On slavery: yes, it was different then. American slavery was in some significant ways worse. However, slavery in general in the ancient Near East wasn’t great and she downplayed it just a bit. But yes, it was different. However, what she failed to acknowledge was how while some Christians read verses that made them say we need to end slavery, the terrible race-based chattel slavery we had was also justified by many more Christians who also used verses. By not owning up to this, she doesn’t have to consider how the spiritual/intellectual influence of these slavers is still infecting evangelical thought today

Not only that but she mentioned how they are thinking about changing the word slavery in the bible to servant...slippery slope. Isn't that against the word? Also you give ammunition to athiest that the bible has been altered.

Why are you becoming senseless in your thoughts (knowing some justified slavery using the Bible while others used it to end slavery) given non is good to know we need a SAVIOUR? Here are truth statements from the Bible that humans are shaped in the sin nature called iniquity, the wages of sin is death, and there is an appointed time for a person to die, after that COMES GOD'S JUDGMENT. The evidence is the creation of laws (GOD'S LAW INFLUENCING humans to create man made laws to deal with the sin nature), and our mortality. We were birth into the knowledge of evil (that is the learning of harming the body) unknowingly under the umbrella of a civilized world, meaning that laws were put in place to control said knowledge of evil by enabling us to evolve culturally and morally. Civilization is like a rainbow that makes our characters look pretty because laws cannot change the hearts of people, but only can act as a disciplinarian. Consequently, we become civilized which supports the fact that non of us is good given being civilized is not the same as being good. Simply put, humanity is sick with sin, sin makes laws necessary & laws are the stability needed to build a civilization. How can a civilized person, who is guilty of violating GOD'S LAW escape HIS JUDGEMENT?

The bible literally says you can own people as property and beat them with a rod. We can forget about the label "slavery". What matters is that owning people as property is wrong, and the bible simply allows for it rather than condemnd and forbidding it. Comparing the biblical topic to owing a debt is just plainly a distraction from the problem and immoral take that it has. Sad to see people in this day and age making excuses for it.

Indeed the Bible does condone the practice of slavery, even if we decide to change its name into "servitude" or whatever other denomination. People should read the Bible with accuracy and then try to deal with the issue with intellectual honesty.

This was an incredibly helpful video to me. I love what you discussed about the true meanings of words. I can be listening to “Christian” music and feel off or secular music and not he bothered in my spirit at all. Im asking God to give me the discernment to know what to steer from and not man to label what’s “Christian” or “worldly”. How I’ve often put Him or labels in a box just so that I could try to understand it to some degree. In fact my 21 year old daughter was just telling me how Andy Mineo music and interview about his music has really helped her. He’s transparent. Isn’t that what God desires?

