We have a very interesting talk with Garth Powell about digital cables. We talk about the coaxial standard, BNC connectors, rca, impedance issues and a lot of other stuff! (Yes, network cables are also a topic!).

Thank you very guys for a wonderful discussion. I've changed my cables multiple times and the more cables I shield, the quieter my room becomes. The last group of cables l shielded were my HDMIs and lo and behold the room became slightly quieter yet again. I've now managed to get my noise floor so low that there are occasions I'm unable to tell whether my system is switched off or it's actually switched on but the system happened to be on pause! The startling thing about it, not only have I got 9 channels, 7 of them are externally amplified.

Loved this Jaap! Great stuff. But now I'm wondering why USB wasn't mentioned? Is it that bad? RCA vs spdif, is spdif the preferred digital cable over RCA?
@TheAlphaAudio Жыл бұрын
This was about coaxial cables. The topology, impedance and connectors. USB is totally different.

Nope, I love my Cardas Parsec digital 75 ohm RCA that i use as interconnects from DAC to preamp to amp. source=Apple Music lossless I also further reduce noise by 1) upgrade my Eversolo DMP-A6 streamer's power supply to a LPS 2) feed the power with iFi SilentPower Supanova active noise cancelling for my DAC and amp.

Veeeeery interesting interview! It's zeros and ones, and some jitter, as he confirmed openly. But followed by "If that's your only critera..." starting 12:44 I would have liked to hear about other criteria then. Provided e/g...just some. Maybe still criteria like looks, feel, packaging, prestige, belief?
@jmtennapel Жыл бұрын
What about noise, colouration, evenness across the frequency range and any other audio related criterium? That’s what Garth means: there’s more than one thing to consider and evaluate when assessing the effect of a cable. Don’t focus on one thing in particular at the cost of anything else, because you will hear it.

Thanks for the video. Why your digital coax cables are actually 50 ohm cables (coax carbon/Coffee cables ) ? I want to connect a streamer to an external DAC ... Is a 75 Ohms not better ?
@TheAlphaAudio Жыл бұрын
Yes. It should be. But it is impossible with rca plugs. If you have bnc than that is the way to go.
@mrronenza Жыл бұрын
@@TheAlphaAudio Thank you. My pre amp doesn’t have bnc input.
@TheAlphaAudio Жыл бұрын
@@mrronenza in that case, keep with a high quality rca. It is fine most of the time.
@VanillaIceCoffee Жыл бұрын
50 or 75 ohm is the load, some BNC connectors have a small dielectric plastic ring (easier to identify them) so you know what the load of the device is. If you are running short cables, it's not gonna make any difference. short or long, always use good quality cables and connectors, don't spend more than $50 on a cable anyways

Digital, by it's very nature, delivers data with 100% fidelity in the presence of noise, etc. Of course catastrophic failures are very noticeable. So ....the difference between digital cables is how they behave as antennas or filters ...to let RF noise into the small signal analog process

So his criteria is when nine out of ten "audiophiles" can hear a difference. Not the measurements that show no difference? And yes, removing all bias with an ABX blind test is just a waste of time. Such a silly point of view but necessary to stay in business.

@@benedykt123313 what you say is all assertion attacking the person which is the lowest form of (lack of) logic. Like most people you have formed your prejudices and assumptions on emotional grounds. Here is just one fact to counter your argument that I pay heaps for thing that don’t work because i am taken in by the snake oil salesman and the marketing hubris. I hav tried many power cables and all make a sometimes huge audible difference to the sound and that includes eyewateringly expensive cables from Nordost which I could have purchased from the local importer at a much better price. But an audible difference from an expensive cable is not a priori an improvement. My choice for year has been the basic Naim audio cables that came with Naim gear in the 2000s and which I purchased a fair few of for $20 each, not the ones selling for $hundreds or thousands. You are not god but arrogantly write as if you are and that you think you know and understand everything and cannot poosibly be wrong while those who think and have experiences differently to you definitely are weong which is sadly a common problem whether on the modern woke or maga fascist thought police
