Awesome job my brother. They each have their pros and cons for sure. Can be a great video for those thinking about running multiple units also. For the average guy, a lot of information about narrowing down to one unit also. Would have liked to have seen a comparison on all 3 units Side Scan, but loved how honest you were about everything. Bottom line, great job!! Too bad the companies can't see how important what you did this year was. Bet all 3 sell more units because of this video!!

Love the new electronics!!!! Can't afford any of them but man they've come a long way!!! Was a Hummingbird fan in the 80s & 90s. Had 2 on my Tracker TF 1800 & loved them to death!!! Help me win a couple of tournaments. Now,.... it's a whole new ball game . I don't blame you for comparing them side by side 👌👍👍. Great video JC 👊👊

Just got home and I had a strange day. First I had a good frog bite then the sun came out and it was a drop shot rig or no fish. Couldn't get a bite on anything I tried. Fish are spooked and holding tight to structure. Water was extremely clear but I caught my share. Have a great day JC

Really great video after watching this I wish all the bass tournaments would ban electronics that used to be some of my favorite fishing to watch is the old guys fishing with their instincts and where they think is best!! the best would be the ones with instinct and put more time even though this stuff is so cool and I’m going to get one I feel like all these lakes are just getting hammered by people that would never catch these fish before without these tools!!!

Great comparison video on these units. I can't wait to see your video for settings for livescope. Biggest issue i have with it is seeing my lure dropping further out from boat lets say 40-50 ft away. Other than that i see the fish and structure fine. Thanks

Quite helpful! Had a Garmin in the last boat I sold, but I didn't use it to its potential. Now looking to outfit a kayak with a FF/GPS, primarily for saving waypoints, depth, and fish in deep water. Did you try waypoints on the Garmin or Humminbird, or just stick to the Lowrance since you knew that feature on that brand? Video seems to indicate you think that feature is superior by a good bit on the Lowrance. Thanks again for a great video!

Great content sir. I can’t blame you for exploring all the major brands for yourself. Now you know, at least until everything changes again! 😊 Thanks for the 360 silicone tip - I’m heading to the shop to apply some. Do you really think the precision sonar brace for the 360 transducer is a necessity?

Can you show the transducer mounts and the Bass Technologies mount. I run Lake Okeechobee a lot and in rough water in my Bass Cat Caracal. They get loose or even damage due to crashing through the waves.
@shawnz42702 жыл бұрын
I think the big difference between the side scan on the Lowrance and the Humminbird Mega is the frequency they operate at. With Lowrance working on either 455 or 800 mhz, I fell like you have the ability to see more at longer distances, especially using 455 mhz. It think the Humminbird will give better images at shorter ranges because it works in the higher frequency range (1050-1175 mhz). I agree with you 100% on they all have there own strengths and weaknesses. Thanks for sharing your honest opinions and hopefully it can help others make the decision on which brand, or brands, to go with. Can’t wait to see how you like the Active Target after spending a year using Garmin LiveScope.

Hey John, great stuff! How would you, or did you, compare 2D/Downscan/Side on the Garmin as compared to the others? Or is it safe to say that since you didn’t have it in your dash the other two were better?

This is as good of a "Practical Modern Electronics: 101" that I have seen, and I don't THINK I've missed too many. Really good to see honest head to head comparisons without the usual sponsor plug pressure. Very UNLIKE the usual "3 Legends" style of "education" (advertising) which, unfortunately, is still prevalent to this day. You could really turn this into a very valuable electronics series if you so desired.

Got my first boat last summer and thought I needed all new graphs and found out I can catch fish without them and I’m not starring at a screen all day. Going off the top of the dome. The Humminbird Solix is the unit that competes with the Lowrance HDS live. To compare the Humminbird Helix to the best of Lowrance, is a massive plus for Humminbird. Humminbird goes even better with the new Apex range. I have fished on boats with Humminbird Helix g4n and Lowrance HDS Live. The Humminbird units are hands down better on down and side scan.
@JohnCrews2 жыл бұрын
Solix are good when they work. Bird and Lowrance each have advantages in side and down
@bukshuman73462 жыл бұрын
@@JohnCrews thank you kindly for replying. I have great admiration and respect for you, for achieving so much on the water and in the bass fishing industry. The Lowrance Ti range compares/competes with the Humminbird Helix range. The Lowrance HDS Live compares/competes with the Humminbird Solix. The Humminbird Helix is a robust, no nonsense unit. The Lowrance Ti tops the Humminbird Helix with touch scene and 2D sonar. The Humminbird Helix is definitely beter on Side scan and Down scan than the Lowrance Ti , expecially in shallower water. The Humminbird Helix has a much brighter display and more detailed image. The Lowrance Ti has more functions and ease of use. The Humminbird functions are basic and user friendly. As a fishing tool, the Humminbird Helix is the best "bang for buck" unit,