Now comes a prayer to help in the spiritual journey by encouraging the reader to examine the heart to see if it is pleasing to GOD THROUGH THE PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST using caps as emphasis to show the honest reverence for HIS SOVEREIGNTY. On a balcony of space STEPPED A PURE AND HOLY GOD. IN AWESOME SOLITUDE YOU STOOD ALONE. Not one faint star to give YOU light; just endless darkness, it was blackest night. But somehow in the darkness YOU COULD SEE. YOU SAW mountains high and lofty, YOU SAW valleys lush and green. YOU SAW babbling brooks, and wildflowers grow, YOU EVEN HEARD a robin sing. Then through YOUR COMPASSION STANDING OUT THERE IN YOUR TOMORROW, YOU SAW forum's visitors, their families and friends. 🥰 YOU SAW them as sinners (missing the mark resulting in their weaknesses prevailing causing guilt of wrong doing) because there is no intrinsic righteousness in any of us due to Adam’s sin. YOU SAW them as they grew from a baby into adulthood due to YOUR HANDS OF MERCY. 🥰 YOU SAW them pursuing a career path for the purpose of obtaining the gains of the world not realizing that it is a loss compared to what YOU DID on the cross. YOU SAW them working long and laboring hard to receive the grace by justification even though YOU stated, "This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent."(John 6:29 KJV) YOU SAW the unwillingness to accept YOUR PLAN OF SALVATION THROUGH YOUR SON JESUS CHRIST. YOU SAW them living with the guilt of committing crimes to the heart. YOU SAW them enduring personal crisis. YOU SAW the weight of the burden on their hearts with each tribulation. YOU SAW them seeking comfort from the above mentioned topography, ONE OF THE MANY MARVELS YOUR PERFECT HANDS HAVE MADE. 👏👏👏 YOU SAW their worries about tomorrow. If their hearts were a window that they could look through, oh the pains and scars they would see. What a cruel fate the skin gives as a mask to the inward pain. But the skin couldn’t cover THE SUFFERING YOUR ONE AND ONLY SON BORED on the cross as PAYMENT for all our sins because HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS ALONE HAD THE MERIT TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF YOUR HOLINESS. Indeed, ONLY HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS IS SUFFICIENT TO SAVE us from this present evil world as evidenced by Mary's song of praise. "And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour." (Luke 1:46-47 KJV) Awesome thanks to YOUR GREAT PARDON for being easy on the heart. 🥰 They have seen a lot of crazy things done in YOUR NAME. For example, the father of lies futile attempts to make crooked the right ways of the LORD to turn people away from faith in the WORKS OF JESUS CHRIST ALONE. How can anyone bear the thought of his or her life story detracting from the GLORY AND HONOR KNOWN TO BELONG TO CHRIST ALONE? As a consequence, YOU ARE A MYSTERY OF GREAT MYSTERY to them. Despite this conviction, YOU ARE MINDFUL of them as evidenced by the fact that YOUR JUDGEMENT is not speedy, allowing them to pursue the desires of the flesh. They are aware of hypocrisy in religious assemblies that like to be seen and heard. In addition, secular education teaches that there is no right and wrong, if GOD exists there is no way of relating to HIM, and moral standards shift according to the whims of fashion. Therefore, their minds are conditioned to question everything this world has to offer including “THY POWER THROUGHOUT THE UNIVERSE DISPLAYED.” They have accepted the heavy burden of dealing with the troubles of this life and seek to know another way, YOU THE GREAT COMFORTER TO ALL who did receive YOU as their personal SAVIOR. Still, YOU have shown them NEW MERCY every day with each thought they make and each breath they take. Unfortunately, like the prodigal son, we are all guilty of wandering far from YOU LORD because the negative experiences of our lives tend to build roadblocks to the TRUTH. As time marches on, JESUS CHRIST HELP them to identify the way, truth, and eternal life (that is YOU). Since to know and follow your SPIRIT is more exciting than any 007 movies, and YOU DELIGHT MAKING the ordinary into extraordinary. As time marches on, JESUS CHRIST MAKE them understand that there is no way around YOUR TRUTH, and that there is something about YOUR NAME. As time marches on, JESUS CHRIST HELP them defeat in their minds what is false in YOUR EYES. LORD GUIDE their thoughts to know that the path of sin is hard on their hearts for the purpose of crying out to YOU to know the joy, peace of having the heavy burden LIFTED by THE GOD OF PEACE I AM, and ANCHOR their souls in THE HAVEN OF REST. In other words, LORD use the storms in their lives to get a hold of them to trust YOU and believe. In truth, YOU ARE THE JOY that seekest them through pain. LORD HELP their fainting hearts to believe that YOU, who was slain on the cross over 2000 years ago has the POWER TO CHANGE lives today through the INSTANTANEOUS GREAT FAVOR from GOD to the house of Israel made known in believers by YOU to make YOUR NAME EVERLASTING. 🥰 For as the statue liberates the citizens so the cross liberates the soul. ONLY YOU can calm the trouble waters of the mind when one admits to wanting salvation from one’s sinful nature, JESUS IS LORD, and believes in the heart that GOD RAISED HIM from the dead TO LIFT the heavy burden of sin's guilt away from the heart in accordance to YOUR WORD found in Psalm 51:1-10 KJV. 👏👏👏👏👏👏 O, the wonder of it all to experience within the flesh the feeling of a tree being cut back/pruned in order for it to grow stronger and more beautiful after meditating on the words of said Psalm. 🥰🙌 LORD MAKE them know that ONLY YOUR HOLY SPIRIT, through the experience of a new birth within believers, can prevent the family circle from being broken because THE HOPE OF ETERNAL LIFE YOU HAVE GRANTED means a chapter of their lives is decided. Creation sings the rebirth song for them yearly, through YOUR PROMISE of springtime, giving rise to the idea that by the mention of YOUR NAME flowers grow, and the desert blooms again. 🥰 LORD GUIDE their understanding of words to use to come into YOUR PRESENCE with an honest reverence of WHO YOU ARE to experience the beauty that time can't erase YOUR WISDOM resting on their faces. LORD STRENGTHEN their determination to never waiver in efforts to search for YOU because the wages of sin is too high for anyone to pay. Additionally, THE KING OF KINGS is needed in their hearts to learn how to expand their capacity to love for YOU are LOVE in any language. 🥰 Once they learn to speak it with boldness through YOUR WONDERFUL COUNSELING all the world will hear, and know that LOVE is the language of their hearts. So LORD, KEEP KNOCKING on their door until they let YOU in to know hardships and struggles will end with a GREAT CELEBRATION WITH YOU. 🥰🙌 If one believes faith cannot be forced, YOU WILL GIVE that individual over to the stubborn heart to follow own counsel which will surely fail him or her to the extent that the punishment will last forever found in Psalms 81 NIV. Given this, I pray that YOU WILL MAKE that person see that this feeling is wasted for a world in which we become strangers as we age, gives us thrills instead of peace, aims to solve a problem but creates another, and unrest surges with each passing generation. Shed some light into their broken hearts for YOU ARE THE GREAT JEHOVAH, THE GOD THAT HEALETH thee. Lastly, LORD when they call on YOU in earnest prayer to come into their hearts to be born again (repentance manifesting itself in a changed life), I pray that YOU WILL GIVE them the blessed assurance of their salvation because nothing breaks YOUR HEART, or tears YOU apart like when they cry from the trials of the devil who comes to slander, falsely accuse, steal, kill & destroy. Only by drawing nearer to YOU LORD will put them on a path to a glorious one way trip winding upward to YOU where pain is not welcome because the heart will never break anymore. For ONLY YOU UNDERSTANDS our tears since YOU LOOK at the heart, while humans look at the flesh. O LOVE that will not let them go. When they don't have the strength to try, and have cried all they can cry hear their hearts that need YOU more today than yesterday. Many thanks LORD for speaking TRUTH in our lives TO BLESS those who are not offended by THEE. LET YOUR WILL BE DONE because YOUR LOVE ALONE CONQUERS everything by WAITING for them to cease struggling, and finally surrender to YOUR EMBRACE to learn about YOUR LOVE AND PROMISE TO TAKE CARE of your children exquisitely. 🥰 Since... "at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore"... (Psalms 16:11 KJV), and the nail print for them to know YOU by answering the following question. How did CHRIST LOVE people into a relationship with HIM? 🥰

