Got access along with the Nickle Nibbler to detect an old 1890's train house. The house has been slightly modernized over the decades but some of those original treasures are still inches below the grassline! We dug quite a few treasures and the Nibbler finally broke his coinless streak too! All Aboard everyone and join us on the hunt.
Don't forget to keep sending those Quarter Hoarder logo pics in. Starting next Thursday I'll be adding your pics randomly in the videos so don't get left out. You can email them to me at:

The large iron pin ( looks like one of the old weights for a window) is actually used to go thru a large oblong link that pinned the rail cars together before they had the present coupler they use today. The fork is for cleaning out golf shoe treads. Love your show. Keep it safe and keep it fun.

The big pin is from the railroad. The original coupling system was known as "link and pin". That's the pin. It was a very dangerous couplet as the worker had to stand between two cars as they were moved together. IIRC, it was mostly replaced in the 1890's.

Hopefully more friendly faces keep answering the door! lol Take care and happy hunting to you as well

Cool finds! Congrats to Nibbler on finding a coin spill. That fork thing 7:20 looks like an old golf marker. Most are 2-tined but some are 4. The heavy post is definitely a link pin from the RR. Before knuckle couplers were invented, workers had to couple cars by dropping these pins into heavy oval iron rings. The system resulted in a lot of injuries, mostly crushed fingers.
@QuarterHoarder
@QuarterHoarder 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Charlie, and you are correct on both ID's The first object was a golfing tool. It had the homeowner's initials on it so we returned it to him. He lost it over 20 years earlier! The large iron was also an old train car link pin. I called a train museum and they dated it circa 1880!

That "phallic" thing is an old pin for linking rail cars together. There were BIG chain type links on the rail cars. when the cars got close enough, they would drop those pins in to link the cars together. This system was abandoned because many workers got either their hands crushed or lost fingers.

Nice rainy dig lol. Definitely a train knuckle pin the lead was most likely from the large sewer drains in basements and under houses would used large amounts of lead to seal the joints so much they used a burner on a propane tank to melt down about 15-20 lbs worth. So they sometimes would dump out the small amount left over right on the ground. I took plumbing in a trade school yrs ago and we were showed how it was done. Love those merc dimes. Hh

I read below the big pin is said to be from the RR. But they also use pins like that to pull discs behind large tractors. That said the train cars back there were not so heavy. but it is either one or the other. I sold some just about like that for hitch pins on old Caterpillars.
@QuarterHoarder

I sent pictures of mine to a locomotive museum and they confirmed that this one was a railroad cupping pin, probably around 1880. I was pretty stumped when I first found it so I do appreciate the ID help with it. The tractor pins looked pretty similar to me too

The hammer was bent at the middle, there was a 5" crack running about 2" above the rim up. Inside the bell, the crack was about 1/4" wide. Outside, about 1 1/2 to 2" wide. I know there are several types of bells-this was similar to our brown(rusted) bell, which was mounted on a post. Pull the rope and you get the bell to ring. The black bell was smaller, without the mount. There was nothing on the clapper to move it.

Found it about 27 years ago. It's long gone. I found a lot of old milk bottles, one brown glass 1/2 gallon bottle from McDonald Dairy. Found out it was for orange juice. Peoples pop bottle. A skyscrapper shaped Mowhawk bottle that I pulled out from under a fallen tree, thinking it might have been broken, but it came out whole. Finds like these are awesome, especially when it was family who tossed them out.

The carpenter's tool is a good guess, however, it looks an architectural drawing adjustable t-square. That mass of lead is spill over from leading cast iron pipes, that's how we sealed cast iron waste pipe joints doing plumbing before ABS pipes.

+Rachel Thompson I think you're right on the money about the spill over lead. It was all over the yard is strange hardened patterns too. I gave up digging that signal after about 1/2 hour.

I just stored in against a tree until the end. Made 3 trips back and worth getting all the trash and heavy iron out of the yard. The large piece turned out to be a old railroad link pin used to connect 2 train cars. It is from around 1880 and may have been my favorite find on the hunt.

That "Angulator" slides in the groove of a table saw, then you loosen the bolt or screw to make angle cuts in your wood. Still made that way today, but without the rust.

I have one of the links, thought it was part of a logging chain. It is hand forged and hand welded, Till I saw Aqua chigger pulling them out from the water near the B&O railroad, I also saw him get some of the pins, and I should have recognized what you had. My (Chain) link weighs about 20 lbs. Nice catch.
