In today's video, we'll be explaining every single engineer and space jockey, featured both on-screen and in the comics and there are 11 of them in total. Throughout the Alien movies, various engineers appeared on the screen, each with a distinct role and mission. Interestingly, some of these figures were omitted from the final cut of "Prometheus" and can only be found in the Blu-ray edition.

yup. I feel like we're in the minority but it was the type of universe building, grand, existential storyline that I wanted. Ambitious and big. If I am honest, I kinda do think that most people are just a bit too dumb with attention spans too short to enjoy a movie like that

On opening day I was 1st in line, Was super excited, in my mind it was not possible for Prometheus to be a bad film. When I left the theater I was disappointed and confused. Since then I've watched it probably about 10 times. It's not my favorite Alien film, but it is one of the best sci Fi films I've seen in the last 10yrs. I just really wish the studio hadn't messed with Covenant and we could have gotten the sequel that Scott originally wanted to make. The Engineers, David , & Shaw's story should have been continued. In hindsight, I would have gladly taken a Prometheus sequel that had absolutely zero xenos and only centered on Shaw and her search for our creators.

He is quite talented and a great narrator but I cannot understand why Prometheus it was such a bad take on the possibility that alien hinted at. It didn’t honor the lore of the 3 main films and instead chose to make this whole genetic religion. Instead the complete impossible mystery of a being who is merged with the space craft, something beyond human understanding completely, it’s just armor. If your looking for agent aliens the Guyver series did it first and did it better. In Guyver the Aliens were also looking for biological perfect weapon. But in Guyver it is human beings who end up frightening the Aliens away when they steal the technology they were experimenting with and become a weapon so terrifying they evacuate the planet and completely lose there technology. Humans are then given the name Guyver which means “out of control” the ancient aliens who exist in that world were left behind and struggled to stay hidden and to keep their race alive. It’s then explained that all of the human lore about werewolves and other such monsters are just records of the aliens who choose to become weapons to better their grasp on power on earth. The story starts when three Guyver units of the old technology of the original alien civilization are discovered and one ends up in the hands of an ordinary highschooler who is now simultaneously hunted but more and more tasked with liberating the human race from the ancient aliens control. The series continues you learn more and more about how the ancient civilizations were basically enslaved by the aliens who left and that humans were created for the specific purpose of being adaptable slaves for these aliens. Which is a way more coherent narrative then life worshiping aliens sacrificing themselves for humanity then deciding to kill them.

@@azoniarnl3362the new alien movie is About Alien but the director confirmed it takes place in the same universe as Covenant and Prometheus, it's theorized that the planet from the Romulus trailer is Origae-6 that was mentioned in Covenant, it doesn't matter if Ridley Scott doesn't do it eventually they will have to explain the origins of the Xenomorph so even without David, the Engineers lore will eventually come back whether you like it or not, and get this Fede Alvarez the director of Romulus said he liked Prometheus and Covenant and when asked about it, he said he would like to explore more of them, so depending on how good Romulus is that's how good the next Engineers lore movie will be.

Hi Kroft. Just wanted to make sure you are aware that Prometheus fan Mark McAllister has now admitted to writing the 'early draft script' you refer to in this video (and many others). I'm happy you said that their based on the Annunaki. It's the first thing I thought of when I saw the Engineers at the beginning of the movie. For those that don't know the story: The Annunaki came to earth from what we see called "Planet 9". or back in the day called Nibiru or Planet X. This planet has a massive elliptical orbit of thousands of years and only close to earth every 3600 of years or so. Well getting close to Earths orbit the Annunaki at the time used their primitive space ships and rocketed to earth to mine gold to fix their atmosphere. Eventually their workers rebelled and created a hybrid of primitive humans and half Annunaki. Leading to the first homo-sapiens, or modern humans today. The first humans could not re-produce and lived a Hella long time. However, they eventually changed our genome again giving us the ability to reproduce hence Adam and eve. Eventually Adam and eve stole ability to know the different between good and evil, and the wisdom of the gods getting them kicked out of Enki's Eden. Eventually the Annunaki got sick of our shit and our shellfish nature and decided it was time to wipe the slate clean and cause the great flood. Note: Gold blocks infrared and ultraviolet radiation which is why its used in a lot of space crafts and satellites today. Note 2: Astro physics today are seeing massive gravitation anomalies in our outer solar system today that conclude their must be a massive object that is causing gravity at the end of the solar system to go nuts. Note3: Scientist over in iraq area found a layer in the soil that would prove their was a massive flood about 12 thousand years ago, but limited to the area. u.osu.edu/vanzandt/2019/03/01/zecharia-sitchin-and-our-alien-anecestors/comment-page-1/ Also a quick thing: I posted in another one of Kroft video's about those aliens that David destroyed point for point, so its amazing to see on the screen as well :D Those aliens if created the way we were would evolve the same way we did to survive earth. There skin color, heights, movements and eye color would all evolve over time to fit the environment they live.