@@frankstanley8499 You mean the verses that state that the Israelites were NOT to rape and pillage the female captives of war that was the usual thing done by barbaric countries? And that God commanded the Israelites NOT to do such things.. That what you’re talking about? That if they wanted them they had to marry them but before they could do that they had to have the woman cut her hair, clip her nails, and put on sackcloth and mourn for anyone she lost in the battle for 30 days. The hair cutting, clipping of nails and sackcloth and time of mourning was the traditional Jewish way they mourned…you know that right?? But if you had issues with her after(meaning religious issues), you could NOT sell her but let her go back to her ppl because she was humbled because she was no longer a virgin. It’s important to not look at these scriptures with a western point of view when u need to understand the eastern culture at the time, thousands of years ago to understand them in proper context. So much for your sex slavery claim…Because it’s literally just not true. How many lies have you told in your life? Ever stolen anything? Hated anyone? Jesus said if you’ve hated anyone you have committed murder in your heart. Jesus said if you’ve ever looked with lust you’ve committed adultery in your heart. Ever done that? If you have,God sees you as a lying, thieving, murderering, adulterer at heart. And the Bible warns if you were to die right now you’d go to Hell. But do you know the Bible also says God is rich in mercy (Ephesians 2:4)? And it’s not God’s Will that anyone should perish. You know what God did so guilty sinners wouldn’t go to Hell? God became a man, Jesus of Nazareth, walked sinless and took the sin of the world on His shoulders when He suffered and died on the cross. Then rose from the dead in 3 days defeating your worst fear…death itself. His last words on the cross were “IT IS FINISHED” meaning the debt for sin has been paid. Sin has to be punished because God is Holy and NO SIN can be in His presence. Should rapists be punished? Murderers? Hitler? Of course they should and we all know that. If you’re in court with a stack of fines about to go to jail but someone comes in and pays your fine The judge can legally let you go and still be just. That’s what Jesus did for you. The Old Testament tells you God’s plan to save humanity from sin and death and The New Testament shows you how He did it. What you need to do is repent of your sins and put your trust in Jesus. God promises the moment you do that, He’ll blot out every sin you’ve ever done, give you a new heart with new desires and guarantees that you will pass from death to life. We’re all under a curse my friend, 100 out of 100 of us will die. Your problem is you absolutely know there is a God and you absolutely Hate Him. I’m not telling you to join a specific church church,I don’t want your money. I just care about where you’re going on that day when death inevitably closes your eyes. I hope you can see that my friend.

