It’s a difficult concept to comprehend for certain people. I get it. However, ethnicity and nationality are not necessarily the same thing. Yes. He is half Japanese and half Beninese, however, he is a Japanese citizen(nationality), therefore, he is Japanese. Also he would like to represent Japan and that’s all the matters here. An ethnically Chinese person can represent Brazil in the Olympic Games for example. It’s the same concept :)
