The Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a large cat of the subfamily Felinae that occurs in Southern, North, and East Africa, and a few localities in Iran.
The species is IUCN Red Listed as vulnerable. By 2016, the global cheetah population has been estimated at approximately 7,100 individuals in the wild.
The only extant member of the genus Acinonyx, It is the fastest land animal, estimated to be capable of running at 80 to 128 km/h (50 to 80 mph).
In 2017, the Cat Classification Task Force of the Cat Specialist Group revised felid taxonomy and now recognizes the Southern and Eastern African cheetah populations as A. j. jubatus.

Also Known as Namibian cheetah
Status: Threatened (Vulnerable)
2- Asiatic Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus venaticus)
Also Known as Iranian cheetah
Status: Critically Endangered.
3- Northeast African Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus soemmeringii)
Status: Critically Endangered.
4- Northwest African Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus hecki)
Status: Critically Endangered.

Interesting video about cheetahs,, but what I was most interested in discovering was that in what nation or nations the asiatic cheetah resided. I realize that China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Philippines, India, Afghanistan, Russia, et cetera aren't the only Asian nations. In that brief map about where Asian cheetahs reside, it looked as if it was somewhere just east of Saudi Arabia also an Asian nation like possibly Iran (Persia) &/or Afghanistan.

@@indyreno2933 There have been genetic studies, which show south east african cheetahs and Indian cheetahs are genetically very similar. Their point of divergence is about 32000 years. Which is not enough time to create seperate species. It takes millions of years to do that.

Actually, Acinonyx jubatus is an exclusively African species, which is why the correct english name of Acinonyx jubatus is "african cheetah" because the word "cheetah" more correctly refers to the genus Acinonyx as a whole as the asiatic cheetah is a separate species scientifically named Acinonyx venaticus and the †Giant Cheetah (Acinonyx pardinensis), †Linxia Cheetah (Acinonyx kurteni), †Geraad's Cheetah (Acinonyx aicha), and †Thenius's Cheetah (Acinonyx intermedius) are technically cheetahs, african cheetahs and asiatic cheetahs are separate species, just like chinese raccoon dogs and japanese raccoon dogs are separate species, with the scientific name of the chinese raccoon dog of mainland Asia being Nyctereutes procyonoides and the scientific name of the japanese raccoon dog of Japan is Nyctereutes viverrinus.

I really get upset when these so called environmental groups focus on saving what is a a result of breeding bottlenecks - the so called king cheetah, rather than breed back variety and grnetic diversity back into the family. All in the name of money. Not conservation. Should not focus on presrving the result of a breeding bottleneck. Rather focus on diversity. Cheeyah is already vulnerable from a previousnear ectinction event

Lol cheetahs are not considered big cats. Big cats are good at wrestling cheetahs are great hunters but bad at wrestling they are designed to run very fast and hunt not fight so much lol that's why lions steal there food the cheetah runs because it knows its no match for a lion