The negative influences of this world are designed to make our heart sick through emotional & physical pain resulting in a given person turning to music as one source of comfort to the body. The painful realty of this existence gives rise to the birth of music in two forms, earthly & HEAVENLY. Earthly music speaks to the experiences of this world through the singer-song writer’s eyes. Oftentimes drug use (i.e. alcohol, smokes, marijuana, cocaine, opioids, benzos and propofol to name a few) is intertwined with the survival of an artist to deal with the pressure of performing in order to stay relevant in the music industry, and to serve as fuel for creativity. As a result, music celebrities develop a tendency to sin against their body, through excessive drug use, for not measuring up to or to satisfy the demands of their music. Any earthly joy they experience is darkened by the heavy burden of performing and the loss of privacy. The end users of their music become fans because the lyrics are relatable and the sound of the singer’s voice & rhythm helps them cope with the pains of this reality. Unfortunately, this band aid approach is only a time out from the hurt and in the meantime we are fortifying its wall with painful memories waiting in line. Who can save us from wounds that are silent, wordless and cruel all the while tearing us apart inch by inch on the inside, which could radically accelerate the demise of the human body? I will use caps as emphasis to show the honest reverence for GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY when writing about HEAVENLY music in the paragraphs below. That INVINCIBLE DIVINE be our HEAVENLY FATHER, WHO THROUGH HIS SON’S MISSION HAS INSPIRED believers to write songs that sing of HIS LIFE GIVING LOVE to deal with emotional & physical pain, economic instability, mortality and the emotional instability of others with the motive of winning over souls for HIS KINGDOM. The melody & theme of HEAVENLY music is hateful and intolerable to the devil, a spirit which causes us to be blinded of the effects of sin and is responsible for the woes of this world such as melancholy, anguish, tribulation and trial. These agitations of the soul create a heavy burden for the lost and could lead him or her to be hostile of songs that sing about GOD’S GLORY. This makes it clear that we cannot win the spiritual battle by our own strength. Moreover, on earth the devil has no equal. GOD has provided us with the ONE WHO CAN AND WILL LIFT the heavy burden of sin's guilt from a given sinner's heart if he or she (through faith) would open their understanding to Psalms (starting with the focus on Psalms 51:1-10 KJV), and hymns/songs giving praise to HIM for the purpose of being persuaded, converted and healed by the HOLY SPIRIT from within by transforming your body/temple into a meeting place for you and the KING OF THE AGES to commune as friends through the born again experience (repentance manifesting itself in a changed life). It is only here that the fears of tomorrow will diminish, the blessed assurance is given that you are HIS and HE LIVES. Once the blessed assurance is known in prayer (through the confession of wanting salvation from one’s sinful nature, combine with admitting that JESUS CHRIST is LORD and believing in one’s heart that GOD raised HIM from the dead to deliver us from sin's guilt) the world can never take it away because the world didn’t give it to you.

Re: Entertainment - How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the way of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of Yahweh, And in His law he meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. How do we react to the things we watch? What do the things we watch evoke from within us? We're supportive of the superhero who exacts revenge against the villains, but ...it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. What counsel are we giving our kids when we have Sunday school for an hour or so one day a week, but hours upon hours of the world's counsel pumped into our kids' minds all week long?

personally, I think that it's common sense to approach the Bible with the knowledge that one, it's a cultural thing of a different time. It was over 2000 years ago that The Bible was written, hello! Bigamy was also a common thing back then too, but people don't give that much thought. I think the only people that will find offense in the mention of slavery in the Bible are those looking to get offended, because it is common sense that those culture difference, and many others were of a long time ago.

Flawed argument.... In the Bible God condoned and permitted slavery... He even gave rules in detail.... If anyone should be beyond cultural confines it's God... Especially if he can give rules and condemn a host of other things as sin... He could've done the same for slavery... Yet nowhere is slavery condemned by God or Jesus in the Bible and it's in fact the opposite. "You may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. (Leviticus 25:44-46) "When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21)

Hi guys -- this verse alway bothered me: Leviticus 25:44-46 (NLT): 'However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way....' And even Jesus seems to approve of beating slaves Luke 12:47-48 (NLT): 'The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. “But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given....'

