as little as possible and cry a lot. So we had to switch coz they didn't gain weight and it was really scary. We don't know why, sometimes it just doesn't work out. The kid is a big teen now and doing fine. :)

With my first daughter, I had to switch to Formula after 3 months because my milk wasn't enough to keep her full. With my second one, I did breastmilk and Formula milk so that she was used to it, in case my milk wasn't sufficient. Plus, I would like to add that you gotta love breastfeeding because for me was just too much at times. 😂

My pregnancy was considered high risk bcuz I’m 38 years old! I was so disappointed he’s now on Similac special care with iron it’s a high calorie formula 24 calories per oz he’s now almost 3 months old and weighs 11 pounds! sometimes you just can’t!! @cameronpowers7602 What is your problem? I think every parent is aware breastmilk is best. Obviously, so does she. Did you ever think there's more than laziness at play? Health issues, lack of production. Are you aware stress is the number one killer of breastmilk supply? How many mom's do you think are stressed out for one reason or another and unfortunately their supply just isn't enough. Get off your high horse, and stop being a dick.

Convenient?!? Oh yes... Sooooo convenient to pay $115-$200/wk for formula and special baby water (instead of the free stuff on tap), get up to MIX AND HEAT bottles 1100 times a day (instead of whip out a breast right there), wash and sanitize multiple bottles and nipples every day (instead of clean just the two nipples on my chest), have to lug around bottles, water, formula every darn place (instead of just lil ol me). SUPER convenient. 🙄 You haven't got the first Idea what you're talking about.
