In the northeast of England, which has the highest rate of suicide in the country, men struggle to confront mental health issues. But a group of men from working class backgrounds share their struggle with emotions in the face of violence, trauma and lack of self-love. Each man is dealing with loneliness and isolation while grappling with his own vulnerabilities as he searches for his place in the world. The men reveal the devastating impact of toxic masculinity, the continued stigma surrounding mental health and the heartbreaking toll it inevitably takes. Remarkably, they reveal something else: the power of connection, the strength of community and the hope that comes from sharing their stories.
A Man’s Man is a documentary film by Myles Desenberg.

I've been there. The sense of hopelessness. It's a horrible void. Your loved ones could try their best to make you happy, I felt even more guilty that I wasn't reacting positively to their efforts. It made me feel worse. I'm lucky that I got therapy pre-Covid and my CBT went well enough for me to not feel a sense of dread everyday. Life isn't always supposed to be happiness. The struggle makes you appreciate the little pockets of happiness.

I couldn’t understand stephen fry or the England cricket player when they spoke of their “ constant battle against depression “ whilst one was constantly hosting a tv show & the other regularly walking out at Lords in front of a million viewers because instead of the ‘ you aren’t alone with this because it affects even famous blokes ‘ message it was designed to spread it made me at least & probably others suffering with depression feel as if they were even more pointless for not trying hard enough when not wanting to answer the phone or front door to anyone or anything let alone go & be the centre of attention whilst they entertain or score runs for a country….

Genuinely discovering that it's OK to not be OK is a stepping stone to value and prioritise 'self care' and and the power of 'positive' human connection. Getting together in #ShedCommunity is healthy community by definition, and this brilliant documentary shows, in just a few minutes, how problems develop and fester, but when we share our problems and give others too 'the power of our attention' we once again, turn towards the light. Great work #AlJazeera and all involved 👏 #HonestyWithLove 💕

I'm committing suic*de because of how awful mental health care is in the part of the UK where I live. I have an incurable condition and the only treatment I'm offered is 5 x 1 hour long therapy sessions. If I want more than that, I have to pay. I cannot afford to pay, because I cannot work due to my mental health condition. There is no support, no alternative, nothing.

Loneliness is easier to deal with than depression. But are both the same? I think not I think it's a multitude of things and depression covers it all. Once you really break it down to sections it's more manageable.loneliness. anger. Frustration grief all rolled into one can be very overwhelming.

covid really did me in. Not the virus itself but the psychological aspect of everything else. The lockdowns, job uncertainty, jabbed vs the non jabbed all of it became just too much i was bed bound over the Christmas of 2020/21 constant fear of dying and that my heart was going to just stop or i had heart disease or a big stroke was imminent, its the opposite to what this documentary was on about because these men had thoughts of dying and wanting life to end, mine was the fear of dying and leaving my children behind. I've never been as scared in my life and im still not 100% now. its just almost impossible to explain.

Hey buddy, I think the concept of predestination might help, that your life will come to an end when the creator decides your soul is going back to it’s rightfully owner and you’re no longer the custodian of your kids. You was never born owning your kids and you’re going back owning nothing of them but the good upbringing, education and with what ever inheritances you leave for them. Peace

Covid lockdowns and the ensuing hate campaign against all who questioned it and the medical procedure has given me major mental issues that i'll never ever get rid of. Because of lockdowns i refuse to speak or go near strangers due to anxiety, i'm always cautious about what i say because of fear of rejection, i'm always indoors and lost a lot of the social functions what kept my head in check before. I'll never forget the absolute totalitarian mindset of the majority of people in those times. We as a human race must never stoop to that point and allow them to control us like that again. The only thing that is gonna help me is when people wake up to the complete and utter clown world that we find ourselves in atm

The thing that helps is knowing as a man nobody or nothing is going to help me or understand my problems so i should just be quiet and get on with life. Speaking is for females, men are naturally designed to get on with it. If men are struggling with this then they should blame the water supply and how there's absolutely no questioning about the female birth controls infesting it.