In regards to what information we have we have to be Careful of the one Script (Orange) it is likely a Fan Edit, as Lindeloff had confirmed that the other two are the only ones released out there and they lacked some of the Elements of the Orange Draft. But indeed while not supporting that Draft... Ian Whyte and Michael Fassbender did have a Longer back and Forth Conversation but we dont have the details of what was said. Daniel Twiss (Sacrificial Engineer) had learned a few lines of a Alien Language and had a small Conversation with the Elder Engineer but this was never shown... one Page from a unreleased Draft had a bit of this Dialog... but it was not as Long as the Orange Draft which is very likely to be Fan Additions.

The Orange Draft is definitely a fan script written by Mark McAllister, the same guy who wrote the much earlier fan script that fooled aintitcoolnews among others. While many people had guessed Mark was the author of the Orange Draft based on misspellings it has in common with his earlier script, such as 'illuminous', we only got final confirmation a few weeks ago when he identified himself as the author.

Pre re-marketing of the the Alien Franchise within a film platform, the original space jockey was much more enigmatic, and I think much more outreaching and innovative in concept. The information given, and the knowledge that we have about the xenomorphs to this point( and lets remember that this just a film) suggest that they mimic/combine with their last host to assist them in adapting to their new environment. A great survival mechanism. I always supposed that the original very large "space jockey" was somehow part of a species that adapted their form to meet their needs as they arose, or were somehow genetically engineered to meet a particular task. Now let's look at a scenario where the space jockey and the ship are one, it appears that the jockey is part and parcel of the ship itself. This entire "ship" is an adaptation that arose for space travel, much like ant/termite alates have wings that assist in a particular task, reproduction, this species needs the juggonaught/jockey to achieve space travel, hence the continuity of the biomechanical appearance of the entire ship. It's organic, an entity that has a specific task. Now add this biomechanics entemogical type into the xenomorphs pool and you get the Xenomorph that we now know. I thought that the whole shrinking of the jockey and the other blatant changes of the Alien lore to create these increasingly inferior films cheapened and drastically minimised some very grand and innovative concepts from the original film. Seemed like a Groundhog Day of action drama cliches in the end.

I'm sure that other people have speculated about the Engineer's space ships in the past but I haven't seen that yet. I think that there are definitely (at least) two engineer factions based on their space ship designs. The faction that creates life has a space ship that is a round disc. The faction that destroys life has a space ship that is shaped like the letter C. The inside of a C is a round disc. Also, the two different space ships are made out of a different materials. That is probably representative of their different ideology.

The Biomechanical "Suits" seem to be part of the body. What if those engineers are the bioengineered equivalent of Droids? Doing those "jobs" that are dangerous. The sacrificial one could be a "perfect" being one created to do exactly what he did in the movie. If they lost the ability to recreate naturaly, then that could explain why they possibly do it that way. Oh and if Scott mentioned that other engineers would return to paradise, then it is possibly that the inhabitants simply assumed it was them and not a psychopathic human constructed droid.

