Giannis being one of the ones who are part of the old is the reference to analyst and fans in general who believe Giannis is old school and will stay with his team and try win a chip there. And the Bucks were chosen, in my opinion, because they had the league's best defense and defenders yet give up a lot of threes. A nod to the era where 3s weren't common and defense was a huge priority.

Hand checking was outlawed in the late 1970s. Perhaps it was a point of emphasis to call it more often in 2004.

Actually, I think, in the 70s they changed the rules so it was more restricted, and in 2004 they banished handchecking entirely, but I do remember some players complaining about how hard it was to score in the early 2000s, because of the combination of mild handchecking and zone defense.

You missed the three claw marks on Giannis' helmet - this is a reference to the Toronto Raptors logo (3 claw marks on a basketball) who defeated Giannis' Milwaukee Bucks 4-2 in the 2019 NBA Playoffs, sending the Raptors to their first NBA Finals.

I expected it to either be Ray Allen, who shot the perfect 3 to tie game 6 of the 2013 finals which is often credited as the shot that saved Lebron’s legacy to his detractors, or Isiah Thomas, who met the criteria to be selected for the Dream Team but wasn’t.

Hand checking was never actually allowed in the nba. It was just better enforced in 2004. If you watch old games in 90’s you will see many hand checking calls.
