I remember my mom telling me that they used to use ashes to clean pots and pans that were used over an open fire here in Greece. A thing I noticed is that you hang wet towels on the side of your cabinets to dry. I used to do this and it destroyed my cabinet. I would keep them away from wood and walls. I can't believe how your home has been transformed in such a short time! Teamwork really pays off. You should be very proud of your beautiful family.

Hello Noemi, ashes are used in villages of Turkey as cleaner on copper or metal large boilers in which jams, tomato or pepper pastes etc are cooked on direct fire. The outer side of boilers are scrubbed with the ashes accumulated underneath. In the past, same ashes were mixed with water and left aside overnight. Ashes would sink and the blurred water on the surface was used to scrub white clothes. clothes would come out clean and white like brand new. the above mentioned blurred water was also used in pumpkin jam making process. it was added in a certain amount to the jam mixture with pumpkin chunk pieces in order to make those pieces stay stiff.

Cleaning with ashes reminded me of my grandma's days. Just back 50 years ago in India utensils were cleaned by the ashes only and not by these harsh chemicals. Ashes were gathered from burning coal or wood for making hot water for bathing. Good to know that you have tried it on shower also.

I had heard of using the ashes to clean the fireplace doors, but forgot as we haven't had one for so long. Thank you for the reminder. I will do this to clean ours. And WOW what a difference on the shower doors!!!! I was just thinking it reminded me of the scrubbing power of baking soda when you showed mixing them for cleaner. haha!

I used to know someone who kept a big jar next to her fireplace for the cooled ashes! She used them on glass, hard water stains, anything else with stuck on spots. Such an eco friendly trick!

Last tip with ashes, put it in water and let it sit for 1to 2weeks,stir every one day after that stir and use that liquid for laundry, you will be amazed, you can use it too for glass cups and plate by adding small organic dish soap.

Thank you for the sock tip! My husband is always complaining the way I fold his socks is stretching them out, I will swap to this! I cannot wait to see your greenhouse up and going 🌱

Hi Noemi! Thanks for very inspiring video! But pleeease, dont use carton box or a plastic bag when you clean a fireplace! Ash can stay hot all over the night and can cause a problem. Use a big metal can or something like.

Hallo or Hej 😊! Ur excitement about the use of ash for cleaning was sweet. In India, ash has been used for eons to clean. You could use it on Brass, Copper, stainless steel.. coconut ash has been used to even brush your teeth. Dint realise though that it would clean up the fireplace so well. Thanks for sharing.

I watched a recent You Tube episode by Isabel Paige who made a type of natural lye soap with the ashes from her fireplace-brilliant!

Your authenticity is so refreshing, and I'm totally going to try your sock folding method. Using ash for scouring powder makes so much sense considering ash and lye are components of soap making. But seeing it at work on your glass fireplace and shower was eye-opening. Thanks for sharing that method.

Hello Neomi!!! I am from south Europe (North Macedonia - country near Greece border). My grandmother, also used a water by ashes to prepare dry cookies for Christmas. I remember, they were so soft and delicious. Best regards!!!
