ive always imagined that Earth would play the planetary role Afghanistan or vietnam does on earth. A technologically inferior civilization that no galactic federation can pacify because of unconventional guerilla tactics and home advantage. Maybe its just fantasy but i feel that humans have a certain something that means we will fight even when it defies logic and this may be lacking in our alien enemies

Soviet ending: After successfully defeating the Mujahidden in the war, the USSR annexs Afghanistan and forms the Afghan SSR. however, resistance is not yet crushed.

The Ultimate bad ending map here correspond to the range of different ethnic groups in Afghanistan. Blue is Tajik, green is Pashto, red is Hazara, brown is Baloch, purple is Turkmen, yellow is Uzbek, and pink is Dari.

@@wpw8570 there would be overlap along the borders of these regions especially in the northwest and smaller groups like nuristanis are missing. Afghanistan is not as homogeneous clear cut as European states but they have pretty good correspondence to the ethnic regions. It’s how I would draw the borders if the major ethnic groups separated to become their own countries.

That's actually the de facto anthem of the Taliban. They also used it during the first time they had taken the Afghanistan before the Islamic Republic came to be, it's just being reused again.

but only gandhar province was under muryan rule and even then Gandhar is located in present Pakistan so it wouldnt make sense as Pakistan would be under Muryan empire

@Taiki hiko The only thing I'm upset about is that we wasted so much time and resources over there and lost so many US service members for nothing just because Bush wanted to make his papa proud by staging 9/11. And let's not forget all the Civilians we killed over there to top it off with that drone strike Biden(the guy who literally screwed up entire the evacuation to begin with) allowed that only killed Civilians and not the Isis target. Afghanistan really is the grave yard of empires. I hope the talliban government reforms over time, but I doubt it. America isn't the world's police and we shouldn't try to force our way of life on anybody. PS I don't really trust any media outlets so...yeah. Good day to you.

Fun fact: there is more than 10 cities in Afghanistan called “Alexander” and you can actually find one of Alexander the greats homes that was built in 330 BC in Afghanistan. It’s near a market place if I remember correctly.

Actually, the anthem for the bad ending for Afghanistan is actually the de facto anthem of the current Taliban regime. The anthem (which is actually a "nasheed") was first played on Afghan Radios during the previous Taliban Afghanistan from 1992-2001. The "Nasheed" is about Afghanistan defeating the British as well as the Soviet Invasion of Aghanistan explaining Afghanistan as a "Graveyards of Empires".

Pragmatic best ending: Amin never assassinates Taraki, the USSR never feels pressured to invade, and the US never feels the need to fund Mujahideen as part of a Cold War effort. Afghanistan is forcibly secularized, and the hardline religious extremists are ultimately defeated, although still persistent. Although ruled by a harsh hand, the government isn't riddled with corruption, and the Opium trade is severely targeted, limiting the mass rise in heroin use over the 1980s. Without the war, the USSR is in better health, however still succumbs to pressure, and crumbles in the late 1990s. Without it's key ally and aid supplier, the Afghan Communist party loses power, and although civil strife ensues, the islamists are no position to takeover as easily as they did before. Without the Taliban to shelter him, Osama Bin Laden is quickly handed over by neighbouring Pakistan in the wake of 9/11, and the US is not dragged into Afghanistan. Afghanistan remains poor and strife ridden, however female rights are entrenched, political Islam is confined to the provinces, and the country escapes foreign occupation. Afghanistan is largely ignored, and barely makes the news.
