Palestinians have marked the first day of Eid in the occupied West Bank by visiting the graves of their loved ones.
It’s a tradition many families observe on special occasions.
During the six months of its war on Gaza, Israeli forces have killed 460 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

There it is written who has been in this land since time immemorial and thousands of years before the Arabs knew and accepted Islam. And there it is also written to whom this land belongs. Eid mubarak everyone! Question: In my culture, we visit the graveyard every Eid to pay our respects to our loved ones. Is this allowed in Islam? Answer: I don't recommend this practice. It is not the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. In some areas, the graveyard is right next door to the masjid or very close by, so it's not difficult to visit. In that case it might not be a big issue. Other places, like NYC, visiting the graveyard will take several hours and may even take up the bulk of Eid day. Visiting graves is usually a sad experience, which is contrary to what Eid was legislated for. Furthermore, raising children as a minority in the West means you are competing against the bombardment of kufr celebrations such as Halloween and Christmas. Muslim parents tell their children, "We have our own holidays to enjoy!" but then when our own holiday comes, you make it a sad graveyard visit. It does not strike me as a reasonable decision. You have every other day in the year to visit the graveyard inshaAllah. It gets even worse when people feel *obligated* to visit graves on Eid. They feel it is disrespect to their loved ones if they don't visit on Eid. Now you've landed firmly into bid'ah territory. And Allah does not reward bid'ah, He punishes. And Allah knows best.