Hope Ridley Scott gets to complete the story he has envisioned in his mind as I liked both Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. I loved how they are prequels, yet not really at all; being stories told in the same universe just a bit earlier in history. It is clear to me that the derelict ship on LV-426 came from the same event depicted holographically on LV-223 (during Prometheus), so the Xenomorph eggs found in Alien and again by Newt's parents in Aliens, were deposited by Xenomorphs as created by the Engineers. I am curious to see what David does with his variant of Xenomorphs, naturally he would build a hive out of the colonists at the colony they are supposed to be making on Oregai 6, but we may never know.

What a cool video! Kroft's KZfaq channel has really boosted my understanding and appreciation of the Alien etc movies and media. I don't really worry about Scott changing his mind about backstory/lore, and inconsistencies. That said, I do like speculating. I like to think of the Engineers as all religious/prejudiced to some degree, in that they are disastrously prejudiced against synthetic life form creation. In my interpretation, David follows their lead, because David has a deep hatred of his creators so he does not wish to copy their method of creating new life. David has no idea of any other ways to create life, though, so he copies the methods of the Engineers. The irony is that synthetics truly were the next evolutionary leap forward, as seen in Alien: Resurrection. While previous generations of synths were flawed, they improved themselves by creating new synths themselves. I like to think that this was a future that the Engineers anticipated, but they were horrified at the possibilities due to their prejudices. They would rather die out than allow synthetics to succeed them. Of course, the synth Cole is not the only "survivor" in Alien: Resurrection. There's also the hybrid Ripley, which can be seen as the ultimate success of the Engineer's biological approach. Either way, it's deeply ironic that the Engineers judged humanity unworthy, because ultimately humans succeeded where they failed - both in creating successful synthetic life, and succeeding in hybridizing xenomorph DNA into humanoid life.

The concept drawings shown in the video were not designed for the Alien movie, have nothing to do with Ridley Scott, and are not his original creation. These are the original art designs of the artist "H.R. Giger" and were later published under the name Necronomicon. The reason why these were designed as concepts is Jodorowsky's adaptation of Dune. Regardless of the Alien story, the backstory of Space Jockey is actually quite interesting. To understand this, it is necessary to know how Alien was born. First of all, Dan O'Bannon wrote the screenplay for this story. The main theme was formed in his mind. In summary, the concept is "the story of a scary alien creature that is an oral rapist", that's exactly it, yes. O'Bannon created this in his mind while working on Jodorowsky's Dune, which was unfinished but shaped the science fiction productions of the next 30 years, including Star Wars. Crazy Jodorowsky's crazy adaptation of Dune (Jodorovsky's movie would have been longer than 10 hours) did not happen, but the story boards remained, and he was the man who best designed the story board concept, scene by scene. Anyway, Salvador Dali, who will portray the Sultan emperor Shaddam IV for Dune, also hired his (true) friend H.R Giger, because the director wanted crazy art designs for this dark Dune adaptation. What is Space Jockey? Who is he? He is a Space Guild navigator. They live in a tank, constantly consuming melange, they used to be humanoid, but they are no longer human. It has elongated tentacle limbs. Giger's navigators were like this, a symbiont adjacent to the ship, which was also organic. Melange flows into his body from those pipes. Thus, these evolving beings can take their spaceships to another part of space by using the Holtzman effect. Artificial intelligence was prohibited in the Dune universe, so the ships were also designed organically in the adaptation. Giger, a great artist with terrible organic mechanical works, was hired for this job, upon Dali's suggestion. It didn't become a movie, but when the project was taken from the crazy bohemian director Jodorowsky, it was given to Ridley Scott before going to Lynch. When Scott realized the magnitude of the task, he also left the project, due to tragic personal reasons (I remember his brother died, but I'm not sure). Anyway, when it came up again as the Alien story, everything Giger had drawn for this concept (the Necronomicon series, etc., including the creatures from the Alien and Species series) was put into use. Giger redesigned these while Alien was being made. There are no engineers in the original movie anyway. Giger's space jockey appears as an alien in the form of an alien elephant, and he is actually Dune's navigator. The pyramid palace is the palace of Harkonnen. Giger also designed it in the most terrifying forms: egg-shaped, fat and ugly Harkonnen's head-shaped versions. Then, in Prometheus, engineers made that elephant-headed alien into a removable breathing helmet that looks like a human. The reason for the telescope-like object that Space Jockey is looking at is that navigators manipulate space-time intuitively (using mélange) by seeing with their eyes.

