An escalation in skirmishes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces is raising fears of a wider conflict.
Saturday marked the worst day in recent fighting along Israel's northern border with Lebanon, after six Hezbollah fighters were killed.
The Iranian-backed group and Israel have been exchanging fire across that border since Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7.
So what could happen if it launches a full offensive?
Presenter: James Bays

Basically he’s saying they’re going to kill Lebanese civilians just like Gaza! Yes! He actually said that!! These people really have no shame!! And so arrogant! But they are never held accountable and they are never called terrorists by the western media and governments, but if this isn’t terrorism.. what is!!???

yeah literally, saying hezb will use civillians as human shields BEFORE anything has happened just shows how twisted and unconscionable that state is, its propoganda plain and simple. Its deeply concerning and I'm worried how long the west will remain peaceful because our governments are refusing to acknowledge the masses on the streets protesting against their support for Israels g3n0cide

I'm Lebanese, I was in the Dahyeh area (Beirut's Southern suburbs) that was mentioned by Nicholas Noe in the context of the "Dahyeh Doctrine", in the Summer of 2006. So I know first hand what abject disregard for civilian mass-casualties Israel's "doctrine" means. The neighbourhoods of Burj al-Barajneh and Bir el-Abed - which were right across the Airport Highway from where I was - were turned into what Gaza looks like today. They bombed residential buildings, sports stadiums, schools, mosques, hospitals, bridges, highways - everything. And at that point of mass terror among the population, even Hizb's most bitter enemies within Lebanon, the followers of assassinated Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, threw their entire weight behind Hizb, who were seen as the only power standing between them and the Israeli attackers. As somebody who hates Hizb with a passion myself, I can tell you that anyone who thinks that bombing civilian targets in Lebanon is going to turn the population against Hizb doesn't have a clue about what they're talking.

Neutral question: is it possible that Hizb/Hamas etc provoke Israel knowing that they always overreact by destroying everything in sight, thereby getting more population behind Hizb/Hamas? No offence meant, I condemn the terrible carnage Israel is causing. But I can't imagine that whoever was behind the attacks in Israel a few weeks ago didn't know that Israel would react like that.
@JoseAngelFlores
@JoseAngelFlores 7 ай бұрын
You mean that Hezbollah and Hamas have never targeted civilians in Israel? And that they never hide among their populations in Gaza and Lebanon? That they never fire rockets from highly populated neighborhoods? that they don't use their populations as human shields?, that is precisely why there are always large numbers of civilian casualties when Israel fights against those two terrorist organizations, because they hide among civilians.

