That is true. Sadly, critics would criticize the movie for its dark themes, resulting in Don Bluth doing Rock-A-Doodle, which went through post-production to make it more of a kid-friendly film, and the sequel would be made with Don't involvement while toning down the darkness and making it more like a film Disney would make.

He'd go outside and when I'd come home late at night from work, whenever the door would open he'd come out a bush and make his way inside. When I'd be outta town my mom would let him in my room, and he'd wait forever and sleep on my bed. One day he didn't come home for a few days and one morning, my mom came to my room and told me that Cujo had been poisoned and was in the dumpster. In a groggy state I was in such sadness that, I couldn't even get up to see him and say goodbye. Easily one of the biggest regrets I have in life.... Two Bible Verses come to mind in this scene. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. -John 15:13 I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, And like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you." -Isaiah 44:22 Charlie gave his own life to save Anne-Marie's and in doing so, was redeemed from hell. A movie from your childhood hits you differently the older you get and there are so many things sad and bittersweet about this ending. Mainly Judith Barsi and hearing the emotion in Burt Reynolds voice as he delivers his lines. It's an overall emotional ending. Charlie sacraficing himself, having one last conversation with Anne-Marie about "goodbyes," and being welcomed Home. One thing, even as a kid, that I found sad was that Itchy never got to say goodbye to Charlie. I know they were reunited in the sequel, but still... This movie is very sentimental to me, because I remember it was a favorite of my grandmother's. She was a pretty devout Christian and probably the sweetest person you could have ever met. I have vivid memories of watching this movie with her, my brothers, and my cousins almost anytime we visited. Although she's been gone for over 20 years, this movie always makes me think of her. She passed away when I was barely 8 years old. Wish I could have known her longer.

I remember watching the TV series of All Dogs Go to Heaven when I was kid on Saturday afternoons. I think there were also Sunday afternoon spots of the show too. But I didn't know that it had originated from the movie until only recently. Which is saying a lot and I'm 28! Anyway, learning of the movie plot and circumstances of this last scene made me tear up and really pulled on my heart strings. Knowing that it was Judith Barsi's final role before her tragic death is very hard to bear in knowing. I can definitely hear how Burt Reynolds had a difficult time recording this last scene of the film knowing that she had been murdered prior to this part. As someone who experienced losing my special Aussie dog Fiji last late October in a tragic hit-and-run accident, I can really feel the emotions even more. Like Charlie said to Itchy, "I'm sorry, I'm so very sorry'' is what I feel even now knowing that my special Fiji has been gone for almost 8 months. I had three other family members pass away in the past year--a nephew, an older sister and an aunt. But losing my Fiji hit me the hardest. All four members died between February 2023-February 2024. What are the odds of the timeline? I'm so sorry Fiji for not doing more to protect you. I'm sorry I got caught up with running back and forth to work and school and not taking more time to spend with you. I know we'll meet again at the Rainbow Bridge someday. Writing this comment and watching this final scene makes me very emotional. Rest easy, my baby wolfy Fiji (August 15, 2021-October 29, 2023). Rest in heavenly peace, Judith Barsi, Burt Reynolds and Dom Deluise.

Burt didnt only made it feel realistic, it WAS realistic because he really had to hold his tears back together with Judith because he knew she didnt want to go back home to her abusive, alcoholic, jealous rotten father again. Until it was to late..........That moment felt like Burt was the better caring father Judith never had.

Yes but her mother should have protected her more same with child services she shouldnt have went back to their house. Maria Judith's mother wanted to keep the house and belongings and wasn't thinking of judith first she should have and judith would have survived. It just doesn't make sense why Joseph barsi didn't get arrested before things went to far.

It's been ages since I've seen this movie! I loved watching this movie when I was a little kid, but I haven't seen it since like 4th grade because of how sad it is. It became even more tragic as an adult after learning how Judith Barsi, the voice of Anne Marie, and her mother were murdered in real life. Made me not want to watch it ever again 😥 not after what happened to that girl. Perhaps maybe someday I might be able to muster up the courage to watch it again. For old time's sake, for Judi and Burt 🙏

This scene and the whole movie hits so hard as someone who lost my precious dogs in a really cruel and horrible way. I lost my girl (Border Collie, 12 years old) around 4 years ago, she did suffer a lot before she died, it was late at night and she cought blood and whimpered a lot. I was a child back then and it was so terrible, it was pure nightmare. Then I lost my precious boy around 4 months ago who was her best friend and after her death my best friend. We spend a lot of time together after she died and he is a german quail dog. He was as lovely as she was and he died almost the same way in a horrible suffer and I couldn't do anything against it, this time the vet could arrive at least and end his suffer about after over half an hour. With him I could at least hold him in my arms until his soul left his body which I couldn't with my girl and I suffer still from that.
