This is a condensed documentary about the making of the legendary movie. Look for the little people they used in the hangar sequence. On camera comments by Henry Mancini and others who were actually involved in the film.

Casablanca is my favorite all time film. So many classic lines. And one of the best critiques I ever heard about any movie is what Roger Ebert (I think. Not sure) said about Ingrid Bergman's reaction to Bogey: "She paints his face with her eyes."

This film will be still haunting lovers of romance and adventure a thousand years from now.

Narrated by Bogie's wife, Lauren Bacall (who could forget that voice!). This was such a classic movie - the shadows, the background music, such top-notch acting and fast paced action. Oh yes, the atmosphere! Could watch this movie at least once a year and never get tired of it.

Not accurate, about Bacall, otherwise yes it is a classic

I am certain have you on this one, doppster (her voice at 3:34 is unmistakable). No matter - I agree it is a classic.

The emotional core of the film is the difference between Victor’s and Rick’s attitude to Ilsa. Rick is in love with her and feels bettrayed but Victor loves and understands her and would give anything for her safety. Rick is confronted with the pettiness of his feelings. This is why the climax is so good. Maybe there is another film or work of art which has had a love triangle like this, but I haven’t seen it. It’s easily my favourite films of all time.

Several years ago I was able to see Casablanca at the local Cinemark theatre all restored and better than new. It was an amazing experience. Although it was Black and White,the picture was sharp and not a scratch or blemish. I found details I never noticed in the DVD’s I own. When Bogey was on screen the picture was sharp,but when Ingrid was on screen she was soft and slightly out of focus. This is still today my all time favorite film.

Siskel and Ebert (film critics) on their program discussed whether black and white or color had better movies. They agreed that B&W had by far the best dramatic performances. I seldom agreed with them, but in this instance they were right.

Talking about the score, no one ever mentions the dance tune playing in the opening of the Parisian flashback. It is a popular tune of the day entitled 'Perfidia', an Italian word for deceit. This is the first signal that Ilsa is not telling the whole truth.

"I hear those two German couriers were carrying letters of transit." "Oh, uh, I've heard that rumor, too." I've always thought "I've heard that rumor, too" is as quotable a line as any in Casablanca.

I had the whole documentary on VHS, its title is "You Must Remember This" :)
I hate to say it, but the opening idea, that it's love lost and redeemed isn't quite it. while that's a huge part, it is also the theme that some things are more important than three mixed up little people. and understanding that. The scene where they sing Marseilles sets that, victor tells the band to play, but they don't until Rick gives them the nod, Rick, famous for staying out, has taken a side.the scene is even more powerful if you know that except for the principal 4 characters, everyone in the bar was a real refugee.

Just to clarify, the man was talking about the song "As Time goes by" which came out in 1931 then used very successfully in the movie and became a legendary hit song.

People talk about how wonderfully written the script is....but there are so many plot holes: 1. Why does Rick accept those letters of transit as a favor when he "never sticks his neck out for anybody"? Being caught with them would get Rick executed. 2. Why is Rick pining away for Ingrid Berman when there's a much hotter French barfly waiting in the wings? 3. Why doesn't Rick just give cash to that desperate couple instead of making his casino look crooked? So many plot holes...so little time.
@paulj1810 жыл бұрын
Casablanca was obviously NOT made in a week. The script was still being written during production. I checked up and found that production started on May 25th, 1942 and filming finished on August 3.
@keithmoon88387 жыл бұрын