We Were Caught Unprepared: The 2006 Hezbollah-Israeli War Matt M. Matthews (U.S Army Security Analyst) The Long War Series, Occasional Paper 26 *U.S. Army Combined Arms Center* *Combat Studies Institute Press, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas* Here are some excerpts from the paper: *Hezbollah launched a raid in Northern Israel killing 7 soldiers and taking 2 prisoner as well as destroying a tank* Humiliated by this raid, the IDF launched an air campaign against Hezbollah with the goal of paralyzing the group once and for all thus neutralizing the threat they posed. Thus the 2006 Lebanon war began with the IDF bombing Lebanon and Hezbollah shooting rockets. However this created a rift within the IDF, some IDF Generals believed that air power was all that was needed. Bomb Lebanon for 2-3 months and Hezbollah will collapse, this was unpopular with the IDF ground forces: The air campaign could not destroy the Katyushas (falling on northern Israel at a rate of approximately 100 a day), and the proposed ground-based raids would certainly have little effect. As one distraught Israeli officer commented, “That didn’t make sense at all. You either activate MEY MAROM [and] occupy the entire rocket launch area, or you don’t-but there is absolutely no sense in raids. They were not going to stop the rockets, yet soldiers can get killed. It is risk without reward.” *We Were Caught Unprepared p. 43* Eventually the IDF Staff folded and on July 17, orders were sent down to begin an invasion of Lebanon. *And so failure after failure began* The IDF had acquired a superiority complex assuming Arabs were braindead savages easily killed and brushed aside this saw training and even the capabilities of IDF units decline, the IDF was thus not only horrified to find that Hezbollah wasn’t a group of savages but a rather competent armed force but horrified that it couldn’t actually accomplish its mission. *As one Israeli Special Forces soldier from Maglan explained* The Special Forces soldiers were stunned by the volume of gunfire and the doggedness of the Hezbollah fighters. Another Maglan reported, “We expected a tent and three Kalashnikovs-that was the intelligence we were given. Instead, we found a hydraulic steel door leading to a well-equipped network of tunnels.” By the next morning, the Maglans were virtually surrounded. It was reported from northern headquarters that “the commander of the IDF’s northern sector, Lieutenant-General Udi Adams, could barely believe that some of his best soldiers had been so swiftly trapped; neither could the chief of staff. ‘What’s wrong with the Maglans?’ Halutz demanded to know. ‘They are surrounded,’ Adams replied quietly. ‘I must send in more forces.’” We Were Caught Unprepared p. 44 *Israeli special forces were trapped by Hezbollah and needed to be rescued, this was due to the decline in training standards since the 1980s. The IDF didn’t expect to fight actual wars* In the conventional arena, the IDF ground forces performed unsatisfactorily. The fight at Wadi al-Saluki, for example, revealed the failure of tank commanders and crewmen to use their smokescreen systems, the lack of indirect-fire skills, and the total absence of combined arms proficiency. The IDF lost many of these perishable combat skills during its long years of COIN operations against the Palestinians. We Were Caught Unprepared p. 63 *In fact some Israeli soldiers refused to step foot in Lebanon in fear of dying* *A reserve engineering officer who was ordered to clear a road running into Bint Jbeil refused, his men complaining that “10 soldiers had already died there.” The brigade commander had the entire platoon arrested and carted off to jail* We Were Caught Unprepared p. 49 *The Israelis were aware of these issues, it wasn’t a secret. One Israeli soldier event talked about it with a News reporter, telling the reporter* In the past six years I’ve only had a week’s training. Soon after we arrived, we received an order to seize a nearby Shi’ite village. We knew that we were not properly trained for the mission. We told our commanders we could control the village with firepower and there was no need to take it and be killed for nothing. Luckily we were able to convince our commander. . . . For the last six years we were engaged in stupid policing missions in the West Bank. . . . Checkpoints, hunting stone-throwing Palestinian children, that kind of stuff. The result was that we were not ready to confront real fighters like Hezbollah. We Were Caught Unprepared p. 49 *Hizb are not the same they were in 2006 and they are a bigger army than several hundred and more advanced, Israel will turn into what is Gaza now as well, the arrogant Israeli is clueless just like \israel was clueless and arrogant about Hamas, All Israeli officials are doing on TV is running their mouths*

This war must be finished quickly, and a swift move to authorise statehood to the Palestinians be effected thereafter. Reconciliation, generosity of spirit, and mutual understanding between victims and oppressors are the only way to break this unending cycle of violence. Terrorism against civilians in all of its forms must be condemned and occupation and oppression must end. He's lost around 9 million citizens, a fair amount skilled, the economy is tanked, and he couldn't even assist in getting timely aid to quake victims. He's the ruler of a wreck. Hamas, Hezbollah, and IDF now seem determined to follow that model. Someone needs to be the grown-up and say "enough, already." One or more of you, I dare you. Show the world you can really be concerned for your people, that you have the maturity to meet civilly at a negotiating table. 🤬💔🇵🇸🇮🇱🇱🇧🕊️🌍🫂

Peace is proceeded by truth. Until the truth is embraced, peace cannot become an actual reality. Achieving peace is a process. It's objective and both sides must want it. Iran could sponsor peace but chooses to sponsor terrorism. The world of Islam must choose between a spiritual leader or a future for Islam. I tell you the truth. The people of God must rise up against Evil.

