​@dambagaming8288 here's the shortest way I can explain that. The music alphabet goes from A to G, then starts over again. Now, in between those letters you have sharps (#) and flats (b). Here's the notes on the big E string to the 12th fret: Open is E 1st fret F 2nd is F# or Gb 3rd is G 4th is G# or Ab 5th is A 6th is A# or Bb 7th is B 8th is C 9th is C# or Db 10th is D 11th is D# or Eb 12th is E again. The starting point of the pattern determines the key.

​@@ricardomadleno564..you can use any shape of the scale, as the tonic C and its relative minor Am7, which is the 6th degree, have the same notes, they are consonants.. even, thinking about C7M, you can use your scale/chord from your Anti-relative Em, 3rd degree in improvisation.

A minor is C major same scale you just start/land on or emphasize different notes. if you playing Am start/land on or emphasize the A. if CM start/land on or emphasize the C. or start/land on the notes in the A chord or C chord respectively

idk if this is why but ima just say look at the notes on the scale the first position starts in A which is the first note then the second note is C then D Then E then G then they repeat all the positions start on one of thise

@@renesaenz5463 So only ONE is a true A minor pentatonic, the rest are like the modes of the Major Scale, i.e. E phrygian or D dorian respectively.

It’s different shapes because the way the guitar is tuned. Just remember it’s the same notes repeating over and over so just because you see a different position starting on a different route note that doesn’t mean you’re playing in that key you’re so in the key of a. And those other positions are part of the key of a so it all works out.

I'm late but yes, you would just start at the root note of whatever minor key you're playing in, so Gm would have box 1 start at the 3rd fret, Bm would have box 1 at the 7th, Cm at 8th... and so on. I found these shapes by just messing around but I watch so many A'minor backing tracks youtube recommended me this video lol Oh and the major pentatonic starts 3 frets lower than the minor pentatonic, so the Am pentatonic starts on the 5th fret box 1 and the AMajor pentatonic has box 1 start at the second fret, CMajor pentatonic is the same as Aminor pentatonic but youre emphasizing the tonic (root note) in that scale. I hope this helps, it opened my eyes to the fret board, like a light bulb went off.

What works for me is to practice one position until you are familiar with it and then learn another one. Eventually it becomes muscle memory.

Yes but the key determines where your pattern is on the fret board.

Well, you can see a g major in that same shape, but an e minor aswel. In the caged system the first pentatonic shape everyone learns is the G major shape in caged. So from here you can line up the other shapes aswel. The same goes for this shape. You can use your pinky on the A and play the same shape you do, this will be on A major. But if you would’ve line up the scale with your index on that A note, you are playing the A minor pentatonic.

Because it has b3 in it.

It really comes down to context (chord progressions). In this case, it's easier to hear the minor key because this scale starts on the A. There are some patterns tho that don't start on it. That's when context comes in.