The Bible is clear that owning another person as property is acceptable. Trying to wriggle out of this by calling people servants is just an attempt to normalize the relationship, and defend the indefensible It would have very easy for God to say that it is wrong to own another person as property, and yet they don't, while finding time to forbid people from eating shellfish (punishable by death). The question you need to ask yourself is 'would I be happy to be employed under the conditions outlined in Exodus 21'. This would include allowing your boss to beat you, provided you don't die within two days - not something I would suspect many would find acceptable!

Re: Entertainment - The negative influences of this world are designed to make our heart sick through emotional & physical pain resulting in a given person turning to music as one source of comfort to the body.

I mean, I really liked the point you made about asking ourselves whether what we are watching aligns with scripture and what I’ve heard about the Chosen (from others that have watched the show and I’ve seen clips of the show as well) doesn’t align with scripture. I mean, sure the show is about Jesus but the character narratives are almost completely made up for the purpose of “humanizing” the characters based on the common things that people struggle with now. The Bible forbids forced labor. The Slavery allowed in the Bible is for "bond's people" or servants, neither is forced to work for someone but they are owned by them for as long as their contract runs. Just like athletes today can be bought and sold but are not forced to play a sport. Exodus 21:16...“Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possession of him, shall be put to death." 1 Timothy 1: 8-10..."Now we know that the Law is fine if one applies it properly.... kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and everything else that is in opposition to the wholesome teaching." ....Kidnapping or manstealing is the definition of what we today call slavery, or forcing a "none criminal" to work for someone.
@Hieiman

Wrong... Kidnapping isn't slavery... There's separate rules for kidnapping and there's separate rules for slavery. The slavery in the Bible isn't simply indentured servitude... You're only talking about one of the kinds of slavery permitted. God literally permits and condones enslaving people against their will and for their lives to be property passed down as inheritance. "You may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. @@jacobfield4848 And in reference to the Hebrew "bondservants".... who can be enslaved 6 years.... This is also terrible in another way. "If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.’ If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever. (Exodus 21:2-6) So a Hebrew can walk free, but his wife and kids will remain the property of his master... If he wants to stay with them, then he has to become a slave for life... Of course this and many other verses condoning and permitting slavery won't be mentioned by disingenuous apologists.

Kirk I looked into the whole slavery thing in the Bible for years, and the answer Alisa gave is to a completely different question than the one you asked frankly. She's talking about debt indentured servitude for Hebrews. The chattel slavery in the Bible related to foreigners. They were actual chattel slaves for their entire lives. God even commanded this to happen. I heard this brought up a lot so I wanted to educate myself so I would have a knowledgeable answer to it. But the more I dug into it, the more I realized it was actually a really good question. Yes, the Bible does condone chattel slavery. Yes it was different from American slavery. No the Bible never condemns slavery. Yes God commands it to happen. I've never really been able to wrap my head around any of that and I've read everything I could find on the subject. I'm still searching for the answer.

My OPINION from what I understand God has shown me through the Bible. The Old Testament is full of situations for the future generations to look back on to REMEMBER. Habakkuk is a good book which shows that God warned His people to stop worshiping idols. In Habakkuk 1:6, God raised up the Chaldeans to enslave His people because of their disobedience. Chattel slavery shows our life as sinners, slaves to sin, and is contrasted by the bond-servant who willing submitted to his master(God). Paul refers to himself as a bond-servant of Christ Jesus (Romans 1:1, Philippians 1:1, Titus 1:1). This is the life of a truly repentant, regenerative, God-fearing Christian who has freedom from sin through salvation in Christ Jesus, therefore, a obedient servant of the LORD. Just my thoughts on a possible spiritual meaning and difference between the two kinds of slavery. Philippians 2:7 describes Christ, "But emptied Himself taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men." Also see Revelation 7:3, 11:18. I am not condoning anything except the sovereignty of GOD. Peace to you.

