When she said "I'm not your daughter," I heard more regret than anything else. She wanted a place to belong, but she wasn't sure he would truely accept her until he fitted her into the berserker body.

Well, between certain entanglements between Fox and Disney, along with further complications caused by the Pandemic, things kind of got delayed. However it was announced just a few weeks ago that the sequel is now officially in active development.

People like a character who believably earns their power. Even in a sci-fi or fantasy setting. Non of this pathetic Mary Sue like Rey or Captain Marvel as expressed by the movies.

Well written character who goes on a heroes journey to overcome adversity and ultimately achieve something worthy. It's a simple trope but utterly compelling when handled properly as it was in this case.

That's why Mary Sue's get mocked, because there is no value in them. We all love Alita, because she's badass through hard adversity and struggle. She earned the respect of the audience. Nondescript Rey and Captain hurt people for words she doesn't like earned none of it, yet demand respect. We feel the same about anyone, male or female.

The thing about Berserker tech in the original lore; that stuff is pretty much a grey goop nanovirus. The body itself is a locked version that can safely be piloted, but reverting it back to its original stat makes it a viral weapon that more or less just assimilates unchecked. In Last Order, one of the uses for Berserker is to use it against superior tech since it breaks it down, but then deal with it immediately afterwards before it can fully take shape.

@@asianconnection7701 Probably because it’s targeting an American audience. Would you need an all Japanese cast? Then, again, to me, not all of the characters in many manga and anime appear, Japanese to me.

@@asianconnection7701 The character is CG altered. So it doesn’t necessarily matter that much. I guess she had the talent and the look that they needed. Because of the CGI it may not even be important that she has aged since the original movie. Many people have a lot of theories about why Hollywood does what it does. It doesn’t always seem to make sense. Be thankful it wasn’t another ghost in the machine.

@@smokinggnu6584 Unclear. This film has "not lived up to expectations" at the box office so it is ... not very likely a sequel is actively developed/filmed as we speak. Then again after nearly 20 years of waiting there was a correct Dredd movie after the first iteration with star power failed to deliver in '95. It is possible we'd see an Alita 2, but I won't hold my breath for it.

@@jamespaul2587 My wife is a (32)C, the post-adjustment development is about her size. 40 years ago she was about the same as the pre-adjustment development, about a 30B. And almost the same flexibility.....40 years ago. Age tends to fuck some things up, at 62 she can still almost do a splits.

@@jamespaul2587 Three kids, a car accident, falling off a horse...she bounced back pretty well from all of those. She has taken good care of herself physically...better than I did of myself. She still walks between 4 and 6 miles a day at work as a nurse, even though she's small stature (5' and about 110 lbs.) she has this upper body strength of a woman half her age. After the accident she took 18 months off work to actually care for me, while she was recovering herself. Some people have that sort of regenerative quality.

I am continually confounded as to why excellent movies, usually sci-fi. Never seem to get sequel's. This movie was entertaining to boot and I think reached a broad audience. Instead we are left hanging. Now everyone is much older and the sequel will be much harder to make. So sad.

Well, a sequel has been greenlit... There is also the graphic novels, which this movie kind of a patchwork of volumes 1-4 with some pathos thrown in and some story beats simplified/changed; of which there are currently 37 volumes. The scale also changes considerably on both a metaphysical and physical sense in the graphic novels starting off what we see here (small town/city to interplanetary conflict and from identity philosophy to what it means to be a person). Personally, I don't want to see how they will butcher Desty Nova. Originally he was an amoral genius who was exiled from Tiphares/Zalem with some crazy science to control random effects deterministically (i.e. controlling nanomachine production), but somehow he is now an evil/antagonistic mastermind?

Hmm, i dunno , but i think once a good original movie has been released , often it just does not have the same wow factor in the sequels , you kinda know what to expect in the sequels , and it seems a lot of the time the story line in sequels seems to just a bit ho hum. Maybe im a bit fussy , but often even if i liked the original movies , i often wont watch sequels 2, 3 ,4 , unless it really really has something that holds my interest , of course there are some exceptions to that rule ..

I dunno... This scene felt like it had less (pardon pun) body than in the manga. In the Manga, Ido does this because Alita was nearly KILLED by Worm. And the damage was so extreme, not only to her, but himself too, that he had to recruit his buddy whom was a cyber-vet-tech. And IIRC, the body she found is basically an immortal war-machine. The original owner actually died in a resting state, so when she finds it, it's still breathing for the long-ago-deceased-user. But, it was adaptive and symbiotic weaponry.

Her eyes are not that big, 1.5x bigger than normal. For me they are beautiful and it makes Alita unique. Also, being from Mars, her eyes are adapted to less sunlight and being a soldier helps to have better vision.

It's a manga/anime adaptation. but they also have an explanation in-movie-lore for them. Everyone from Mars has big eyes. Observe the other berserkers during Alitas flashback