The Israeli retired General is more of a propagandist rather than an analyst. The decision for Israel to withdraw its forces from the northern frontier is one which I see as the best option for the forces, mountainous terrain doesn't favour any force in the world especially in this type of weather and an predictable weather patterns like earth quakes going on and floods. For hisbullah I think it's prepared for an all out war including air strikes as I clearly remember the group having batteries and more air defence systems it can even install them within this couple of days as Israeli focuses on its southern frontier. Am more worried of sea attack for hisbullah which is very unlikely considering the terrain and the presence of Russian ships. Aground invasion is totally out of the question on the side of Israel its reduced to air strikes and using missiles For both frontiers. Aground invasion would totally annilate Israel for it cannot withstand a war lasting 2months or below that Most of its citizens who of course hard dual citizenship have left the country those that were abroad will take time to mobilise them they are mear militias than an actual force and is incapable of maintaining order or even displine. Lastly no one wants to join a force that kills its own because of a useless law. And the economic situation for the US is very hard since its involved in two wars that in Ukraine and now isreal. Europe is headed for tough winter it stream of energy infact in excess as weather patterns that are changing suggest its going to be tough and long winter and that should be its major priority with rising oil prices I doubt if some of the countries can deliver their promises to Israel whose economy is already collapsing with high inflation rates only high risk takers can profit from lending a hand to Israel. Both have an impact. The clock is tiking the end of the American empire may as well be much visible for analyst I predict should the Israeli conflict last more than 2months u will see a financial quake worse than the 2008 crush.

The strategy of hitting the Gaza to surrender Hamas has not worked at all still rockets are coming from Gaza non stop because 1000s of bombs have only served to destroy civilian infrastructures and have not even properly touched Hamas and even after such carnage of Gaza Hamas is not stopping or surrendering but after few days Gaza citizens are also getting resolved to stand up and not run, so how does attacking Lebanon cities will make Hezbollah stop fighting ? , More possibility is that will pull Lebanon in fight too and people of Lebanon will rally fully against Israel by supporting those fighting against Israel and new fronts will open against Israel. The strategy that those who have taken arms to fight by being ready to die will have change of heart by seeing others dying seems like an very different never tried strategy to win a war generated from no where and it is not working in Gaza.

The facts are, you can’t destroy Hamas. Hamas is a movement, not a group… IDF has no clue what they are doing, they are creating more instability.

The bombing campaign is meant to degrade Hamas' ability to fight, ahead of the ground invasion. This is a common military strategy.

The word proportionate makes me laugh were the Germans proportionate when they bombed Coventry and Rotterdam Where the British proportionate when they bombed Hamburg and Dresden were the Americans proportionate when they dropped Atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the fire bombing of Tokyo which H killed more civilians than Hiroshima I could go on of course when the Israelis do it it's disproportionate what Hypocrisy don't you think the Israelis know all of this it's a word loved by the British since they gave up their Empire and the good old USA has mimicked it no such thing as proportionate in war and all politicians know it

@@user-pb2xd7ur4u the difference is that Germany was not fighting against a besieged people firing rockets. A people who are so poor they depend on world aid to survive. Their land, sea and air controlled by Germany. No, Germany didn't have that leverage to begin with. So you're argument is flawed. With this false equivalence, it shows you aren't that bright😂

Okay, the US (my country) being so involved and the unconditional support of Israel already did not sit right with me. This conversation made me feel even stronger that i want no parts of it. Especially knowing that Gaza has no one supporting them unconditionally. Of course hazballah would have their backs, and then that means the US would join in full stop, then you have a world war with terrorists no less, not even countries. It feels, to me, that Israel is taking advantage of our "friendship" because they know that we'll support them no matter what, no questions asked 😢

We really need to consider how we use the word "terrorist". Nelson mandela was labelled a terrorist. These "terrorist" groups are these people's only form of real defence. If you have a military, you aren't a terrorist apparently, even though we all know the US and western powers terrorise so many countries and people

@@Lyralikesit I agree, the fact they allowed the Oct 7th attack to happen says it all. Israel was warned by Egypt of potential violence THREE DAYS before Hamas' deadly cross-border raid, a US congressional panel chairman has said. Of coarse Bibi lies and says it is not true. No this is what Israel has wanted to do for decades. Biden and his overwhelmingly Jewish cabinet are simply ignoring this genocide, as if Israel has the right to ethnic cleansing. How can they cry about the Holocaust then do this.
