Has the world forgotten Sudan? After more than a year of civil war, Sudan is facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters. Thousands have been killed, millions displaced and children are dying of hunger. In the western region of Darfur, an old conflict has been reignited and there are new warnings about the risk of genocide in the fight for city of el-Fasher. #AJStartHere with Sandra Gathmann explains what’s happening.

The UAE is funding and arming RSF. This isn’t only an “internal” conflict, but it’s being supported by UAE to get their government of choice in charge of Sudan - one that will align to their interests and also normalize relations with Israel.

I would not say that Sudan is forgotten. It is sometimes used by Israel supporters as a deflection. "Look at Sudan so you see how a real genocide looks like." It does feel less important from the perspective of Europe because while we have clear sides in Israel and we are supporting the side that is perpetrating the genocide, we don´t have clear favorite in Sudan.

I agree with you to a certain extent . I think all of these wars and conflicts should all be on the news 24/7 . However with what is happening in Gaza and the Genocide there that will be a difficult task as well with Russia and Ukraine . Not that this war in Sudan is trivial or unimportant. I just recently found out about it . I think we need to stop relying on western Media outlets . Focus on Aljazeera as it gives you news of countries all over the world and with great reliable information that is easily comprehended and digested by the mind .

The world hasn´t abandoned Sudan. The problem is that neither of the warring parties are good guys. Yes, the poor, as always, are being crushed and executed in the war. But, short of a major military action, involving hundreds of thousands of soldiers, the world can do nothing. Even humanitarian aid is simply coopted by the warring parties, so, what can the world do?

It was a payment system problem....when Bashir was in power...the army general for paid thru defense department....the RSF was paid thru national treasury...the problem started when both got rid of Bashir and the national army demanded that the RSF turn in their weapons and personnel and be integrated with the defense department.... otherwise be disbanded....this just another way of saying there's no such a thing as a side army and a number 2 man
