I would really appreciate a tutorial on the different types of wire eg, gold plated, sterling silver, etc. Which ones tarnish?
@uluvnic

That's exactly what I was wondering. I'm not confused by the size, but if I'm to sell jewelry at a higher price, it needs to last and not tarnish.

Hello! Thanks for asking about this. Unless wire has a tarnish-resistant coating added during manufacturing, all metal tarnishes over time to varying degrees. You can use polishing cloths to keep your metals polished! And here is a video about different kinds of jewelry-making wire :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qqeKechytp7NeXk.html?mcid=XSOjsyt

I just discovered Susan’s videos and have been binge watching them. So skilled, clear, insightful and such beautiful designs. Unfortunately, I bought a lot of wire before watching her videos, so I have a lot of 22 gauge wire. I haven’t seen any tutorials that use this size yet. Does Susan have any tutorials using 22 gauge wire (aside from eyepins)? Or does anyone else have a favorite tutorial that uses this wire size? Thank you in advance!
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 2 жыл бұрын
Don't fret about having too much 22ga. You can use it for all sorts of things because it is a good general-purpose wire. It's a bit too thick to fit through most beads, BUT it has excellent durability and is easy to work with for most jewelry projects. We'll see if we can't feature it in a video for you! By the way, You can never have too many eye pins or head pins! Jewel School is always sold out of the pre-made ones. Take this opportunity to make a bunch of them. You might even be able to sell some to fellow crafters in need! @@JewelSchool Thank you so much. I would *love* to see a video on 22ga wire. Susan‘s video about her favorite things to do with different sizes of wire was so interesting and insightful, I wish there were more. Maybe a more in-depth version of that one? Or tutorials that focus on each of the wire sizes? Thanks for the link.

Love your videos. I completely new to jewelry making and your videos are my number 1 go to. I use silver plated wire to make the items in ur video. I am noticing nicks and scratch’s. When I try to buff out it seems to show a light copper underneath. You don’t use the plastic on ur tools. Wondering what I am doing wrong. And when I burnish an end it takes off the silver completely. Advice would be greatly appreciated

That's funny. The different gages are just like in healthcare then in terms of the gage of the needle. An 18G is a larger needle to draw up solution & a 25 gage is a smaller needle we use to administer medication. I didn't realize it crossed over into other industries. Very informative video.

Thank you for the information. Silver plated, gold plated do tarnish overtime so how or what is needed to clean those tarnished silver plated or gold plated jewellery to bring back its shine? While cleaning those plated wires beads do come in contact, so will beads get damaged while cleaning those plated wires?

What kind of wire is safe to use for people with allergies. Great tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Martha! It depends on the type of allergy. Usually, it's best to stick to a pure metal like gold or silver. You can see if a gold plated wire 14k, 10k, etc.(where the gold is touching your skin and not the base metal) might work. Good luck!