I have two Helix 9's, chirp, si, GPS gen2 at the console an just chirp, gps, gen2 at the Ultrex.. basically that's all I could afford and I felt like with the money that I had to play with that was the best I could do.. this is a prime example of the argument that keeps going back and forth about how much money it takes to compete.. I feel like if you and I were put on the same body of water that neither one of us had ever fished before, you're going to come out in front every time.. I mean just look, you could play fortnite or fish at the same time at the front of your boat.. there's no way I've got that option with the budget I had.. I'll plan on doing some upgrades eventually.. but I feel like each time I get ready to upgrade I'll be behind the curb because I can't work three jobs just to have each brand at the front of my boat and I feel like that's what it takes is a job for each brand for what things cost!! Now at the same time there's a guy that fishes in my club that doesn't even run a graph on the front of his boat he just runs maps and 2D sonar at the console and the dude is a stick.. and he's extremely hard to compete with.. not much older than me, doesn't really have that much of an advantage on me as far as motor and boat and gear.. but when it comes to the guys that have $100,000 under their ass at any given moment while they're fishing.. you got to admit that's extremely hard to compete with and there's no chance that I would ever make it to the elites unless I've got some extra budget behind me pushing me.. and I'm not taking anything away from you or the hard work that you put into getting the setup that you have. Obviously running all three you're paying out of pocket, but I would be scared to be honest with you to have that much glass sitting in front of me flipping pitching fishing.... I don't know I'm all in my head after seeing this because there's just a substantial difference and what guys like me will ever be able to do or wear the ceiling is for us when there's no chance of us being able to sit behind all that and driving straight past everything that you can see that I can't!!! Who knows maybe one of these scratch offs will pay one day 😂😂🕺🕺.. not hating, please understand that! I just wish I had a chance to compete against the best of the best just to see exactly where I stand and I know there's thousands and thousands and thousands of guys across the country that think the same thing. But there's just no way even WITH the chance we would be able to compete against THIS!!!!! Keep on keepin on, stay safe and tight lines brother.

It is probably not a fair comparison if the frequency is not set at the same or at least a similar frequency. Mega imaging with a higher frequency does not reach as far as a lower frequency setting as in Lowrance.

18:50 kinda like how utah politicians outlawed game camera's because they said it would guarantee a elk kill, which is absolutely not true! Do they help , maybe a little bit but definitely wasn't worthy of outlawing them, same thing with livescope at least as far as bass fishing goes their not a big if help as people think. Now as far as crappie goes, yes their deadly, but even then if you throw small crappie back into the water they will shut the pile down and all crappie will stop biting! I've seen it numerous times myself, you must wait until you get ready to leave before throwing small crappie back in the water. But crappie are prolific spawners and I don't think the population will be hurt as long as limit's are followed. I say this because old timers still catch limit's without livescope and do it regularly!

Also I think electronics are really taking a lot of the fishing brain out of fishing and making it like a video game. Plus it's SO EXPENSIVE and too expensive for the average angler to afford that stuff.

@@JohnCrews wasn't trying to be an ass but it boils down to the dollar bill once again. I did this gig before and did well but a divorce and other issues set me back 20 years, but now I have some income to dispose of and think it is just ridiculous how technology (just like the corn feeders) did to deer hunting which turned it into deer killing. Your not hunting your using 5% skill sets. Pull the electronics away, especially the live scope and make this a more instinctive sport again. I threw 3 times the fish didn't follow next spot, come on man! Oh wait that was a Liberal Joe saying. Just start dividing tournaments into what category of graphs your running. Your boat open division just like stock cars everyone races but only compete against their said class. Because only wealthy Homer's who think they can fish can afford what these tournaments are serving at the dinner table. A real restructuring is needed but and I quote I am not in Randy Blauket corner we need technology but we need different classes. We can all fish the same day pay the same entry but we are only competing against those in our class. Now that's an opinion and a plan!
