Bread is a matter of life and death in Egypt, once the provider of grain to the whole Roman Empire but now the biggest importer of wheat in the world.

When Napoleon set foot on Egypt with French army, 1800AD, the total population in Egypt is 2 million, now it is close to 100 Million. The Egyptians can't just fight as a bread problem, the problem is the mentality of the people, the key is education and modern technology, the bright Egyptians should be in engineering studies, not going to military or religious school. The first step should be the total emancipation of women, forget about whatever traditions or holly books say. Industrialization. Or else even if all Egyptians becomes sub-existence farmers, it will remain forever poor and backward.
@yl842
@yl842 8 жыл бұрын
religion and military have nothing to do with this, this is an issue of government impotence with regard to the issue of providing essentials of life. also not sure what "emancipation" of women can do to provide essential resources to the population; women are not chickens, so the whole free range thing does not apply as you cannot legally eat them. ;)

ha do you even know why are you associate engineering with there food issues ..its has nothing to do with religion or military and do you even know what is engineering or engineering studies ? in India we have more engineers than any other country but have that solved many problems we face here ? the issue with the Egypt is the tyrant ruling dictatorship dont blame it on the religion

Shafaqath Sirajuddin Indians and Egyptians face the same threat, the threat of lost generations. Using Indians as an example, from now on, for the next 20 years, every month, 1 million additional Indians youths will reach working age, currently, only 9% are absorbed by the formal sector, 59% stay in the rural villages, as these youths are not gainfully employed, in 20 years, a 20 million lost generation is formed.for India, it is already too late, the whole country still drugged in the incredibly shining Indian fantasy. For Egyptians, if the industrialization path is started now, there is still some hope.

Not only the continuing population explosion is to blame. Egypt has about as much fertile land as my country The Netherlands which is much smaller and only 17 million people.. But all along the Nile they keep building houses on fertlile ground instead of 2 km more to the east or west on desert ground. Losing precious fertile land. In The Netherlands use of ground is all planned, in Egypt it looks like anarchy, nothing planned. In the meantime every 3 weeks there are 100.000 Egyptians born. This is a disaster in the making and its all Egypt's own fault.

The reliance on grain (wheat) is astounding! For a whole 10,000 years since the agricultural area begin in this part of the world. As someone who doesn't eat ay grain at all, in fact, I rely on a high fat, protein and very low carb diet (keto), this is really shocking. Grain is nothing but a filler, no health benefits at all. Look at the oral health of people, and many seem to hold extra body fat. It's a shame there's such a reliance on it for the poor but I can imagine this is for 'control' reasons. Fat (natural sources) gives you freedom. You're able to fast for a long time without being hungry and energy is tripled. It would be interesting to see how changing the staples of diets would go, although that would probably never happen.
@MadamAdam67

If they hadn't built the Aswan Dam then the inundation would still be bringing silt to fertilize the fields and Egypt would be able to feed itself naturally. As it is, the country needs artificial fertilizer to grow wheat and it is more expensive and not as effective. Pull the dam down and re-instate the natural annual inundation and you would have a wealthy country again.

The problem with pro socialism economists is they refuse to see the full economic picture, unfortunately with limited knowledge & understanding of how free markets & macroeconomics work. Who always try to solve scarcity problems with microeconomic policies & planning leading to failures. Wheat like oil and every other commodity is traded globally, making it impossible for any country or company to control & dictate prices. Problem: e.g. inflation & population growth Egypt’s population was 30 million and Oil prices were less than $20 a barrel making subsidies at the time a fraction of government’s budgets. Today Egypt’s population exceeded 100 million , and oil prices over $75 Making it impossible for any government to maintain and continue to subsidize wheat, fuel or any other commodity. Result; A quadruple whammy cost and burned on the government & economy. The solution: 1- gradually lift subsidies while increasing wages to offset inflation 2- replace the military US 🇺🇸 AID received annually worth $billions with wheat, and other necessary commodities 3- start a local agriculture & farming production program & plan to exceed market needs & demand 3- Provide foreign & local investors tax free incentives along with free land for agricultural use 4- Encourage the consumption & production of cheap alternative foods like rice, etc 5- eliminate or Reduce tariffs to a minimal on all food imports.