Why mention equal outcome when there is literally no one making that argument? The arguments are usually about equal rights not outcome like she is claiming. Im not a supporter of these social justice movements but I will admit there are racial injustice occurances that take place. Thank God for Jesus

How is she on TBN saying slavery wasn't that bad? In the Bible, non Jewish slaves were considered property and it was a lifetime thing. Also the ban on kidnapping, and selling slaves only applied to Jewish slaves. So folks were completely in the right to kidnap and sell non Jewish slaves. Go read Leviticus 25:44-46

I don't mean to be a spoilsport, however on one hand Kirk, you opened by saying should we "should we really let our children only watch quote-unquote Christian movies, cookie cutter Christian movies." And then you both discussed having dialogues with your children about what is right and wrong with the movies. And then you both came back and said well we should just create good Christian content for them so they don't have to watch those kind of movies.. Is that is that not a contradiction?..or..are not both points valid?.. which is which. The first point about trying to be hip and relate to the culture by allowing young people to view secular media and then having cerebral conversations dissecting that content in a debate style format is almost kind of putting the cart before the horse. Doctor James Dobson spent the first twenty years at least -,of his career warning us to give our children a solid Christian Foundation about life and the world, without exposing them to the evil of the world-,as much as pissible- and then when they go out in the world the evil will be glaringly obvious. That teaching was always backed up by the age old example of how United States Treasury agents . when trained to recognize counterfeit money -are never shown counterfeit money- they are only shown the real thing.. until it is painfully obvious when the counterfeit shows up. A great part of how we got in the mess we are now with our government- our young people -oir schools and all the things that are friends at Patriot Academy where you teach, are teaching us, is by allowing the young people to wander aimlessly in the world.. That whole mindset started in the 50s ..when it became fashionable for young people to have "their own music",.. whatever that meant -and we can see where that lead to. The bottom line is all of the supposedly hardcore right-wing conservative people from that era were correct in their warnings. Trying to be a cool hip Christian that relates to the culture is foolish. you cannot have one foot in one camp and another foot in the other camp.

This is an easy one. YES. The Bible allows Slavery. How do I know? In Ephesians chapter 6, verse 5, it plainly states: "Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ." (New International version) translation of the Bible. This isnt OLD testament. This is after Jesus lived, in the NEW testament, that Ephesians was written. It may be very uncomfortable to read that, but that verse is there, whether we like it or not. Check also the King James translation. and the Christian Standard Bible (CSB). Let this comfort you: we have moved beyond slavery today. (or have we? more on that in a minute). The Bible isnt saying we must still have it today, or continue it since Ephesians. It describes something that was allowed at the time, and how it supposed to go, or be. Do we have slavery today, as i mentioned above? well, not the chains on the ankle kind, but some folks would claim we still do, in that, when you are a basic employee working for a boss, you are the slave and they are the master and Ephesians still applies. Some people believe that now. I'll let you decide that one.

There are few different scriptures that get talked about in these slavery discussions. Some actually speak about indentured servitude and this is what Christians like to point to. There are also different rules for Hebrew slaves. And there is chattel slavery when it speaks about the “slave being your money” (ownership). “Buying the slaves from the heathen that surround you”. Don’t allow this manipulation of your holy book!! If it says it that’s what god meant. Right? Lol

#1-Translation error--too many times in multiple editions the word 'slave' in the original Hebrew is MIStranslated with 'servant.' This is entirely incorrect. #2--SLAVERY is the message of the Godpel!!!! The LORD requires TOTAL DEVOTION to HIM in order to be HIS child (Ephesians 6.6). HE requires that one must be BORN AGAIN and SEALED with The HOLY SPIRIT!!!!! Scripture does condemn slave trading. It neither condones nor condemns slavery. This describes employer-employee relationship.

addendum: no Scriptural references were given in section on 'slavery.' Alisa mentions 'the abolitions' as an example of eradicating. HISTORICAL FACT: Abolitionists were great proponents of the "Social Gospel" (ie, change society 1st (instead of the person 1st). They immigrated to the northern states after the failed Marxist revolutions in Europe in 1848. They had the atheist abraham linclown (whose friend was Karl Marx) end slavery 'by government decree.' Then when the slaves were freed they were NOT PROVIDED FOR. This is totally inhuman and demonic. During the WAR (1860-65) the SOUTH fought for the maintenance of CHRISTIANITY. (Reference: "Time on the Cross, Engel & Fogelman (1974) " for the truth of Southern slavery. The tbm teachers are not Scriptural and not aware of history. They gave no Scriptural references; Alisa saying 'we believe' instead. This automatically nullifies anything after. As well, why is she in a co-teaching position? This goes again against Scripture. Just another example of the 'great falling away of the church' which JESUS said would occur in the last days. A-Solo Scriptura (Scripture interprets Scripture) and b-always IN CONTEXT.

