Awesome idea, of knitting houndstooth! I am in a cap knitting phase, so houndstooth in the round would be interesting to do. And also, Glenn Johnson's idea of doing this in double knitting would be fantastic! Thank you for this tutorial.

Mmmm! Interesting idea! I think it might work, but it all comes down to trying to translate the natural woven pattern into the more grid-like structure you’re stuck with when knitting. It’s tricky!
