Yoweri Museveni: A five time-elected dictator? | Talk to Al Jazeera

He’s ruled Uganda for 31 years.
With five presidential terms in office, Yoweri Museveni is surrounded by controversies related to freedom of speech, human rights, allegations of nepotism, and even the killing of Ugandan citizens.
But President Museveni claims Uganda is the most democratic country in the world and that he is leading his people out of poverty and to an even better future.
At 72, though, he’s three years away from the constitutional age limit to serve as President. But there is already speculation he will try to change that limit so he can get around it.
We'll discuss all of this in an exclusive interview as he visited the State of Qatar.
Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda, Talks to Al Jazeera.
Al Jazeera
Human Rights Watch, in its latest report, criticised Uganda's government's dealings in terms of human rights. Suppression of free speech, putting dissidents in jail … we have the case of Stella Nyanzi who is still in jail just because she expressed herself. We also have the opposition leader who has been in jail several times. We have the government cracking down on opponents and preventing people from rallying freely. By law, more than five people should have the consent and agreement of the police before they can express themselves in the street.

How can you affirm these lies of a military dictator who has been in power for no less than thirty years, who violates the UN Declaration of Human Rights, -as evidenced by supporting and signing a cruel, criminal and anti-Christian law against peaceful LGTBI people from Uganda, which will punish people with the death penalty and twenty years in prison for being members of an organization that fights for the Human Rights of LGTBI people? HOW CAN YOU BE SUCH A CRUEL PERSON WHO SUPPORTS A DICTATOR WHO SUPPORTS ANTIHUMAN, UNDEMOCRATIC AND MURDEROUS LAWS? YOU HAVE NO DIGNITY OR SHAME SUPPORTING THIS CRUEL DICTATOR. LONG LIVE BOBY WINE THE REAL PRESIDENT OF UGANDA!

You’re a joke, he’s the worst president in Uganda history and most dictator and corrupt, he can’t even speak English properly and in your country you have no human rights and free speech. He should resign from the office because he’s useless and he hasn’t done anything to help the citizens to come out of poverty . He wants to rule the country forever. He had killed his opposition’s allies and some he sentenced them to prison. He’s a monster and evil.

Infrastructure is the poorest in east Africa. He’s corrupt and all his people around him. He uses police and the army to attack and subdue anyone who dares him. We need help especially from you the international media mostly at this election time because we’re left with nothing but only being killed on the streets like cockroaches. Please help us and expose him the more. Thank you sir

Watching this interview again after 6 years and it still captivates my mind. The journalist is so biased he can't hide it. Uganda would not be where it is if it wasn't for President Museveni. I'm not justifying his long stay in power but let me say, in Africa, it's better to have strong leaders that are capable of keeping peace, order and stability, and slowly improving lives and developing their countries, whether they are corrupt, nepotistic or considered to be dictators. Rather than having naive leaders who are weak and unable to keep peace and become western puppets and allow our resources to be looted right under our noses while we think we are being helped.

Watching fron USA. What different does it make? You are a Kenyan and Kenya is still ruled more worse than this. Kenya is ruled by one family since independent either economicly or ruling. You may not be on the wall as a ruler but if you control the land and economic then you are the ruler. I think Uganda is more better than your country. May be you are a Kenyan but you have not gone to Uganda where young people doing great business while your country since then who was rich is richer and who was poor is poorest. If your family is not known, you can't get a simple thing like a job. @@esthernzisa6284 the problem of one African country is the problem of all African countries. This is shared stupidity of you to start bringing up something that has nothing to do with the fact Mr Faraj presented. @@rumanzimedard3421 As a westerner, we didn't kill Gaddafi. His own people did. We supported them in their efforts with air strikes because Gaddafi had been supplying terrorists both in the west and elsewhere for decades. The terrorist groups he supported had no ideological similarities, he was simply trying to cause as much chaos as possible. Furthermore, he only turned to Pan-Africanism (which he interpreted as the murderous example of Idi Amin) when he was overlooked by his Baathist and Pan-Arabist dictator friends. Do you think that someone who called Condezzla Rice (an American) an "African princess" really identifies with African unity? I have nothing against Pan-Africanism and I applaud organisations like the AU and the East African Community. Trust me when I say that there are many Europeans, even European politicians, who recognise the evils of colonialism and wish Africa and Africans the best.