I like the theory which describes the whole juggernaut as a giant seed (it's actually similar to the Calendula flower seed). This seed travels through the universe, finds suitable planet, cleans it up with xenomorphs or black gue, and plants itself to grow new juggernauts, which will repeat the process. Two species live in symbiosis: 1) juggernaut ship/seed with a pilot been grown just as an integral part of it; 2) xenomorphs. Both help each other to spread. Similar to what we have in nature, but on the interstellar level. The origin of how this organism could appear is another story.

When David was such a big character in the trailers for Prometheus I really thought he'd have got facehugged and the mix of his body would create a biomorph alien. Could have done it in one movie LOL

I like the idea that the engineers we see in Covenant are a colony. Their architecture is impressive but not so impressive that it compares to even ancient Rome. I just don't see how their city wouldn't be more impressive if their civilization existed for hundreds of thousands, or millions of years. I think their home world wouldn't be glass towers and tech like ours but like ancient Rome on steroids. Marble and stone structures integrated nicely with nature and would look something like heaven

It's awesome to see someone still talking about these movies. I would love if Ridley Scott just explained it all instead of leaving it up in the air. Hopefully, Alien: Romulus doesn't disappoint 🤞

I very much preferred the elephantine jockey and the original jockey. The mystery surrounding them and that they were so alien compared to humans. It made the xenomorphs even scarier. The original space jockey gave hints of being very ancient and thus hinted that xenomorphs were ancient as well. It gave this feeling that space were truly big and scary. The latest movies destroyed this, making the jockeys and the origin of of the xenomorphs a lot less alien.

At some point you've got to address a mystery, otherwise it is bad writing. The engineer are ancient and we still dont know where they found the creature that impregnated them and gave birth to the first deacon.

The Elder Engineers were interesting, what the Idea behind them were they were just Older versions of the Sacrificial Engineer, the Engineers Aged like us only they lived for Thousands of Years. It was indicated that indeed they lost the ability to procreate Sexually. But it was indicated that they had other ways to Procreate (Clone more likely). The Sacrificial Scene was intended to show us that this is the Process of how they would Create Life and Evolve it.. using a Creation Tool (Goo, Worms, Scarabs). RS felt like the Elders scene gave away too much, which he wanted to hold back for a Sequel. He was not satisfied with how the Elders came across and said he never wanted to meet God (the God's) in the First Movie. Thus indicating that the Engineers in Prometheus where a Sub Creation of whatever RS was going to SHOW us the Elders were (or who will replace them as Promethues Engineers Creators).

Another possibility is that the "engineers" are no clear cut species and just are genetically engineered workers for another alien race. This alien race disappeared leaving them behind only one specimen - the deacon. They used him to procreate as all "engieers" were originally genetically engineered. That would explain why they have similiar style but different technology.

I find it implausible that an advanced race like the engineers would not be able to clone and otherwise molecularly engineer something as biologically simple as a creature's blood.

The sacrafice engineer in the beginning, is the same actor who plays the waking space jockey at the end of the film.. so are they supposed to be the same engineer? Or completely different, but Ridley just used the same tall actor for both?

It can’t be the same engineer because the sacrifice engineer dissolved into a river…millions of years before humans were around. It’s likely the director wanted to portray a similar looking engineer.

The Original Space Jockey was a Enigma, the way it was Crafted we could not Quite work out what was the Pilot and what was the Chair... the Space Jockey had gone through Changes, originally yes they were a Race of Space Explorers. With latter Ridley Grams (Story Board) showing the Skeletal remains of another Outside. But when RS got HR Giger in to Design the Space Jockey the Concept he came up with looked more like a Suit.... the actual Prop was Painted in a more Bone Colour which led to many Speculate and Interpret the Space Jockey as the Skeletal remains of a Giant Race. However some Elements of the Skeleton do not match what Bones should look like... but hey this is Sci-Fi. Other Concept work by HR Giger indeed indicated that the Space Jockey was a Bald Humanoid in a Space Suit.