no matter how hard Christians deny it, the bible does condone slavery. It has no problem with people being property. The only thing it might have a problem with is Jews being property to each other. "8 Slaves, accept the authority of your masters with all deference, not only those who are kind and gentle but also those who are harsh. 19 For it is a credit to you if, being aware of God, you endure pain while suffering unjustly." 1 Peter 2"44 As for the male and female slaves whom you may have, it is from the nations around you that you may acquire male and female slaves. 45 You may also acquire them from among the aliens residing with you, and from their families that are with you, who have been born in your land; and they may be your property. 46 You may keep them as a possession for your children after you, for them to inherit as property. These you may treat as slaves, but as for your fellow Israelites, no one shall rule over the other with harshness." Leviticus 25It's a shame that Christians find they must lie about the bible and what it says.

The following passage shows that slaves are clearly property to be bought and sold like livestock. However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT) The following passage describes how the Hebrew slaves are to be treated. If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.’ If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever. (Exodus 21:2-6 NLT) Notice how they can get a male Hebrew slave to become a permanent slave by keeping his wife and children hostage until he says he wants to become a permanent slave. What kind of family values are these? The following passage describes the sickening practice of sex slavery. How can anyone think it is moral to sell your own daughter as a sex slave? When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl’s owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT) So these are the Bible family values! A man can buy as many sex slaves as he wants as long as he feeds them, clothes them, and has sex with them! What does the Bible say about beating slaves? It says you can beat both male and female slaves with a rod so hard that as long as they don’t die right away you are cleared of any wrong doing When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB) You would think that Jesus and the New Testament would have a different view of slavery, but slavery is still approved of in the New Testament, as the following passages show. Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT) Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT) In the following parable, Jesus clearly approves of beating slaves even if they didn’t know they were doing anything wrong. The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. “But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given.” (Luke 12:47-48 NLT)

In Exodus 21:8 it says if the master finds her displeasing she is to be redeemed. When we put our faith in Christ as payment for our sins, He redeems us too. We then become His bond servant and gladly so because we love Him so much! God did not forbid slavery. You seem to be well aware of His instruction regarding slavery. Men are evil. God knows the evil that is in our heart. He knows we will sin against Him and against each other. That’s why He gave us the law in the Old Testament. It was to help us see how completely unable we are to ever be good or righteous. He tells us our righteousness is as filthy rags. (Isaiah 64:6). The Bible says all cowardly, unbelieving, sexually immoral, liars, isolators, etc., will have their part in the lake of fire which is the second death. (Rev 21:8). The good news is that God, in the flesh (John1:14) came to this earth and paid the price for our sin. All those who believe in Him (what he did for us) will not perish but have eternal life with Him. (John 3:16). Salvation is found in no other name under heaven. (Acts 4:12). God has saved those who believe in Him and called us to live a holy life- not because of anything we earn but because of His grace. 2 Tim 1:9. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Acts 2:21). I pray you will understand and know our glorious Lord!

@@Bugsy0333 I can sure understand that you would feel I’m trying to song and dance around the fact that God allowed Israelites to purchase foreign slaves permanently. I also understand that you are thinking about the awful way Americans kidnapped people from Africa, justifying it because they thought they were an Inferior race. Slavery in Biblical times, I’m sure was equally brutal from the Romans. However, slaves during the time Israel was given this law was generally for economic purposes-both for foreigners and Israelis. You asked me why God would allow one person to own another. I can’t answer other than to tell you that everything we read in God’s Word is about redemption. Even through slavery God created rules to protect slaves, yet allow them a way to live if their circumstances were too impoverished. Always remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God redeemed you from your slavery. That is why I have given you this command. When you are harvesting your crops and forget to bring in a bundle of grain from your field, don’t go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigners, orphans, and widows. Then the LORD your God will bless you in all you do. (Deuteronomy 24:18-19) Exodus 21:27 And if a man knocks out the tooth of his male or female slave, he must let the slave go free to compensate for the tooth. (Exodus 21:27) If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand them over to their master. 16 Let them live among you wherever they like and in whatever town they choose. Do not oppress them. (Deuteronomy 24:15-16) For the law was not intended for people who do what is right. It is for people who are lawless and rebellious, who are ungodly and sinful, who consider nothing sacred and defile what is holy, who kill their father or mother or commit other murders. The law is for people who are sexually immoral, or who practice homosexuality, or are slave traders, liars, promise breakers, or who do anything else that contradicts the wholesome teaching (1 Timothy 1:9-10) The Greek word for slave traders was kidnappers. Israel was not allowed to kidnap people like we did in our nation. When we can see ourselves, our true sin nature, we realize that we all need to be redeemed. The scripture above says the law was not intended for those who do right. When we look inside ourselves we realize none of us do right. (Romans 3:10, psalm 14:1-3). The law reveals how much we sin and fall short of the glory of God. Do you lie, steal, lust, blasphemy, etc? I would not ask God why He allowed slavery. Humans have always enslaved each other. It still goes on today because we are evil. The better question is why did God come to earth in the most humble circumstances, and give His life paying the price for our sin? Everything on this earth dies. Atheists are concerned that our earth is in danger? Why? The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus. (Romans 6:23). God bless you Mike.

