This reminds me of the crochet technique for making bobbles. Many stitches into one, bunching up in texture. Fun!

Thanks once again. I am knitting a sweater with a lace hem with nupps. I ripped this out and reknit it more than I care to admit. Thank goodness I am a “process” knitter.😂. You hit those pitfalls spot on. I fell into every one of those pits! Wish me luck- I am attempting this once again.

Best nupp video ever! I've not really done them at all before (or even many bobbles) since I don't find them all that appealing, but my next project has several of them. I keep telling myself "I can always use a crochet hook if I have to" but after seeing your video, I feel a lot more confident about them. Now go to practice.... As always, thanks Suzanne!

This is the choice video for executing nupps ! Like that you demonstrate clearly & slowly how to knit a nupp English or Continental but importantly how to avoid pitfalls Brilliant! No more hyperventilating 🤗

Thank you so much for this instructive video! I'm knitting a cobweb estonian shawl, starting durin g a journey- and the most challenging thing to chose this pattern were some nupps... and I totally failed to mekae them. I understood the written principle, but I had the fals needles:-( no chance to get through the loops!) So I changed the pattern there (because I wanted to go on) and replaced the nupp by a hole, which is lovely, but I hate to give up... Now I see clearly how they are done and I learned that there is not only lace yarn but also special lace needles!!! Great, I'll buy some and start to practise!

I like how you hold the yarn. Does that make purling faster? I use those rainbow loom bands as stitch markers
@SuzanneBryan

Yes, it does, for me. Each person finds their method for holding the yarn.

Thank you Suzanne. I will try it. I even ordered sharp knitting needles (hiyahiya). If it does not work for me I will try Myra Woods version "easy peasy nupp" also here on KZfaq. She uses a crochet hook and finishes the nupp in the same row.

I'm working on a chunky stole right now. Not liking how the bobbles are looking so I was thinking about nupps instead. This vid found me today, so thank you! P.S. I've always called them nups like ups, not noops like oops. 😄

Thank you. In Estonia, where the nupps originated, they pronounce it like the soup. But in the US, people tend to pronounce them like ups. Happy knitting.

Hi Suzanne . I am making an Estonian shaw in cobweight yarn a mixture of camel & silk (3mm hiya hiya) Despite watching your video I am finding it virtually impossible to keep the 7 stitches that make the loop in sequence , yarn overs and knit stitches wont stay in order, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Try using a needle that has a little "grip" to it, like wood.

how much of a difference is there between ups and bobbles. I can see in the cups you do yarn overs, but in bobbles you kinit front and back. Can you substitute cups for bobbles and vice versa?

Hi Brian. If you are not already on Ravelry, my suggestion would be to create an account and seek advice there. I know there are many knitters that would be amenable to assisting you. I personally have not done this particular pattern.

Nupps are cute! In what types of garments are you using them? Thank you.
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 3 жыл бұрын
Traditionally they are used in Estonian Lace, but you can apply them instead of a bobble if you choose. 😀

@@SuzanneBryan It sounds lovely. Currently, I’m becoming obsessed with socks, but I want to knit a long lightweight vest for myself. I bet I could place a few nupps here and there! Thanks

Nupps have been a curse in my lace knitting for years. I tend to drop the nupp on the second row. Is there a way to recover from that without tinking back to the previous row? Thank you.
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you drop the whole nupp, turn your work to the RS, put the single stitch that the nupp used to be in, on the left needle, hold the big loop that used to be the nupp to the back of the work and with the right needle, rework the nupp through the stitch on the left needle using the big loop to make the nupp loops on the right needle. Then turn to WS and try to work the nupp again. I hope you subscribe to my channel if you haven't already and enjoy the rest of my videos. Happy knitting.
