I live in Mexico and I am not 100% educated on this conflict, which I understand goes back for several decades. Mexico and Israel hold excellent Diplomatic relations. In fact, Israel was amongst the countries who sent a Brigade to rescue civilians after Mexico City's earthquake in 2017. As an attempt to educate myself, I would appreciate if IDF or an informed party, could fill me in on the following questions: 1) On pro-Palestinian posts, I have read the term "Occupation" and "Settlers" a lot. Is there such a thing as "Occupation"? Is there in present day, any occupation from Israel on Palestinian territory? Are there any Settlers invading Palestinian soil, to build their homes? If so, how is this justified by Israel? 2) If I followed, the author of the October 7th attacks on Israeli Civilians, were "Hamas" Militants. Does "Hamas" represent the entire civilian population of Palestine? If myself or my children were amongst the victims of such attack, I would of course pursue justice and for its authors to be caught and prosecuted. However, I am sure I would NOT want third party-Civilians (mostly CHILDREN, who had NOTHING to do with such attack), to be murdered. Of course HAMAS' attacks on Israel were atrocious and barbaric. But murdering hundreds of inocent Civilians when I retaliate, is also atrocious and barbaric and it does not make me a better person than the attacker who started it. Regardless if my attacker "started it" and I "retaliated", that does not change the fact that BOTH sides are comitting crimes against INOCENT CIVILIANS. So how doesn't that, make the actions from BOTH sides, barbaric? 3) Is "defenfing myself", the same as "taking revenge"? Doesn't "defending myself", mean protecting my front by taking all security measures to PREVENT an attack, BEFORE it happens or worst case scenario, respond WHILE such attack is taking place? Retaliating AFTERWARDS and killing people who had nothing to do with those attacking me, is not "defending myself", but "taking revenge", isn't it? Also, that will only fuel the resentment on the other side, won't it? How is being vengeful productive or the same as "wanting peace"? 4) Is "Revenge" a GOOD thing in Judaism? Does Judaism approve of being vengeful? Being vengeful does not sound like something a God-loving Religious person would approve. Correct? 5) Wouln't being DEFFENSIVE and PROTECTIVE (i.e. securing your borders, as they should have been on Oct 7th) instead of OFFENSIVE (retaliating and killing inocent Civilians as well, on Palestine soil), make Israel "the better person"? Slapping back the person who slapped me (plus slapping all the other people and their children on their street), does not really make me the better person. It puts me at the same moral level of my attacker, since we are both at the same lower levels of damaging capability (regardless of which party started. The same gravity of damages, is being perpetuated by both). 6) What does victory look like to Israel, on this conflict? What is the goal scenario? Is Israel OK with Palestine being a free and independent state, as long as it no longer attacks Israel (but focuses on its own well being)? Would this suffice? Or does Israel intend to invade Palestinian territory and pretty much take over and turn such territory into Israel as well? What should happen to all the inocent Palestinians (children included)? 7) This last question is for anyone supporting HAMAS or Palestine: Does HAMAS equate Palestine or can you support Palestine, without approving the actions of HAMAS? Is HAMAS supported by most Civilians in their ruled area (Gaza)? Or do most people in Gaza do NOT support HAMAS? Does HAMAS hide behind their Civilians? What exactly is HAMAS' mission or main goal? What exactly do they want for Israel? Do they want Israel to leave ALL their current territory or are they open to any sort of "Two State-Solution"? Has Israel proposed a territory-split of any sort (ever)? What was Palestine and/or HAMAS' response to it and why? Why is it so unaceptable that Israel exists as a State? Why not try to co-exist in peace? How has resentment and attacking Israel, been productive for you so far? What have you gained out of that? Why is it not more convenient for Palestine, to accept that Israel is there and move on (and focus on your own growth)? Wouldn't this be an opportunity for Palestine to be "the better person" and PUT PEACE and THE LIVES OF INOCENT CIVILIANS FIRST AND FOREMOST, before what you think is fair? Isn't PEACE and FOCUSING AHEAD, more valuable than perpetuating inocent children and babies dying, because you keep pursuing a cause from various decades ago (which has only worked against you so far)?