Today you work to stay alive and be of greater accountability and ego. How come price go up three times plus a year with 4 to 10 % at a time , but your salary stay for 5 years the same ? I’m sorry, this BS trope about slavery being different back then, like chattel slavery we know now, is willfully dishonest. You could make the weak case that some slaves, yes, were put in that position because of their economic status and it was the only way that they could make strides forward. But they were also slaves and rules about slaves that were slaves for life. I’m sorry but owning people this property is morally wrong, even if you think it was the best way that they could’ve lived. If you think it’s OK, I would love to see you make that case or would you yourself be OK to be put in as any type of slave described in the Bible. Again, for the sake of the argument, let’s just say that slavery was different back. Then, the interesting bit is: why in the world with the author of morality, the one who has the most power to do stuff, does not actually call it out and come up with a better system, like we have done throughout the centuries? I’m sorry, all this shows his moral evolution through the efforts of people and not a super duper smarty Deity.

What is actually described, condoned, and permitted in the bible by God is very similar in many ways to chattel slavery and she intentionally only described one of the types slavery in the Bible as indentured servitude and not the slavery that is completely involuntary and for a lifetime... Where slaveowners are permitted to beat their slaves as property and pass them down as inheritance. Very dishonest Mrs. Childers.

Right, fundamental Christian so often only focus on the regulations for Hebrew slaves. They very often neglect the regulations for non-Hebrew slaves. They call chattel slavery immoral but the god of the bible allows exactly this. BTW, the USA forbid the import of slaves in 1807. The bible never did such a thing. Here are some regulations that protected slaves in the states: Many of them are on the same lvel as the regulation for slaves in the bible: "And also be in enacted, by the authority aforesaid, and it is hereby enacted, That all masters and owners of servants, shall find and provide for their servants, wholesome and competent diet, clothing, and lodging, by the discretion of the county court; and shall not, at any time, give immoderate correction;.." Virginia: an-act-concerning-servants-and-slaves-1705 “Any person who shall maliciously dismember or deprive a slave of life shall suffer such punishment as would be inflicted in case the like offence had been committed on a free white person, and on the like proof, except in case of insurrection by such slave, and unless such death should happen by accident in giving such slave moderate correction.” Morris, Thomas D.. Southern Slavery and the Law, 1619-1860 (Studies in Legal History) (S.172). The University of North Carolina Press. Kindle-Version. Black Code of Lousiana (1806): SEC. 1. Slaves shall have free enjoyment of Sundays, and shall be paid fifty cents a day, or its customary equivalent, for their labor when employed by the free inhabitants - provided this privilege shall not be extended to slaves employed as servants, carriage drivers, hospital waiters, or in carrying provisions to market. SEC. 2. Every owner shall give to each of his slaves one barrel of Indian corn, or its equivalent, in rice, beans, or other grain, and one pint of salt, in kind, every month, under a penalty of a fine of ten dollars for every offence against this provision. ... SEC. 5. It shall be the duty of the master to procure for his sick slaves all kinds of temporal and spiritual assistance which their situation may demand. ... SEC. 33. If any slave, lawfully employed, shall be beaten by any person without cause or lawful authority, the person so offending shall pay for every such offence a fine of ten dollars; and if the slave so beaten shall be mutilated or rendered incapable of working, the offender shall pay the master two dollars a day, besides the fine. And if the slave be forever rendered unable to work, the offender shall pay the master the appraised value of the slave, or be forever maintained at the expense of the offending party; but if the offender shall not be able to pay the said fine, &c., then he shall be imprisoned for not less than one month, nor more than a year. As you can see the slaves were wel protected by US law.
